The interface is factory-set by jumper JP1 on the FPC; JP1 = 1 for parallel I/F, JP1 = 0 for serial I/F. For the parallel I/F version only, the user can select the interface protocol using pin #3 BS1 (for Motorola 68 series or Intel 80 series).
