Liebe Leserin, lieber Leser!
Die ERSTE-SPARINVEST setzt Zeichen in der Fondsindustrie. Die Finanzkrise der Jahre 2008/2009 und
ihre Folgen haben einen Umdenkprozess in der gesamten Fondsindustrie ausgelöst. Nachhaltige Investments haben an den Finanzmärkten einen höheren Stellenwert als je zuvor.
Das Interesse der Investoren an nachhaltigen, sozial- und umweltverträglichen Wertanlagen steigt und
beeinflusst auch die Geschäftspolitik der Fondsgesellschaften und der Portfolio Manager. Die ERSTESPARINVEST hat frühzeitig erkannt, dass der Weg in Richtung eines verantwortungsvollen Fondsmanagements geht und hat im Laufe des letzten Jahrzehnts das in Österreich breiteste Angebot an nachhaltigen
Fonds entwickelt und erfolgreich eingeführt. Dafür wurden wir auch national und international ausgezeichnet.
Jetzt gehen wir einen Schritt weiter. Wir wollen die strengen Maßstäbe, die wir unseren nachhaltigen
Fonds auferlegen auf die gesamte Fondspalette der ERSTE-SPARINVEST ausdehnen. Deshalb haben
wir beschlossen mit Jahresbeginn 2012 sogenannte „Geächtete Waffen“ aus allen aktiv gemanagten
und von uns selbst verwalteten Aktien- und Unternehmensanleihen-Fonds auszuschließen. Das heißt,
dass Unternehmen, die solche Produkte produzieren und vertreiben, nicht mehr Teil
dieses Portfolios sind.
Dabei wird es nicht bleiben. Wir werden uns weiter entwickeln und unsere
Anlageprinzipien einem ständigen Diskussionsprozess unterziehen.
Dear reader,
ERSTE-SPARINVEST, a company that specializes in savings and investments, sets benchmarks in
the fund industry. The financial crisis of 2008/09 and its consequences have triggered a process of
rethinking across the entire fund industry. Sustainable investments play a more important role in the
financial markets than ever before.
The interest of investors in sustainable, socially and environmentally compatible investments is
on the rise and also influencing the business policies of fund companies and portfolio managers.
ERSTE-SPARINVEST recognized early on that the industry moves towards responsible fund management
and over the course of the past decade has developed and successfully launched the broadest range
of sustainable funds in Austria. For this, we have also received national and inter­national awards.
Now we are going a step further. We want to extend the strict standards we impose on our sustainable
funds to the entire range of funds offered by ERSTE-SPARINVEST. That’s why we have decided from the
beginning of 2012, to exclude so-called “banned weapons” from all of the actively managed stock and
corporate bond funds that we administer ourselves. This means that companies which produce and sell
“banned weapons” will no longer be part of the portfolios.
And we will not stop there. We will continue to develop our product range and constantly discuss our
investment principles.

Nachhaltigkeit ist ein Begriff, der bei der ERSTESPARINVEST fast schon „Tradition“ hat. Wir haben
frühzeitig erkannt, dass Investoren in ihren Anlage­
entscheidungen zunehmend die Verantwortung für die
Umwelt und ethisch-soziale Aspekte berücksich­tigen.
Sustainability is a concept that has a long history
at ERSTE-SPARINVEST. We recognized early on that
investors are placing increasing emphasis on respon­
sibility for the environment as well as ethical and
social aspects when deciding on where to invest.
Die ERSTE-SPARINVEST hat diese Veränderungen zum
Anlass genommen, um im Laufe der letzten zehn Jahre
ein breites Angebot an ethisch-nachhaltigen Fonds für
Privat- und institutionelle Kunden zu entwickeln. Mit
einem veranlagten Volumen von rund 1,5 Milliarden
Euro ist die ERSTE-SPARINVEST der bedeutendste
nationale Anbieter in Österreich.
ERSTE-SPARINVEST hat taken these changes as an
opportunity to develop Austria‘s widest range of ethical
and sustainable funds for private and institutional
clients over the past ten years. With an invested
volume of around 1.5 billions euro, ERSTE-SPARINVEST
is the most important national provider in Austria.

zu betrachten. Nachhaltige Veranlagung und damit das
Thema Verantwortung im Investment schließt gleich

have to be seen as evil. Sustainable investment, and
with it the topic of responsibility in investment, simultaneously includes multiple aspects of an ecological,

Seit dem Bestehen der nachhaltigen Produktpalette
in der ERSTE-SPARINVEST gab es immer ein systema­
tisches Research- und Auswahlverfahren der in Frage
kommenden Investments. Dieser ganzheitliche und
objektive Investment-Prozess wird unter Einbindung
externer Partner und eines Investment Boards konsequent umgesetzt.
Um unser nachhaltiges Wirken zu verstärken, hatten
wir uns bereits im Jahr 2003 als erste Kapitalanlagegesellschaft den UNO Prinzipien für nachhaltiges
Wirtschaften angeschlossen.
Zahlreiche Mitgliedschaften und Kooperationen zeichnen
unser erfolgreiches Arbeiten in diesem Segment aus.
Ein nächster großer Schritt in der Wirkungskette wurde
mit Jahresbeginn 2012 gesetzt: Der Ausschluss von
„Geächteten Waffen“ aus allen aktiv gemanagten
Investmentfonds. Damit werden Unternehmen, die im
Bereich der„Geächteten Waffen“ aktiv sind, aus dem
Investmentuniversum ausgeschlossen.
Die Nachhaltigkeits-Research Agentur „oekom research“
unterstützt die ERSTE-SPARINVEST bei diesem Prozess,
um so all jene Unternehmen herauszufiltern, die in
dieser Hinsicht eine „schwarze Weste“ aufweisen.
Dies wird nicht der letzte Schritt zum Thema Nach­
haltigkeit und Ethik in unserer KAG sein. Die ERSTESPARINVEST wird darüber hinaus künftig auch andere
Themen oder Wirtschaftszweige, die gegen völkerrechtliche Grundsätze verstoßen oder als offensichtlich
unverantwortlich zu klassifizieren sind, aus ihren
Portfolios ausschließen.
Ever since the sustainable product range of ERSTESPARINVEST was created, there has always been a
systematic research and selection procedure. This
holistic and objective investment process, integrating
external partners as well as an investment board, is
consistently implemented.
To boost our sustainable effect, we were the first
investment company to sign up for the UNO principles
for sustainable business back in 2003.
Numerous memberships and cooperations bear witness
to our successful work in this segment.
A major next step in the process was taken at the
beginning of 2012: the exclusion of “banned weapons”
from all actively managed investment funds. Companies that are active in the area of “banned weapons”
are excluded from the investment universum.
The sustainable research agency “oekom research”
supports ERSTE-SPARINVEST in this process in order
to filter out all those companies with “black marks” in
this regard.
This will not be the last step on the topic of sustain­a­bility and ethics in our investment company. In the
future, ERSTE-SPARINVEST will also exclude other
topics or industries that violate principles of inter­
national law or are classified as patently irresponsible.

Die Grundsätze für verantwortungsbewusstes
Investment (PRI = Principles of Responsible Investment) sind ein Rahmenwerk,
welches das Ziel hat, soziale und umweltrelevante
Fragen im Investmentprozess zu berücksichtigen.
The Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI) are a
framework arrangement which aim to take socially and
environmentally relevant questions into consideration
in the investment process.
Diese Initiative wurde 2006 von UNO Generalsekretär
Kofi Annan ins Leben gerufen und ist mit Mitteln aus
dem UNO Umweltfinanzierungsprogramm dotiert.
Bisher haben die PRI ca. 400 Asset Manager mit
einem veranlagten Volumen von 14 Billionen US-Dollar
unterzeichnet. In Österreich ist die ERSTE-SPARINVEST
die erste Kapitalanlagegesellschaft, die den PRI
beigetreten ist.
3.2 EUROSIF
Das „Europäische Transparenzlogo
für nachhaltige Publikumsfonds“ wird
vom Europäischen Dachverband für
nach­haltige Publikumsfonds (EUROSIF) verliehen. Die Träger dieses Zeichens, zu denen
auch die ERSTE-SPARINVEST gehört, bekennen sich zu
den europäischen Transparenzleitlinien für Nachhaltigkeitsfonds. Sie sind verpflichtet, hinreichende und
zielgerichtete Informationen hinsichtlich Investitions­
kriterien und Research-Verfahren zur Verfügung zu
stellen.
This initiative was initiated by UN Secretary General
Kofi Annan in 2006 and is funded with resources from
the UN Environment Program Finance Initiative. To
date about 400 asset managers with an investment
volume of US$ 14bn have signed up to the PRI. ERSTESPARINVEST was the first investment company in
Austria to enter into the PRI.
3.2 EUROSIF
The “European Transparency Logo for Sustainable Public Funds” is awarded by the European
umbrella association for sustainable public
funds (EUROSIF). Carriers of this symbol,
which also include ERSTE-SPARINVEST,
commit themselves to abide by the
European transparency guidelines for
sustainable funds. They are required
to make sufficient and purposeful
information available with
regard to investment criteria
and research procedures.
3.3 Das Österreichische
Umweltzeichen
Das Österreichische Umweltzeichen ist
Garant für umweltfreundliche Produkte
und Dienstleistungen. Es steht für
höhere Lebens- und Umweltqualität,
klare und transparente Information, hohe
Aussagekraft, Umweltpolitik in Eigenverantwortung der
Unternehmen und Organisationen sowie Zusammen­
arbeit auf hohem Niveau mit optimalem Service.
Die nachhaltigen Fonds der ERSTE-SPARINVEST sind
seit 2006 berechtigt, das Österreichische Umweltzeichen zu tragen. Fonds, die ein bekanntes Gütesiegel
tragen, helfen Anlegern ihre Investitionsentscheidungen
zu erleichtern.
3.4 TRIGOS
Der TRIGOS-Award ist eine österreichische
Auszeichnung für Corporate Social Respon­
sibility (CSR). Er wird jährlich vom Lebens­
ministerium, der Wirtschaftskammer, der
Industriellenvereinigung und verschiedenen
Non-Profit Organisationen, darunter die Caritas,
vergeben.
Die Kooperation der ERSTE-SPARINVEST mit der
Umweltschutzorganisation World Wide Fund for Nature
(WWF) Österreich im Rahmen des ESPA WWF STOCK
UMWELT wurde beim TRIGOS 2007 als „vorbildliches
Projekt“ ausgezeichnet.
3.3 The Austrian Eco Label
The Austrian Eco Label acts as a guarantee for environmentally friendly products and services. It stands for
a higher quality of living and environment, clear and
transparent information, a high force of expression,
environmental policy under the direct responsibility of
companies and organizations, as well as a high level
of cooperation with optimal service.
The sustainable funds of ERSTE-SPARINVEST have
been entitled to carry the Austrian Eco Label since
2006. Funds that carry a well-known quality seal help
investors to ease their investment decisions.
3.4 TRIGOS
The TRIGOS Award is an Austrian honor for Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR). It is awarded annually
by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the
Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Association and
various non-profit organizations, including Caritas.
The cooperation of ERSTE-SPARINVEST with the
environmental protection organization World Wide
Fund for Nature (WWF) Austria regarding the ESPA
WWF STOCK UMWELT was awarded as an “exemplary
project” at TRIGOS 2007.

