Northern landscapes and memory Ausstellung von Lule (18.02. – 13.03.2016) Waves of memory and traces in Bonn landscapes. “The paintings are my impressions of travelling through Germany, looking at the German scenery through the eyes of a woman from the South: the colours of the snow and the rain, the fields from a train, hills like women, women’s eyes, trees... Images show Bonn as seen through the lens of my experiences and emotions. They are expressions of the impressions left on my soul by the city landscape: ghost images and a bundle of emotions. Bonn’s sky and the migrant clouds bring me the taste of different cultures and expectations. The painting is called: “Even the darkness” (oil on canvas). When I paint I usually use standard techniques and tools but, sometimes, I feel my daily life has the right to enter my art. So, kitchen tools become art tools and the wood I find on beaches in Italy or in the trash become my canvas. Those are usually the paintings that are dearest to my soul. Kulturförderverein Nordstadt e.V. Galerie im Kult41 Hochstadenring 41 53119 Bonn www.kult41.net [email protected] Intense memories are transformed into textured abstract images capturing the joy of being a child, precious moments and beloved places of a life lived by the sea, the unforgettable taste and smell of favourite sweets and cakes. The waves of the sea are also the waves of memory. Every time I bathe in the sea of memory I change the waves and my memories and my memories change me. My paintings are visual evocations of my childhood: swimming in the warm sea water and floating on and playing with the waves, the internal peace that we lose when we grow, the food and the life in the moment that we forget to live, being the happiest child on earth when tasting and eating a lemon lollypop, the smell of coffee in the house, the taste of sugar with a drop of coffee and that of cinnamon cakes… These memories are interconnected and changed by my life in Bonn and my paintings are at the intersection between past and present as a metaphor of time that passes but stay still at the same time. My paintings are waves of past and present times.“ Lule - Barbara Gabriella Renzi Lule is an Italian visual artist. She started painting under the direction of Italian painter and sculptor Bruno Caviola. She has developed her original style thorough an on-going exploration of the qualities and combinations of textures, colours and materials.
