In January of 2014 Pedro Molina contacted me through our mutual
In January of 2014 Pedro Molina contacted me through our mutual friend, Andrew Walker. Pedro is a member of the Rotaract Bahia Notre club from Brazil. Pedro asked if the e-Club of the Southwest USA would consider donating $500.00 US to the service projects they were planning. Our club is a strong advocate of the PATH to ROTARY and did not hesitate to say, YES ! Pedro has sent this report. I am presenting it as he has written it in his own words. Members and Guests please enjoy the report and success of these young people from Brazil. 1st Project • The rest home is called Abrigo Vila Fraternidade and is located in Alto de Coutos. • The rest home didn’t have treated drinking water to supply all the people, because in Brazil the tap water is not drinkable. Therefore, we used your donation to buy 6 water filters and help them to drink clean water. We also bought, with your donation, 6 refills to substitute when it is required. • The project was done in the morning of May 18th Participants of the Rotaract Bahia Norte Club: ◦ Silvino Bastos ◦ Pedro Ramalho ◦ Otacílio Vilas Boas ◦ Juliana Vilas Boas ◦ Laíse Santos ◦ Rafael Sobrinho ◦ Avanilson Lima ◦ Lucas Bitencourt ◦ José Gomes ◦ Larauê Dias • Guests: ◦ Larissa Ribeiro ◦ Kauana Lopes The filters were easy to install, the participants and guests installed them. 2nd Project We used the rest of the donation to buy toys and the club went to a Children Center to play with the kids and donate the toys. This center works to help educating poor children and teenagers and give them food, hygiene items and clothes. The name of the center is: CIAC (Centro Integrado de Apoio às Crianças e Adolescentes) and is located in Alto de Ondina. The club did an activity to teach that mathematics could be fun. They used games and team works to do that. After the activity we donated dominoes, UNOs, puzzles, LIGs 4 and checkers games (popular games in brazil). They also bought snacks to the children and teenagers. About 70 children/teenagers participated of the event. • Our Participants: • Of the Rotaract Bahia Norte club: ◦ Juliana Garrido Dourado ◦ Indaíra Vilas Boas ◦ Otacílio Vilas Boas ◦ Juliana Vilas Boas ◦ José Gomes ◦ Xaline Rocha ◦ Camilla Franco Mattos. The activity was done in the morning of 06/07/2014. Note: We are pleased to receive this report and photos from Pedro. The club had no hands on participation and knew that our Rotactors could be successful in the planning and the successful outcome. The $500.00 donated by our club helped purchase what was needed but it was the Rotactors who changed lives, built “Goodwill and Better Friendships” and followed the 4 Way Test. The future of Rotary, worldwide, is in excellent hands with the Rotarians of tomorrow.
