Grußworte des Präsidenten der Tornados Wolfgang Wingendorf
Als Präsident des Baseball- und Softballclubs Mannheim Tornados darf ich
Sie heute ganz herzlich bei uns begrüßen.
As President of the Mannheim Tornados Baseball & Softball Club, I would like to take this
opportunity to welcome you to our city and our
field.
So erfolgreich die Teams der Tornados in
ihrem Sport auch sein mögen, auf lange
Sicht konkurrenzfähig werden Clubs nur
dann sein, wenn sie selbst Jugendarbeit
leisten. Wir, die Tornados, beginnen mit
der Ausbildung des Nachwuchses im zarten T-Ball Alter von 4 Jahren.
Regardless of the level of success most of the
Tornados’ teams have enjoyed this season as
well as in the past, it is clear to us that the only
way for our club to continue to succeed is to
develop our youth. Thus, we welcome children as young as four years old to participate in
our T-Ball program. The basic idea at this level is to have fun.
Während für T-Baller mehr die spielerischen Elemente wichtig sind, muss im
Schüleralter begonnen werden, das Basiswissen unseres Sports zu vermitteln.
Ebenso wichtig wie die Schulung von
Skills durch die Trainer ist allerdings das
Sammeln von Erfahrungen bei Spielen.
Spielpraxis ist es, was wir unseren jungen Baseballern deshalb ermöglichen
wollen: Zum einen durch den Besuch von
Turnieren, zum anderen durch die Organisation unseres eigenen Turniers Metroball, zu dem Sie heute zu uns gekommen
sind. In der Saison unserer Schülerliga
waren lediglich 10 Spiele vorgesehen.
Wie sollen Kinder so besser werden, das
Baseballspiel in seiner Komplexität begreifen und auf dem Feld intuitiv agieren
können ohne überlegen zu müssen?
Wenn das Turnier am Sonntag abend zu
Ende geht, wird jedes Team gegen 5 andere Mannschaften gespielt haben. Wir
werden dann einen kleinen Beitrag zur
Erweiterung des Spielverständnisses
geleistet haben.
Aber wir wollen nicht nur die Kenntnisse
und Fähigkeiten der Schüler fördern, wir
wollen auch Kontakte ermöglichen: Von
Spielern zu Spielern, von Eltern zu Eltern.
Aktionen wie Vater gegen Sohn und das
Elternspiel sollen hier helfen.
Ich darf Ihnen nun eine gute Zeit (ohne
Verletzungen bei schönem Wetter) wünschen.

As the kids get older and join the ‘Schüler’
team (beginning around 8 years of age, and
going up to age 12), they begin the first phase
of active learning of the rules of the game, as
well as basic skills. Players are able to gather
learning experiences both through what the
coaches teach at practice as well as on-thefield experience at league and friendly games.
Because of the way our leagues are set up
and the limited season length, we strive to find
other outlets for our young players to gather
game experience. It is difficult for the players
to build their skill base (i.e., knowing where to
throw the ball without having to think it over
once they have fielded it) when their schedule
includes only 10 games! Thus, in recent
years we have accepted invitations to participate in tournaments sponsored by other clubs.
Our kids had so much fun at these tournaments that we decided to again sponsor our
own Metroball tournament this year.
By Sunday evening, each team will have
played five other teams. We hope that the
players will enjoy and learn about baseball during these games.
However, we would like this tournament to go
beyond simply developing skills on the field.
Our hope is to encourage contacts—between
players, between parents. Activities such as
Father vs. Son and the parents’ team game
will hopefully facilitate new connections and
strengthen those which have already been
made.

1.
8 Mannschaften mit Spielern Jahrgang 1998 oder jünger nehmen am Turnier teil. In der Vor
runde werden diese 8 Mannschaften in zwei Gruppen à 4 Teams geteilt. In beiden Gruppen
spielt jeder gegen jeden.
2.
Nach der Vorrunde spielen die beiden führenden Teams (1. und 2.) über Kreuz (Halbfinale) um
den Einzug ins Finale. Die beiden Verlierer in den Halbfinalspielen spielen um den 3. Platz.
3.
Nach der Vorrunde spielen die beiden Teams auf Platz 3 und 4 der beiden Gruppen über Kreuz
gegeneinander. Die beiden Gewinner spielen dann um Platz 5, die beiden Verlierer um Platz 7.
Jedes Team hat also 5 Spiele.
4.
Keine „dropped third strike“ Regel. Bei dem dritten Strike ist der Spieler Aus, auch wenn der
Catcher den Ball nicht fängt.
5.
Der Runner darf das Base erst verlassen, wenn der gepitchte Ball die Homeplate überquert.
6.
Alle Spiele (auch Finalspiele) gehen über 5 Innings oder 1 Stunde.
7.
Nach 5 Runs in einem Halbinning wird dieses beendet, auch wenn noch keine 3 Aus erzielt
werden konnten.
8.
Nach Ablauf von 60 Minuten wird kein neues Inning begonnen, das 2. Halbinning des gegen
wärtigen Innings wird nicht (zu Ende) gespielt, wenn das Hometeam führt.
9.
Bei Gleichstand wird ein Extra-Inning mit Tie-Breaker Rule gespielt. Besteht nach diesem
Extra-Inning noch immer Gleichstand, endet die Partie in Gruppenspielen als unentschieden
(jedes Team erhält einen halben Punkt). Bei Finalspielen (am Sonntag) werden weitere ExtraInnings mit Tie Breaker Rule bis das Hometeam oder der Gast am Ende des Innings führt.
10.
Die folgende Tie-Breaker Regel wird verwandt: Das angreifende Team stellt die beiden Spieler,
die vor dem aktuellen Schlagmann auf der Line-Up stehen auf Bases 1 und 2. (z.B. Pos 6 at
bat, Pos 5 an 1, Pos 4 an 2)

