1 Introduction
Moulds of foaming machines for the processing of expandable particle foams normally are not manufactured
by the foam machinery manufacturer himself but by separate tools and moulds manufacturers. It is required
that for the fabrication of high quality final products the foam machine is optimally aligned with the mould. The
close and factual dialogue between foam machinery manufacturers and tools and moulds manufacturers is a
precedent precondition.
This VDMA-specification was prepared by a working group of the Plastics and rubber machinery division
within VDMA to provide the tools and moulds manufacturers with harmonized basic conditions for the
fabrication of moulds.
2 Scope
This VDMA-specification defines the requirements for moulds for the processing of particle foams, installed in
steam chambers. That covers in particular particle foams, which are processed under superior pressure,
such as for example expandable polypropylene (EPP).
