Constantia Flexibles Headquarters in Vienna
OUTSTANDING
The World Packing Organisation awarded the World Star Awards during the
world’s largest packaging trade fair
in Düsseldorf and a great number of
people attended the awards ceremony. Amongst the numerous international guests were representatives of the
Food Division of Constantia Flexibles
along with their victorious customers.
They attended for good reason, or,
to put it precisely, for three good reasons: Cafétique, Die Cut 2020 and
Feinschmecker Pouch.
All three packaging types received a
Die Cut 2020
World Star Award during the awards
ceremony.
Cafétique is an impressive new capsule for a series of coffee liqueurs
from De Kuyper. The aluminum foil lid
features high-quality graphics, and the
30 milliliter capsules come in an elaborate gift box. The barrier properties
of the aluminum capsules and the lid
are excellent, which is why there is no
additional barrier in the packaging. The
design of the box is focused entirely on
factors that promote sales.
Die Cut 2020 won an award because
it represents a new generation of
lidding that achieve the same performance and use less material - the die
Feinschmecker Pouch
Cafétique
cut lid of the future.
Die Cut 2020 consists of a thin aluminum foil and a coextrusion coated
film layer developed in-house by Constantia Flexibles. This aluminum lid can
be sealed on standard PP cups and is
delivered with or without embossing.
The Feinschmecker Pouch constitutes another premiere since it is the
first peelable dry soup package. The
two tabs and the easy-peel opening
allows the package to be opened easily by hand. The plate also remains
undamaged after opening. The design
and logo of the brand remain intact.
The same is true for the preparation
instructions and the eat-by date.
After the event, Rudolf-Peter Stieböck
summed things up with the following
words: “Constantia Flexibles stands
for innovation, customer contact and
premium products. The fact that we
were honored with three World Star
Awards today serves to underscore
this image once again.”

“We’ll stay in touch” – this is easy
enough to say, but often the connection is lost when things return to everyday life. This is exactly what we want
to prevent with this newsletter. And
more: We want to intensify our contact
with you by keeping you informed. The
reason for is rooted in the history of
our group and our Food Division. We
are a key player in our industry with an
outstanding reputation and excellent
products precisely because we do not
work abstractly and theoretically but
instead hand in hand with our customers. Together, we develop packaging
solutions like those that won awards
from the World Packaging Organisation this year. You will find more information about all three - Cafétique, Die
Cut 2020 and Feinschmecker Pouch
- in this issue. Our efforts to give you
a closer look at our company won’t
stop at presenting new packaging
designs. We will also be introducing
you to members of our team. The first
in this series is Dr. Achim Grefenstein,
our Head of Group Research & Development.
I hope that you enjoy our new newsletter, and I look forward to hearing
any feedback or suggestions you may
have. May you enjoy great success in
the time to come as we prepare our
next issue for you.
Sincerely, Stefan Grote

ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE:
THE BEST PRACTICE –
INNOVATION PROCESS
How
are
innovations
achieved? This is an important
question that concerns the employees of Constantia Flexibles
Food on a daily basis. The motivation for innovations in the field
of packaging is always found in
the idea of making something
new or making something better. This is the goal embraced by
Constantia Flexibles Food.
Rudolf-Peter Stieböck sums up the
essence of this approach: “We do
far more than provide packaging
materials. We are a competent partner in the development and sale of
state-of-the-art flexible packaging
of the highest quality. For this reason, product innovation is the key
NEW PRODUCT
IDEAS?
to our success and an important
part of our culture and identity.”
However, Stieböck further states
that it is important for the innovation process to be managed precisely. His words are implemented at
Constantia Flexibles by means of
the proven approach we call our
Best Practice Innovation Process.
Corresponding structures have
been created in order to implement
this process model for innovation
and product development as effectively as possible in practice.
Innovation steering teams accompany the innovation process from
the idea to the product. At the
same time, the innovation communications team handles the positioning and marketing. Of all the
advantages that this model offers,
one aspect is absolutely essential,
according to Stieböck: “We work
exclusively to meet the desires of
our customers, and to do so, one
especially needs two open ears
and two alert eyes.”

HELLO DR. GREFENSTEIN!
Dr. Achim Grefenstein is the
Head of Group Research & Development and responsible for the
entire group when it comes to research and development. This is an
especially key position in a corporate group that is dedicated above
all to producing innovations.
Achim Grefenstein knows his way
around packaging and especially foils
since he worked for many years in the
same function for another manufacturer of films before he came to Constantia Flexibles. He travels a great
deal as part of his job. For example,
even though his office is actually in Vienna, he is currently often found at the
Weiden location of Constantia Hueck
since a competence center for films
has been established there. “Firstly, this competence center should
support our product managers and
thus also our customers. Secondly, it
should also be the proper communication partner for our suppliers”, says
Grefenstein. He believes that the suppliers of Constantia Food are important since they play a critical role in
the innovation development. They are
also critical contacts for the nearly 80
employees for which Achim Grefens-
tein is responsible and whose work
he coordinates and directs. Anyone
looking at his resume could be excused for thinking that Grefenstein
lives entirely for plastic. He studied
mechanical engineering with a concentration in plastic technology and
earned his doctorate with a dissertation on the creation of plastic raw materials. However:
Outside of work,
the 49-year-old is
also the father of
two children and
an
enthusiastic
Dr. Achim Grefenstein tennis player.
Food
INVESTING IN MACHINES
AND INNOVATIONS
The market for food with an emphasis on dairy products, sweets,
processed foods and processed
meats as well as snacks is in constant motion, and the resulting demand for new and flexible packaging
solutions is equally constant.
In order to always be one step ahead
of the desires of the food industry, we
have invested nearly 400 million euros
in acquisitions and new machines for
our customers over the past three years.
These include a flexo printing machine
in Colmar (USA) and in Blythewood
(USA) as well as a gravure printing machine in Vecqueville (France) – just to
name just a few. And: In the next issue
TIME TO INVEST
of our newsletter, we will present some
of our innovation and investment projects to you in greater detail to help you
imagine what these machines can do
for you. If you have any questions about
the technology we use, you can contact
Dr. Thomas Eck at any time:
