The sea ship Titanic was built in the beginning of the 20th
Century. It was considered, at that time, as a giant step in ship
engineering. At that time there was a great enthusiasm about
everything related to technology, which was probably an
extension of Industrial Revolution, in the late 19th Century that
was so near.
Before the first trip many newspaper said that the ship was so
perfect that nothing and nobody could sink it. They were
mistaken.
Many people got very frustrated because they couldn’t get a
ticket for the first trip from Southampton, in England, to New
York in the USA. Those people saved their lives by chance.
The Titanic sailed for the first cruise in April, 1912. The
weather in North Atlantic was cold with temperatures below
00C. There was ice in the water, but in small pieces that
couldn’t do any harm to such perfect ship.
There were over two thousand passengers on board seen with
envy by other thousand who couldn’t get a ticket for the first

não poderiam danificar um navio tão perfeito.

But in the dark night of April 14, 1912, the Titanic hit an
iceberg and sunk. There was no way to avoid the iceberg
because when it was spotted the ship was too close to it. The
giant ship was unable to stop or change direction in the short

with mechanical hands, cameras and bright lights. All the
operation was filmed for a television documentary showed all
over the world.
Hollywood produced a movie telling the Titanic history that was
big hit all over the world.
So, after all these years, the Titanic is still a great public
attraction.

Havia mais de dois mil passageiros a bordo vistos com inveja
por outros mil que não conseguiram passagem para a viagem
inaugural.
Mas na noite escura de 14 de abril de 1912, o Titanic bateu em
um iceberg e afundou. Não havia meio de evitar o iceberg
porque quando ele foi avistado o navio estava perto demais. O
navio gigante era incapaz de parar ou mudar de curso na
pequena distancia alcançada pela visão do vigia. Não havia
radar ou sensores eletrônicos naquela época. Não havia botes
salva vidas para todos os passageiros e mil e quinhentos deles
se afogaram.
Por muitos anos depois disso, pessoas tentaram achar os
destroços do Titanic e finalmente em 1985 um explorador
marítimo francês o encontrou no fundo do Atlântico. Ele usou
um pequeno submarino para tirar fotos do navio. Mais
recentemente uma equipe recuperou muitas coisas do Titanic
usando um mini submarino equipado com mãos mecânicas,
câmeras e luzes especiais.
Toda a operação foi filmada para um documentário de televisão
exibido no mundo todo.
Hollywood produziu um filme contando a história do Titanic que
foi um grande sucesso.
Então, após todos esses anos, o Titanic ainda é uma grande
atração de publico.
