It all began with a Spirograph, used by designers Prof. Andreas Ostwald and Jan Christian Delfs to draw mathematical curves that indefinitely repeated themselves. This inspired them to turn this illustrated yet very spatial appearing structure, boasting indefinite winding ribbons, into a three dimensional object. They both created the Twist fruit bowl in a computer graphic, this in turn instantly enthused Jan Philippi. But this is where the challenge began: How can one form steel wire to bring a mere theoretical illustration to life and turn an idealized model into a true product? With very artful craftsmanship as well as the help of a template, 24 meters of steel wire are bent to equally large bows and affixed with more than 120 welding spots. In this process, great dexterity is required to weave the stubborn wire bows, equally arranging them amidst the mesh and affixing each bow with a welding spot, making each connecting point aesthetic handcraft. The technical effect of the Twist fruit bowl is created with conspicuous workmanship. This is an unbelievable accomplishment, however it worked and the idea became reality! Each Twist fruit bowl is an industrially hand-made unique piece of designed art. Thank you for purchasing this Philippi product.
