HONORS/GUEST LECTURES/STATE-OF-THE-ART PRESENTATIONS • Research scholarship granted by the Department of Agriculture and Food under the National Development Plan 2007-2013 (Ireland), with the title “Novel agri-engineering solutions for amelioration of surface and ground water at critical source areas: technology development and a decision support blueprint for Irish farmers.” Supervised by Dr. Mark G. Healy (October 2008 – September 2011); • Research scholarship granted by the Portuguese National Science Foundation (Fundação Ciência e Tecnologia - FCT), with the project title “Development of CONSTRUCTAL flow architecture concepts for applications in Science and Technology” and the main area Mechanical Engineering – mechanics of fluids and Energy, (March 2008 – September 2008); • Research scholarship of initiation to scientific research granted by the Portuguese National Science Foundation (Fundação Ciência e Tecnologia – FCT), from April to December of 2006; o Final Year Project - Mark:19 out of 20 (grade A – ECTS classifications); Title: “Porous media flow: numerical simulation and experimental study”; Study: Flow, transport and deposition of aerosol particles in Porous Media. Experimental and numerical study, using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) software. Study in 2D and 3D geometries; Publications: Two journal publications (per-reviewed). • Presentations in several national and international conferences 7. PROJECTS Since 2004, and still as a undergrad, I start a collaboration with the Centre for Geophysics of Évora (CGE), in the Évora University. I was involved in several different simulations projects (2D and 3D) using the CFD software Fluent/Gambit (Ansys) and CAD software Solidworks. From this collaboration resulted the final thesis of my degree (B.Eng.) and also several oral presentations and publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals. In 2008, start a 3-year research project in National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) granted by the Department of Agriculture and Food under the National Development Plan 2007-2013 (Ireland); the research was in environmental engineering. The project consisted of examining the potential of two methods – denitrifying bioreactors and chemical amendment – to effectively treat subsurface and surface water, respectively. 8. MAIN ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (UNIVERSITY BODIES AND NATIONAL BOARDS) • Since 2004 - Member of the Geophysics Center of Évora (www.cge.uevora.pt) • 2006/2007 - Students representation in the Chemical Engineering commission • 2003- 2005 and 2005-2007 - Member of the Pedagogical Council in the University of Évora (students representation) 9.
