Tropa ng mga Kabataan sa Deutschland
Jugendtreffen, 24 Oktober 2004, Koeln
Am Sonntag den 24. Oktober 2004 trafen sich
philippinische Jugendliche aus dem Erzbistum
Koeln in der Gemeinde Sankt Martin Koeln.
Dreizig Jugendliche aus Bergheim, Koeln und
Bonn sind gekommen, um mehr ueber dem kommenden Weltjugendtag im August 2005 zu erfahren. Frau Anne Keller vom Weltagsjugendtagsbuero hielt eine Praesentation mit wissenswerten Fakten; Jang und Jaz erzaehlten mitreissende Erfahrungen vom Weltjugendtag in
Manila 1995 an dem ca. 4 Mio. Menschen teilnahmen. Mit Spielen und aufheiternden Liedern
wurden die Jugendlichen in den
‘Weltjugendtagsflair’ mitgezogen. Anschliessend motivierte Vater Tobias Kessler die
Jugendlichen zur Mitwirkung am kommenden
Weltjugendtag, da noch viele Helfer gesucht
werden. Das naechste Treffen ist schon in
Planung und sobald wir den Termin wissen, geben wir Euch so schnell wie moeglich Bescheid.
Getting together for the first time, Filipino
youth of the Archdiocese of Cologne met at the
Parish of St. Martin on 24 October 2004. Thirty
young people from Bergheim, Cologne and Bonn
gathered to know more about the coming World
Youth Day in August 2005. Ms Anne Keller of
the World Youth Day Office gave a presentation
on the ongoing preparations and the activities
planned for the event. Jang and Jaz shared
their experiences from World Youth Day 1995,
which was held in Manila with 4 million participants.
Songs and games, not to forget delicious Filipno
food added a spice the the “WYD-fever” that
infected the youth on that day. Fr. Tobias
Kessler followed this up with a talk to animate
the young to participate at the event. Many volunteers are still needed. The next meeting is
under way and will be announced to you as soon
as possible.

Congratulations on the maiden issue of the Tinig ng Tropa which is timely released on the 1st Sunday of Advent.
This is just 261 days before the Weltjugentag 2005 where we are the host here in
Erzbistum Köln to which we all belong. This publication is, therefore, a necessary step to
gather our efforts together and make this holy event successful. Your endeavor has the
blessing and support of the Chaplaincy during our Core Group meeting held beginning of
this month.
Thanks for the finding time to meet even after-work till-late-at-night. Your
hard work I’ve seen so far in the last weeks is inspiring and in due time, will surely spark
enthusiasm from other youth. Certainly, this newsletter is one of the fruits of your labor
and with God’s grace, you will continue to produce more and gather more people to Christ.

Venue for papal Mass consecrated
On 10 October the former open-cast mine
nly around 280 days to go to World
Youth Day, and again we have lots of news
from WYD for you. The pontifical travel
coordinator Bishop Renato Boccardo was
highly enthusiastic about Marienfeld, the
new venue for the final events, when he
visited Cologne in late October. And just in
time for the cold season, new items are
going on sale in the WYD shop: candles with
the WYD logo in colour, and the first
official World Youth Day wine from the
episcopal wineries in Trier. And another
piece of news: To ensure you are always up
to date, the WYD Office’s newsletter will
now be issued twice a month!
at Frechen, the venue for the final events
at World Youth Day, was consecrated
during a service for young people. Around
700 young people and residents from RheinErft county assembled at the new
Marienfeld venue, which lies within Kerpen
and Frechen city limits. After the service
Prelate Dr. Heiner Koch, Secretary General
of XX World Youth Day, blessed a tenmetre wooden cross which is intended to
commemorate the area’s history as a
destination for pilgrimages to the Virgin
and will be placed approximately where the
altar stage will be in August 2005.

Competition with an 'adoration' theme

Pontifical travel coordinator visits
Cologne
Just over a year after his first exploratory
visit, the Holy Father’s travel coordinator
Bishop Renato Boccardo has visited Cologne
for the second time. In August 2005 John
Paul II will most probably be accommodated
in Cardinal Joachim Meisner's private
residence, said Bishop Boccardo at the end
of his visit to the cathedral city in late
October. The Archbishop’s residence in the
city centre offers sufficient space and
security, he said. During his stay Meisner
will move to the seminary next door. During
Bishop Boccardo's visit; the agreements
with the owners and users of the venue for
the final Mass were signed. In his capacity
as travel coordinator, Boccardo is
responsible for the logistical and security
aspects of the Holy Father’s journey to XX
World Youth Day 2005 in Cologne.
European Parliament supports World
Youth Day
The European Parliament has pledged to
support World Youth Day to the tune of 1.5
million euro. ‘Brussels has hence also shown
us the same broad, encouraging support we
have received from other public agencies
who have pledged to assist us,' stated
Prelate Dr. Heiner Koch, Secretary General
of XX World Youth Day, after the decision
was published. The Federal Government,
the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and
the city of Cologne are also among the
financial supporters of World Youth Day.
‘Brussel’s commitment confirms that World
Youth Day is not just a matter for the
church and politics in Germany,’ explained
Hermann-Josef Johanns, Managing
Director of World Youth Day.

