Class 3
Subject Goals:
Students should be able to:
- understand the water cycle
- explain the water cycle
- describe the water cycle
Date: April 2nd 2008
School: Braith-Grundschule Biberach
Topic: Watercycle
Subject: Science
Linguistic Goals:
Students should be able to:
-understand the expressions „Water –
cycle“, “precipitation”, “evaporation“, “condensation”
- understand the informations to the parts of the water cycle
tell about ( Versprachlichen?) the parts of the water cycle
with help from pictures/painitings
Materials and Equipment:
poster of the water cycle ( vergrößertes Arbeitsblatt?), worksheet “The water cycle”, scissors, glue, exercise book for science
Scheduled Progress
1. The teacher explains the water cycle with the help of pictures which show segments of the water cycle
2. The teacher introduces the specific terms
( Fachbegriffe) and explains them in simple sentences (s. Anlage/enclosure?).
3. The teacher sticks the segments of the water cycle on the blackboard.
4. She describes one segment of the water cycle ( s. Anlage/enclosure?).
5. One student comes in front of the blackboard and looks for the specific segment.
6. The teacher explains one segment after the other. She removes the segments from the blackboard.
7. The children receive the worksheets.
8. They cut them out and put them in the right order.
9. The children talk about the order (in L2 or L1).
10. The teacher sticks the big segment again on the blackboard for corrections ( zur Kontrolle).
11.The children talk about the parts of the water cycle in L2 or L1.
12. The children stick the water cycle in their exercise book.
Text „water cycle“
1. The cloud is full of raindrops. The cloud breaks
open. The rain falls out of the cloud. This is what
you call “precipitation”
2. If it is very cold the rain turns into snow or hail
stones.
3. The rain falls to the earth.
4. The sun comes out. It is hot.
5. The sun dries up the rainwater.
6. The sun turns the water into water vapour. This is
what you call “evaporation”. Usually you can’t see
the water vapour.
7. The warm air takes the water vapour up into the
sky. It is cold in the sky.
8. The water vapour turns into drops of water. This is
what you call “condensation”.
The drops of water make a cloud. The drops bump
into one another amd make bigger raindrops.
Soon the raindrops are very big and very heavy.
The cloud is full of raindrops. The water cycle starts
all over again.