Bei Punktegleichstand nach den Gruppenspielen entscheidet der direkte Vergleich, danach die
„Runs against“ der betroffenen Teams in den Spielen gegeneinander, danach die Anzahl der
Hits in den Spielen der betroffenen Teams gegeneinander, danach die Anzahl der Hits in allen
Spielen, danach das Los.
12.
Ein Pitcher darf maximal 4 Innings pro Tag pitchen. Auch ein einzelner Pitch zählt als Inning.
13.
Spieler, die ausgewechselt wurden, können nicht wieder eingewechselt werden, es sei denn die
Mannschaft hätte aufgrund einer Verletzung dann nur noch 8 Spieler auf dem Feld.
14.
Bei Problemen oder Unklarheiten entscheidet das Technische Komitee.
15.
Am Samstag 8 Uhr findet ein Meeting statt, an dem mindestens ein Vertreter jedes Teams an
wesend sein muss. Fehlt ein Vertreter eines Clubs, wird diesem Team ein halber Punkt
des ersten Sieges aberkannt.
16.
Hometeam ist am Samstag das im Spielplan kursiv gedruckte.
17.
Hometeams für die Spiele am Sonntag werden am Sonntagmorgen festgelegt.
18.
Das jeweilige Hometeam stellt die Spielbälle. Bitte genügend gute Bälle zur Verfügung hal
ten und dafür sorgen, dass Foulballs wieder geholt und dem Spiel wieder zugeführt werden.
19.
Das Hometeam sitzt am 1. Base (Nicht zwingend, belegt ein Team das 1. Base Dugout und
muss unmittelbar danach noch einmal als Away Team spielen und der Gegner ist einverstan
den, so kann er im 1. Base Dugout verbleiben).
Rules for the 2010 Metroball Tournament
1.
8 Teams of players born 1998 or later participate. We will have 2 groups with each 4 teams, in
which each team plays all others in its group.
2.
Thereafter the 2 teams leading group A play the other 2 leading teams of group B: 1A-2B, 2A1B. Winners play in the final, losers for rank 3.
3.
The teams in rank 3 and 4 group A play group B ranks 3 and 4. 3A-4B, 4A-3B. Winners play
for rank 5, losers for rank 7. Therefore each team will have 5 games.
4.
There is no “dropped third strike” rule. The batters is out.
5.
The runner may not leave a base before the pitched ball reaches the homeplate in flight.
6.
All games (also finals) will be played for 5 innings or 1 hour.
7.
A half inning will be terminated with 5 runs scored, even if 3 outs could not yet be achieved.
8.
After 60 minutes a new inning is not to be started, a 2 halfinning is not to be played (or conti
nued) if the hometeam is ahead.
9.
If after the last inning the score is tied one extra inning (Saturday games) will be played. If af
ter this inning the score is still tied, the game will be terminated, each team getting half a point.
Final round (Sunday) games will be continued with additional extra innings until the hometeam
ahead or the visitor at the end of a complete inning.

All extra innings are to be played using the following Tie-Breaker rule: The team hitting will put
its next batter position – 2 on second base, its next batter position -1 on first base.
11.
If after 1 round games teams have the identical number of wins/draws, a direct comparison
between the teams in question rule. If still no team is ahead the number of earned runs of the
games with the teams in question rule. Then the team of the 2 teams in question with more
hits, therafter the team with more hits in all games. Therafter a coin is flipped.
12.
Pitchers may only pitch 4 Innings a day. 1 pitch in an inning counts as a complete inning.
13.
Players substituted may not re-enter the game, only if the team would be reduced to 8 players
due to an injury.
14.
Problems reported are handled by the technical committee.
15.
Saturday morning 8am a coaches meeting will be held, all teams are required to participate. If

a team does not send a representative it will lose half a point of its 1 victory.
16.
The hometeam is required to supply the gameballs. Please use good balls only and make
sure your reserve players collect the foulballs.
17.
Hometeam on Saturday is the one printed itellic on the game schedule, it will be determined
on Sundays’ games.
18.
The hometeam uses the 1 base dugout. If however the hometeam has another game as