Under the motto ‘Was betest Du
an?’ (What do you adore?) young people are
invited to submit entries to a competition
with an 'adoration' theme until 31 January
2005. All young people are welcome who
want to show what is important and holy to
them. Selected entries will be exhibited in
June and July 2005 in the Rheinisches
Landesmuseum in Bonn and the Namen-Jesu
church in Bonn’s city centre. Prizes include
a party including drinks and a DJ for 100
people as well as a Vespa scooter. For more

10,000 euro won on WYD lottery
Someone got lucky on the WYD lottery: a
woman from the diocese of RottenburgStuttgart hit the jackpot of the WYD
lottery, winning 10,000 euro after just
three scratch cards. She plans to donate
part of the money to her partner parish in
South America, while the other part will go
towards supporting her sons at university.
Episcopal cookbook for WYD
A cookbook with the favourite recipes and
graces of 67 German bishops and cardinals
has just been published under the title
'Was Leib und Seele
zusammenhält' (Keeping life and soul
together). The proceeds from the sale will
go towards funding young Lithuanians’ trip
to World Youth Day. The idea for the book
came from the Sankt Josefshaus in
Eckenhagen and the youth support group
'Profil' in Gummersbach. It is available for
sale in many regional bookshops. It also
reveals Cologne's Cardinal Joachim
Meisner’s favourite dish: Barley soup with
‘mettwurst’, a kielbasa-style sausage.

Volunteers follow in the footsteps of
Edith Stein
In October around 50 long-term WYD
volunteers followed in the footsteps of
Edith Stein on a pilgrimage to Speyer. The
pilgrimage began in Cologne’s Carmelite
convent where the young people heard all
about Edith Stein’s life in Cologne. Besides
Adolph Kolping, Albertus Magnus, Boniface,
the Three Magi and Saint Ursula, Edith
Stein is one of the patron saints of World
Youth Day.
WYD candles and wine
WYD candles and wine are now available
from the World Youth Day Shop. The
candles are available in various sizes at
prices ranging from € 2 to € 48 and can be
ordered on www.wjt-kerzenshop-2005.de.
Two kinds of official World Youth Day
Wine with a logo label are available at € 6 a
bottle. There is a choice of dry DOM
Riesling or a semi-dry Ayler Riesling. Both
quality wines are produced by the episcopal
wineries in Trier. The wine can be ordered
from the WYD Shop on www.wjt2005.de.
Screensavers and ring tones for mobiles
WYD screensavers and ring tones for
mobile phones can now be downloaded from
the internet. Go to www.wyd2005-fulda.de
to download a range of material including
the songs Du für mich (the song
accompanying the World Youth Day Cross'
pilgrimage) and Light of the world (WYD
2002).
New WYD planner for 2005
To make sure you get off to a good start,

Venimus adorare eum“ heißt der Song, den
der Neusser Liedermacher Gregor Linßen
komponiert hat. Das Lied greift das WJTMotto in lateinischer Sprache auf.
Außerdem weihnachtet es im WJT-Büro:
Ab 1. Dezember gibt es einen virtuellen
Adventskalender auf unserer Homepage, in
dem unsere Freiwilligen aus aller Welt über
die Weihnachtsbräuche in ihrer Heimat
berichten. Und das in allen fünf
Weltjugendtagssprachen! Wer Lust hat,
beim Weltjugendtag mitzuarbeiten und
über Erfahrung in der Gruppenarbeit
verfügt, sollte sich dringend bei uns
melden. Bis zum 31.12.2004 suchen wir
noch 1.000 Teamleiter und 120 „volunteer
support manager“ zur pädagogischen
Unterstützung. Also rafft Euch auf!