Der WWF ist mit seiner Expertise weltweit
eine der größten und profiliertesten Umweltschutzorganisationen. Der ERSTE-SPAR­
INVEST gelang es als erster KAG eine
Kooperation hinsichtlich nachhal­tiger
Investmentprodukte zu schließen.
The expertise of the WWF makes it one of the biggest
and high-profile environmental protection organizations
in the world. ERSTE-SPARINVEST was the first investment company to succeed in concluding a joint venture
with regard to sustainable investment projects.
Dazu wurde eigens ein Umweltbeirat eingerichtet, der
garantiert, dass in den Fonds strenge ökologische und
soziale Kriterien bei der Aktienauswahl eingehalten
werden.
Zwei Aktienfonds, der ESPA WWF STOCK UMWELT
und der ESPA WWF STOCK CLIMATE CHANGE, tragen
seither den Namen des WWF.
Die ERSTE-SPARINVEST verzichtet dabei auf einen Teil
ihrer Gebühren, die sie für das Fondsmanagement
einnimmt. Mit diesen Mitteln werden das Wasser- und
Klimaschutzprogramm des WWF Österreich fortlaufend
unterschützt.
Seit dem Projektstart konnten auf Basis dieser Koope­ration erhebliche Mittel für zukunftsweisende Projekte
im Bereich Wasser- und Klimaschutz aufgebracht
werden. Diese Partnerschaft an der Schnittstelle von
Umwelt und Wirtschaft beweist somit, dass Nachhal­
tigkeit und Finanzwelt kein Widerspruch sind.
This involved setting up a special environmental
advisory committee, which guarantees that stringent
ecological and social criteria are observed in the funds
when selecting stocks and shares.
Two stock funds, ESPA WWF STOCK UMWELT and the
ESPA WWF STOCK CLIMATE CHANGE, have included
the name of the WWF ever since.
In return, ERSTE-SPARINVEST waives part of its fund
management charges. Instead, these funds support
the water and climate protection program of WWF
Austria on an ongoing basis.
Since the project got underway, this joint venture has
enabled considerable resources to be generated for
trendsetting projects in the area of water and climate
protection. This partnership at the intersection of the
environment and business therefore proves that there
is no contradiction between sustainability and the
world of finance.

Mag. Wolfgang Pinner, MBA ist seit 1988 im Bereich Wertpapiere und Börse tätig. Er hat bereits vier
Bücher publiziert, zwei davon über ethische Geldanlage. Er ist Leiter des Teams für nachhaltiges
Investment in der ERSTE-SPARINVEST.
Wolfgang Pinner, MBA, has worked in the area of securities and stock exchanges since 1988. He has
already published four books, two on the topic of ethical investment. He is head of the team for
sustainable investment at ERSTE-SPARINVEST.

„Es ist davon auszugehen, dass Verantwortung bei
der Geldanlage in Zukunft eine noch bedeutendere
Rolle spielen wird. Alle Asset Manager, die in diesem
Zusammenhang klare Strategien vorgeben, werden
Konkurrenzvorteile aufweisen. Um als Investor glaubwürdig zu sein, ist das Angebot einer auf Nachhaltigkeit fokussierten Produktschiene alleine nicht mehr
ausreichend. Die Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie muss alle
Assets umfassen. Das Ausmaß der Nachhaltigkeitsstrategie ist freilich nicht in allen Assetklassen gleich
weitreichend.

even more important role in the future when making
investments. All asset managers who lay down clear
strategies in this regard will have a competitive edge.
In order to be credible as an investor, it is no longer
enough simply to offer a range of products focused on
sustainability. The sustainability strategy must cover
all assets. Of course, the magnitude of the sustain­a­bility strategy is not the same in all asset classes.
