Rune Ellemose Gulev ist seit 2010 Professor für Internationale Betriebswirtschaftslehre und interkulturelle
Kompetenz an der Fachhochschule Kiel. Er engagiert sich zudem als Auslandskoordinator des Fachbereichs
Wirtschaft für die Regionen UK, Skandinavien, Finnland, Baltikum, Russland.
Der gebürtige Däne ist Professor aus Leidenschaft und liebt die Selbstbestimmtheit seines Berufs. Die
Studierenden halten ihn jung zumindest mental, wie er scherzhaft sagt. Für den privaten Ausgleich sorgen
seine Familie und zahlreiche Hobbies. Er liebt das Reisen, spielt gerne Schach und stöbert am Wochenende
stundenlang im Baumarkt seines Vertrauens aber lesen Sie selbst...

2. Wie sieht ein typischer Arbeitstag von Ihnen aus?

Quick shock therapy caffeine injection...
Park far too far away from my office (More parking please)...
Arrive in my office: Student consultations, lecture preparations and sometimes meetings before my lectures
start...
Lecturing (still the most enjoyable pa.rt of my job)...
Academic admin in my office, e.g. upload lectures onto moodle, grade assignments...
Reward myself with a Good Job Rune candy bar...
Drive home getting excited about disco-disco dance party time (Our kids room has been converted into a
disco dance floor with lots of disco lights, bouncing, music and silliness).
3. Ein perfektes Wochenende...
9:00 wake up satisfied and well rested. 10:00 play tennis or basketball, 11:30 Brunch with people I love.
People I like can come too. 13:00 an excursion or new experience of some sort (e.g. sailing on the Elbe)
16:00 power nap and family cuddling time. 17:00 grill meat. 18:00 Disco-Disco time 19:00 bed time stories
putting kids to bed and I embark on my second power nap. 20:00 news and movie time including chips,
chocolate and other joys.
4. Was gefällt Ihnen besonders an Ihrer Arbeit?
Ability to practice something I am passionate about, having autonomy, friendly colleagues, being close to
students who I feel keep me young (mentally at least physically I think my body has surrendered)
5. Drei Dinge, die Sie auf eine einsame Insel mitnehmen würden...
My family, my friends, an easily flyable, fully-fueled helicopter filled with drinks, food and disco-disco music.
6. Wer ist Ihr größtes Vorbild und warum?
My mother and father. My mother is endlessly generous. She has been a constant support pillar and always
there for me. When I was a kid she bullied the kids that were bullying me. When I was a teenager she put up
with countless school principals listening to what I had broken this time and she always sacrificed everything
to be there for me. My father for letting me evolve into who I am today without putting undue pressure onto
me. For teaching me the goodness of servant leadership, and the philosophy of impressing downwards
(working to impress those below you in the hierarchy, not those above, and knowing those above you in the
pyramid need to and must work to impress you). This applies for work as for life in general and this philosophy
keeps me inspired today.

8. Wenn Sie jetzt noch einmal Erstsemester/Schulabgänger wären, würden Sie etwas anders machen?
I would probably try to get better grades in the subjects I now am teaching.

10. Was war Ihr lustigstes/ einprägsamstes/ schönstes Erlebnis an der FH Kiel?
My proudest moments at the FH occur any time I am reminded that what I do matters and the FH Kiel
supports me in my endeavors. My entire personality pivots around internationalization and celebrating cultural
diversity. To spread the ideals of possibilities and tolerance for all. I feel I can really contribute to this
philosophy in my role as Professor and as international coordinator within my faculty. I am happy that the FH
Kiel was and continues to be prepared to bet on an international candidate to help promote this ideology and I
strongly encourage more of it. When you tap into sources of international excellence, everybody wins.
