Best design in print or poster advertising
1st Prize
FOX: The Walking Dead - Morphing Poster
Horror shows are just for men? Think again! To promote season 4 of the US series 'The Walking
Dead', FOX developed a poster that seems to be targeted to female viewers. What at first looks
like a typical cosmetics ad turns shocking a moment later. As soon as the viewing angle changes,
the beautiful young woman in the poster tranforms into a horrible zombie. 'The Walking Dead'
surprises, plays with possibilities and gets under your skin!

Gédéon: OCS - Global Package
In line with the brand promise "You are fans, so we are!" Gédéon has produced a high-quality
design package for the French TV series channel OCS. Clearly structured and subtle in the logo
colors orange, black and white, the graphical elements show all the essential information clearly,
without upstaging the content. Thus, the design supports the content diversity of the
programming. Whether on-air, off-air, online or mobile: We and you are fans of OCS!

Gédéon: OCS - MADE BY FANS FOR FANS
As part of the redesign Gédéon also produced new station idents for the French channel OCS
which aim directly at the brand promise "You are fans, so we are!". Gédéon urged fans to portray
their favourite shows: A man who is not exactly slim moves through his apartment naked, just like
the leading actress of the US series 'Girls'. Another presents himself as 'Spartacus' even though
he only lifts small weights and whines about the tiniest scratch. A family plays 'The Walking Dead'
and wanders through their apartment with zombie-pancake faces: Made by Fans for Fans!

Parallel to the international fashion fairs, VOX promoted all its own formats, documentaries and
fictional programmes under the headline "VOX Fashion Week". An accordingly stylish design
package was designed for the themed week: extremely reduced in black and white and with

TLC: Must Haves Slotpromo
With the programme label TLC MUST HAVES, Discovery Networks Germany promotes Sunday
nights on the female-targeted channel in a big way: A young woman updates her oversized wall
calendar, wipes away all planned activities for Sundays and replaces them with the programme
label TLC MUST HAVES, just like the slogan promises "The best of the week, every Sunday, at the
same time". Our date on Sunday!

Dream on: France 5 - Les Maternelles
"Les Maternelles" is a talk show on France 5 about motherhood, education and childhood from
the parents' perspective. The lead-in is meant to demonstrate the transformation of a couple to a
trio. Playfully and with tounge-in-cheek, Dream on shows how a child can take over their parents'
lives. A little toy worms its way between shaving brush and lipstick, a baby bottle stands between
long drinks and cocktails, and a bobby car parks in the garage. When it all becomes too much for
the mothers and fathers: Dream on shows where help can be expected.

RTL CREATION: RTL – SCHMIDT
The lead-in for the TV series shows the viewer exactly what to expect: Dr. Schmidt and his
colleagues mean "Prescribed Chaos". With sunglasses, baseball jacket and cigarette, Dr. Schmidt
walks through Berlin – very cool, but unusual for a doctor. He's accompanied by cartoon-like
drawings of ambulances, love symbols and baby footprints. The lead-in makes you wonder what
type of doctor this Schmidt actually is. Time to turn on the TV and find out!

1st Prize
ARD-Das Erste: ARD aktuell
The new studio for 'ARD Aktuell' is the hub for all news formats, key issues, special reports,
sports and culture on the ARD. The sophisticated technology of the studio design supports the
idea of networking and the interactive exchange of information. At a length of almost 18 metres,
the curved media wall provides impressive possibilities to explain and present information. Pools
of light around the podium and tables make the set seem light. The corporate colours of the ARD
are discretely integrated into illuminated strips and surfaces. Up-to-date in all elements!

ARD-Das Erste: ARD aktuell
The information design of 'ARD aktuell' is distinguished by its ability to be processed quickly: The
designers consistently rely on a concise modular system. The audience immediately recognizes
the unique corporate elements, the clear typographic design, and the structured information
elements. The pictogram language, the animation mechanics and handling of the colour climate
can be found in all explanatory pieces – on the media wall in the studio as well as the full screen
graphics. A reliable guide: 'ARD aktuell'!

ZDF: FIFA Football World Cup
A design for the coverage of the Football World Cup in 2014 – what fits better than finding
inspiration in Brazilian football art and the joy of life in the host country. Accordingly, in their
design for the FIFA World Cup 2014, the ZDF plays with the slogan "Great Football Art":
Enthusiastic people dunk footballs in paint and shoot them against a wall, so that a picture of the
world cup trophy develops from the impressions of the balls. Beach scenes, striking landmarks
and Brazilian rhythms reflect the enjoyment of football and the anticipation for the mega event.

