Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
WINDFORCE 2012 was a huge success. The premiere of Germany’s first offshore trade fair in June 2012
in Bremen, combined with the traditional WAB offshore conference, exceeded all expectations.
More than 260 international exhibitors, 6,000 visitors to the fair, and over 700 conference participants showed that WINDFORCE is the ideal platform where businesses can present their products and
services to an international audience and at the same time contribute to the exchange of information
and discuss current issues in the industry.
WINDFORCE has the ambition to be both a platform and a network to successfully lead Germany’s
offshore wind market to the next level. We will continue this event – the trade fair together with the
conference – every two years. During alternate years, we will hold Germany’s most important offshore
wind energy conference in traditional form in Bremerhaven.

3. Importance of sponsorship activities
Your business involvement with WINDFORCE 2014 will communicate and achieve these goals:

• Promote the conference and trade fair as an arena for international communication
and exchange.

The sponsorship marketing plan for the WINDFORCE 2014 include, up to the event:
• Periodic press releases in German and English on a current event, naming the major
and partial sponsors, and when applicable, a press release written together with a business,
with distribution to national and international media.
• Insertion of 30,000 flyers in German and English into various specialised print media.
The flyers contained an initial overview of the conference programme.
• Media cooperation with Die Welt, neue energie, Sonne Wind & Wärme,
RechargeNews and Windpower monthly.
• Ads placed in national and international trade journals and magazines in 2012,
which brought the attention of 7,377,621 contacts to the event.
• Reporting in German and English in the WINDFORCE newsletter published regularly in the run-up
to the event, as well as in the WAB newsletter, and sent to more than 7,000 subscribers.
• Email invitations to businesses and institutes in the WAB network.
• Inclusion of sponsors’ ads in English in the programme and exhibitors’ directory for
WINDFORCE 2014.

The expansion of offshore wind power plays a key role in the implementation of Germany’s
energy reforms. These maritime projects are generating major opportunities for German firms:
both for innovative industrial companies in the machinery and plant construction sector, and for
shipyards and component suppliers. New commercial prospects are emerging for many coastal
regions of the North Sea and the Baltic.
In many cases, the companies building the offshore wind farms are breaking new ground. The
work is truly pioneering – often taking place at great depths and large distances from the coast.
The companies involved have to cope not only with technological problems but also with
complex financing and liability issues.
We are aware of the challenges, and are helping the stakeholders to develop appropriate
solutions. For example, we have provided €5 billion via the KfW’s special “Offshore Wind
Energy” programme to facilitate the funding of the required large-scale investments. In the 2012
revision of the Renewable Energy Sources Act, we have also introduced the “compression”
model, which provides higher tariffs for the electricity fed in in the early stages to improve the
refinancing of the investments.
Grid connection is another key issue. Our Grid Expansion Acceleration Act has already
significantly improved the policy environment for the building of new powerlines. And further