WJT-Mottolied steht fest
Das offizielle Mottolied des
Weltjugendtags 2005 in Köln steht fest: „
Venimus adorare eum“, so der Titel des
Liedes, das der Neusser Liedermacher
Gregor Linßen komponiert hat. Der Song
wird am 28. November 2004 während eines
Gottesdienstes um 10 Uhr im Essener
Münster uraufgeführt. Ab diesem Datum
sind Text, Noten und eine inhaltliche
Hinführung von WJT-Sekretär Pfarrer
Ulrich Hennes im Internet unter Downloads
(www.wjt2005.de) abrufbereit. Die
Fassungen des Mottoliedes in den anderen
Weltjugendtagssprachen werden am
Gedenktag der Heiligen Drei Könige, 6.
Januar 2005, in Köln präsentiert. Der
Titel „Venimus adorare eum“ greift das
Motto des Weltjugendtags „Wir sind
gekommen, IHN anzubeten“ in lateinischer
Sprache auf.
Teamleiter und „volunteer support
manager“ gesucht
Rund 1.000 Teamleiter benötigt das WJTBüro noch für den XX. Weltjugendtag
2005. Voraussetzungen für den Einsatz
sind Erfahrung in der Leitung von Gruppen
sowie gute Deutsch- und
Englischkenntnisse. Außerdem sucht das
WJT-Büro noch rund 120 so genannte „
volunteer support manager“, die zuständig
sind für die pädagogische Begleitung und
Motivation der Freiwilligen. Gefragt sind
unter anderem pädagogische oder
psychologische Kompetenzen sowie gute
Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse. Die
Bewerbung für beide Positionen ist möglich
bis zum 31.Dezember 2004 unter "Für Helfer
& Partner/Freiwillige" (www.wjt2005.de).
WJT-Kreuz im Deutschen Bundestag
iom 24. bis zum 27. Januar 2005 ist das
WJT-Kreuz im Deutschen Bundestag zu
Gast. Eine Delegation aus dem Kölner
Weltjugendtagsbüro wird das Kreuz an die
Abgeordneten des Bundestags übergeben.
Danach wird es im Andachtsraum des
Reichstagsgebäudes aufgestellt. Als
Rahmenprogramm ist ein spezielles Angebot
für deutsche und ausländische Studierende
in der Bundesrepublik vorgesehen.
TV-Spot zum WJT
WJT-Freiwillige als Fernsehstars: Im ersten
TV-Spot zum Weltjugendtag werben rund 35
Langzeitfreiwillige aus dem WJT-Büro um
freiwillige Helfer für den WJT. Zu sehen ist
der Spot noch vor Weihnachten in RTL.
WJT soll kein „kirchliches Woodstock“
werden
Auch bei der Vollversammlung des
Zentralkomitees der deutschen Katholiken
(ZdK) Mitte November war der XX.
Weltjugendtag 2005 zentrales Thema. Prälat
Dr. Heiner Koch, Generalsekretär des
Weltjugendtags, betonte, der Weltjugendtag
sei in gesellschaftlicher und
jugendpastoraler Hinsicht eine große
Herausforderung. Er dürfe kein „kirchliches
Woodstock“ werden. Knuth Erbe,
Bundesvorsitzender des Bundes der
Deutschen Katholischen Jugend (BDKJ),
unterstrich, der WJT sei für das ganze Land
eine Chance, sich gastfreundlich und
aufgeschlossen zu zeigen. Die katholischen
Jugendverbände wollten dazu ihren Beitrag
leisten.

„Ein Stern reist um die Welt“, so der Titel
unseres virtuellen Adventskalenders. Ab dem
1. Dezember erfahrt ihr auf unserer
Homepage jeden Tag etwas Neues über
Advent und Weihnachten auf allen fünf
Kontinenten. Dafür haben wir unsere
Langzeitfreiwilligen aus aller Welt befragt.

„Step bei Step“ bis zum WJT
„ftep bei Step – zum Weltjugendtag
und zurück“ heißt der Kalender, den das
Bistum Würzburg zum
Weltjugendtag anbietet. Er soll vom 1.
Advent 2004 bis zum 1. Advent 2005
Wegbegleiter sein. Nähere

WJT in der Slowakei
Viele junge Slowaken haben offenbar
ein großes Interesse beim
Weltjugendtag als Freiwillige
mitzuwirken. Das stellte Pfarrer Georg
Austen, Sekretär des Weltjugendtags
seitens der Deutschen
Bischofskonferenz, bei seiner Reise in
das osteuropäische Land fest. Zwischen
2.000 und 4.000 Pilger werden aus dem
osteuropäischen Land erwartet.
Ein Gedanke zum Schluss
„Der Weltjugendtag wird – so Gott
will – ein bewegendes, eindrucksvolles
Ereignis. Aber er wird von seinem
Ansatz her und hoffentlich auch in
seiner Durchführung etwas deutlich
anderes sein als ein Event unserer
Erlebnisgesellschaft: Seine Bewegung
ist, wir spüren es Tag für Tag stärker,
keine von uns gemachte Konstruktion,
sondern von Gottes Geist getragen. Er
ist nicht Teil einer
Wohlfühlgesellschaft, vielmehr ist er
ein Weg, der zu entschiedenen
Anbindung Gottes führen will. Er ist
nicht unverbindlich, sondern will in die
Verbindung, in den Bund mit Gott in der
Kirche führen.“