BDA Creative München: ProSieben Fun - Red Bull Wild Ones
They explode reality, the boundaries of all expectations and the possible: The format "WildOnes –
Young Heroes" accompanies extreme athletes in their attempts to outdo themselves. In the
design package for this docutainment, BDA Creative München picks up on the untamed wildness
and the desire for extremes: Image disturbances and graphical fragments emanating from the
heroes symbolize life at the limit. Graphics, symbols and typographic elements represent the
energy of the protagonists and make them come alive. The high-quality design package supports
the content of the series: the journey to the limits of the physically possible!

Turquoise Branding: Ajial - Ramadan 2014
For the month of Ramadan, Saudi Arabian children's channel Ajial broadcast a holiday
programme. The task of Turquoise Branding was to create an identity for this special
programming. The fully animated ident takes up lots of images from the religion and everyday life;
the crescent moon is in the sky, a boy runs from the football field to the mosque, takes a brightly
shining lamp and rides his bike home. In the houses he passes, the lights go on. Arriving home,
he turns off the lamp and sits down with his family for dinner. Outlined in detail and lovingly
animated!

ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland: ProSieben MAXX - What's the Dif?
ProSieben MAXX is modern, different and reduced to the max. This is reflected both in the claim
as well as the design of the male-targeted channel with international series, films and
documentaries. And that is also how the audio design of ProSieben MAXX should be. The
composer succeeded: Stylish, loud, and yet pleasant, the music supports the station design in a
memorable way. Simply different!

Best typographical design

RTL CREATION: RTL - Stiftung Lesen
Even in Germany, being able to read is not a given. Therefore, famous RTL faces stand up for
reading. Their words are supported by typographic elements. While Bülent Ceylan explains that
with exciting stories one can "cast a spell on others and wrap them around your little finger",
letters wrap themselves around his finger. Consistently, the spoken words form typographic
objects and support the message: "The power of words"!

ZDF: Der Erste Weltkrieg: 1914 - Der Weg ins Verderben
The multimedia web special '1914 – The Road to Perdition' is the prelude to the documentary '100
years WWI' on ZDFonline. With the help of historical films, dramatic scenes, diary entries, photos,
letters and reports of three young German soldiers, the web format traces the atmosphere in
Germany and at the front during the First World War. Through authentic photographic material,
letters and diary entries of the three protagonists, the user gets a very "personal" access to the
topic. In addition to the desktop version, the special was also designed for tablets and smart
phones. A perfect way to bring a historical subject closer to the younger generations!

SRF: Break Ups
It's time for a new narrative form, said the SRF, and produced the specifically Swiss web series
'Break Ups'. The spots centre around couples who split up: A nine-year-old apologizes to his
girlfriend of the same age with a bouquet of flowers and promises to change. "You say that every
time," she replies precociously. Have you had similar experiences? All episodes have a humorous
access with emotional claims. A little mean, thereby somewhat strange but also funny, we want

SevenOne AdFactory: BMW Social Race
The task was to make the audience interactively participate in the creation of a TV spot in real
time. SevenOne AdFactory produced a trailer with individualised split screens that was broadcast
during 'Schlag den Raab'. The audience was invited to enter two words into the interactive
platform 'ProSieben Connect' with the hashtag '#bmw2er'. Those words should describe their
enthusiasm for the new BMW model. The entered word pairs were visible to all users, and the best
ones were inserted live into the classic BMW 2's TV commercial that was broadcast as a
resolution spot. See the call to action, join the action online and see the result only moments later
– it doesn't get any more interactive than this!

There are many calls to interaction – but rarely as charming as 'Chick Norris'. To encourage
viewers to put sixx on six on the remote, this time, Creative Solutions put a man in a chicken

happiness'. Here, fitness cock 'Chick Norris' demonstrates workouts for nimble fingers. With a lot
of encouragement during the workout, he even explains how many calories we've burned. And of
course, he shows us exactly the right button on the remote. Put sixx on six!

ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland: ProSieben MAXX - What's the Dif?
In the spirit of the claim 'What's the Dif?', Creative Solutions produced the digital marketing
campaign for the launch of ProSieben MAXX. Short and funny questions, facts, and the question
'What's Your Dif?' took center stage. Before the launch, a new clip was posted everyday on the
channel's website. On Facebook, users were able to use the 'What's your Dif-Machine' and find
out just how many people share their love for Zlatan Ibrahimovic or their passion for swimming.
The conclusion: "But you are still unique in your digital world."

WDR/Filmstyler Pictures: Mit Schwung ins neue Jahr
Under the motto "With momentum into the new year", WDR and Filmstyler Pictures get you
moving: In the middle of the weather forecast, the lines in the graphics suddenly start moving to
the rhythm of the song 'Blurred Lines' and leave weatherman Sven Plöger irritated. Matthias
Opdenhövel also succumbs to the fast sweeping rhythm. In this manner, the spark carries over to
other WDR presenters. And when mouse, blue elephant and bunny start dancing, nothing keeps
us on the couch. But the highlight is definitely Tatort police inspector Dietmar Bär, as he grooves
with the blue flashing light in his hands. So we dance into the new year, lively and exciting!

NBCUniversal International: Bates Motel Season 2 Global Launch Spot
In the promotion spot for "Bates Motel", NBCUniversal International focuses entirely on the
relationship between Norman Bates and his mother, which becomes even more intense and
claustrophobic in the second season: Mrs Bates compulsively cleans the kitchen while her son
prepares dead animals with devotion. Although no agonizing pictures can be seen, the actions
give off a dark, eerie and oppressive feeling. What happens next? We're tuning in!

In the promotion for the Football World Cup in 2014, the ZDF once again looks at Brazilian football
art and the joy of life of the host country. We would love to join in and haul paint buckets and

experience the joy of football, we turn on ZDF: exciting, colourful and captivating – we're enjoying

What to do when your brain flips out because of sheer boredom? Tune into YPS on RTL NITRO.
That certainly is the recommendation from RTL CREATION. The promotion spot for the unusual
science magazine adheres completely to the style of the comic cult brand: Did you know that a cat
is more likely to survive a fall from the 30th floor than the 3rd floor? Or that bats have either large
brains or large testicles, but never both? Iconic, wacky and appropriate for the target audience!

Turner: Die TNT Serie Spielpause
During the FIFA World Cup 2014 – to stick to football jargon – the tactics of the programme
planners of TNT Serie were clear: The spaces between the World Cup matches must be used. So
popular stars from 'The Big Bang Theory', 'Two and a Half Men' and 'King of Queens' joined the
line-up. The task of the promotion team was to mobilise comedy fans: The footage is commented
with corny football phrases and great wit. A clear tackle in the heart of comedy fans!

ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland: kabel eins Frühjahrsscreening 2014 – Opening
Completely atypical begins the opening spot for the kabel eins screening with movie scenes from
"Full Metal Jacket". In the "Media Planner Training Centre Munich", the Gunnery Sergeant dings
his recruits on why advertising should only be booked on kabel eins. Ironic and informative, the
channel summarises the most important core information for its advertisers. It is vividly
supported by scenes from the channel's programming, and its diversity and image are also
highlighted. Effective, entertaining and humorous – this is how B2B advertising should be!

Universal Networks International Germany: 13th Street - Frühling lässt sein gelbes

The programme promotion for 13th Street Universal, the channel for thrill & crime, is based
loosely on Eduard Möricke's poem 'Er ist's': Here, however, there is no blue ribbon fluttering
through the air, but a yellow police tape. The sweet, well-known scents are overpowered by the

stench of rotting corpses and the violets are not dreaming of spring, but the performer will be

This station campaign shows quite clearly: With kabel eins, you are in the middle of the action.

presenters – straight from the television! How do you feel when Harrison Ford calls you directly to
ask which wire he should cut on the bomb? Choose the wrong one and the explosion will reach
all the way to your living room. Similarly unpleasant are sports presenters who comment on your

Fans know the problem: Often, their favourite series runs in different seasons on multiple

chronological order. The promotion spots show what can go wrong when things aren't done in the
right order: The time fuse on the bomb runs out whenever it wants, crime scenes are
reconstructed backwards and the hostage dies before revealing the information. A simple idea,

For the sitcom comeback of the year "Bully macht Buddy", Creative Solutions falls back on the
simple idea "without words": Michael "Bully" Herbig hammers and welds together the name of his
new series, so it can be seen in huge, self-made letters. We can actually feel how proud he is of
his work. But after all that hard work he refuses to record the advertising message. In one of the
spots, Bully complains about having to be available for promotional purposes. In these 30
seconds we do not hear a single word – only light swing music. We love to entertain with a

ARTE: Summer of Soul
This year, the summer at ARTE was all about soul. Samy Deluxe presented films, concerts and
documentaries. To promote this, ARTE produced not only an on-air campaign, but also created
design elements relevant to the subject. Logo and typography are cleverly worked into the trailers
consisting of footage. The Blues Brothers, Ray Charles, Shaft and the legendary 'Soul Train' –
Soul lives on ARTE and nothing keeps us on the couch!

