Mark Tuttle - Biography
I was born 1963 in Santa Barbara / California
and have been living in Austria for the last
7 years. I am father of two sons, 8 and 9 years.
I started painting seriously 2007,
after a couple years of painting with my boys.
I have always made things, there is a deep satisfaction in creating
something, and even better when it is totally unique. This is what
motivates me to paint, and to be an entrepreneur in business.
The “Emancipation” series is driven by contemplations on nature,
materialism, consumerism, happiness and human nature, with Mahler
symphonies providing the working sound track.
My abstracts allow people find a relevant reflection of what is going on in
their minds, and emotions. The painting is a pattern to help release
these things…
I do very little planning except for choosing 2 or 3 colors to start with and
the painting flows from there….. In the current works, I used
predominantly acrylics on canvas, the colors mix well for me, and the
spatula is favored over the brush. This also stimulates a wide variety of
painting styles, as you can see from the “Emancipation” expedition.
I plan to use larger formats and wider variety of materials for my next
series… everything is leaning and evolving….
I would like to thank several key artists that provided me guidance, critique
and motivation. Mike Loffler, Christian Qualtinger, Elisabeth Alves,
Dave Dahl, Michael Buergermeister and James Carnahan.
.... And the unknown charachature artist who did the above sketch of me 10 years
ago, but whos name is long forgotten....

Ich bin 1963 in Santa Barbara /
Kalifornien geboren und lebe nun
schon seit 7 Jahren in Österreich.
Meine zwei Söhne sind 8 und
9 Jahre alt. Nachdem ich mit meinen
Kindern sehr früh angefangen habe zu
Malen, kam für mich die Inspiration und Lust,
mehr daraus zu machen, so entstand mein
persönlicher Zugang zur Malerei.
Ich habe immer schon gerne Dinge “gemacht”. Etwas zu kreieren,
erfüllt mich tief, am meisten, wenn es etwas Einzigartiges ist.
Die „emancipation“-Serie entstand aus Beobachtungen der Natur, des
Materialismus, von Konsumation, Glück und menschlicher Natur –
mit Mahler-Symphonien, als Soundtrack beim Malen.
Meine abstrakten Bilder erlauben dem Betrachter eine tiefe Reflexion
ihrer Gedanken und Gefühle. Das Gemälde ist ein Muster, um diese
Dinge zu befreien.
Beim Malen plane ich sehr wenig vor, außer 2-3 Farben auszuwählen,
mit denen ich anfange – und das Bild beginnt „herauszufließen“ ...
Für die aktuellen Arbeiten verwendete ich vorwiegend Acryl auf
Leinwand, die Farben kommen mir bei den Mischungen entgegen,
gerne arbeite ich auch mit Spachtel.
Für meine nächsten Serien plane ich, größere Formate und mehrere
verschiedene Materialien zu verwenden ... alles orientiert und
entwickelt sich ...