NBCUniversal International: Universal Channel - Bates Motel S2 Global Launch
In the promotion spot for "Bates Motel", the dark, eerie and oppressive atmosphere is created not
only by the image scenes. Without voice-over or dialogue, NBCUniversal relies primarily on audio.
Dinah Washington's song "Mad about the boy" reflects the disturbing world of Norman and
Norma just as effectively as their obsessive behaviour and their disturbed personalities. Pure
excitement and drama!

RTL CREATION: RTL - 30 Jahre
30 years of RTL! We immediately imagine a flood of pictures, funny sound bites and exciting TV
moments. But RTL CREATION found another way to celebrate the event: the specially written
birthday song "Light On", sung by Rebecca Ferguson. With fun and tongue-in-cheek, countless
well-known RTL personalities hurry to arrive at the birthday gala on time. With sparklers and
beaming faces they all celebrate together. Only Günther Jauch and Thomas Gottschalk once
again miss everything. "Light on" red yellow blue!

Best social spot or campaign
1st Prize
RTL CREATION: RTL - Stiftung Lesen
Around 7.5 million adults in Germany are functionally illiterate and unable to understand texts or
write correctly. Under the slogan "The power of words", RTL CREATION produced a social
campaign with well-known faces like Peter Kloeppel, Steffen Hallaschka and Nazan Eckes. The
presenters stand up for reading. While the spoken word graphically forms items such as tools,
21
clothes, shackles or a crown, the message becomes clear: The power of words can make
everybody stronger, more quick-witted and more influential!

ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland: ProSieben MAXX - What's the Dif?
For the launch of ProSieben MAXX, Creative Solutions produced a broad-based cross-media
campaign with the claim "What's the Dif?". Self-confident, mature, sophisticated and simply
different is the claim of the male-targeted channel. This can be seen in not only the design but
also in the off-air, on-air and online promotion. Modern, stylish and reduced to the max, the
campaign fully promotes the brand!

ZDF: Frauen, die Geschichte machten
The ZDF documentary series portrays women who were outstanding personalities of their time.
But in this cross-media campaign, Jeanne d'Arc, Catherine the Great or Sophie Scholl are
presented in a way typical of modern times: Self-confident characters in sensationalistic style on
the cover of modern, glossy magazines with pointedly journalistic headlines. The life stories are
teased ironically and eloquently as the historical figures are presented as powerful and modern
young women. On ZDF, we see them in a different light!

Eyes & Ears Excellence Award 2014
Kyle Cooper, Director & Designer of Film Title Sequences, Prologue, Venice/CA
The title sequence has to guide the viewers into the movie. Tell a pre-story or introduce the over
all setting of the film. It should generate a seamless over all experience in conjunction with the
movie and guide you from the conscious world outside the theatre into a specific “magic” state of
mind, where you enter the world light and sound. After over 20 years Kyle Cooper looks back at
more than 150 title designs, many of which can be considered milestones of audiovisual design –
engraved into our cultural knowledge on an iconic level. New York Times Magazine voted him
amongst the most influential designers of the 1990ies, for his 1995 title sequence for David
Finchers neo-noire-thriller “se7en”. Other works include such outstanding work like the 1996 “The
Island of Dr. Moreau”, directed by John Frankenheimer, 2002 “Spiderman”, directed by Sam
Raimi, Zack Snyders Romero adaptation “Dawn of the Dead” from 2004 and also in 2004 the video
game “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater”, directed by Hideo Kujima – just to name a few peaks of
his works. His creative excellence and his very often irritating and demanding visual language
that incorporates a mixture of analog and digital imagery, a sensitive feeling for any kind of
23
typographic representation and – most important – a narrative and dramatic power that must be
considered unique, has reached much further than just film. Many works in the field of TV design,
games and beyond have been influenced by his unique style.
