the year 978 AD. The spa owes
its existence to Simon Henry,
Count of Lippe, whose private
physician, Andreas von Keil, drew
his attention as early as 1674 to
the positive effect of the waters in
Meinberg. It was only the Count's
grandson, Count Simon August
and the latter's private physician,
Dr. Johann Trampel, who from
1762 onwards gained the mineral

The nobleman Bernard III, Lord of
Lippe, founded the town of Horn
in true family tradition in 1248,
which rapidly developed into a
thriving, wealthy trading centre.
The castle served as a residence,
which was incorporated in the
heart of the town and within its
walls and withstood the Seven
Years' War. Horn is one of the
oldest towns in Lippe. The mediaeval alleys and the 19th century
buildings testify to this former significance.

Bad Meinberg sulphur mud is
vitalising, regenerating and activating. Mud warms and pampers
both body and soul. The moor
mud is drawn from nature directly
on site on the so-called Stinkebrink sulphur moor and is
returned to nature again after

Our medicinal water has been of
certified consistent composition

Carbon dioxide – the basis

Through mechanical impregnation, the carbon dioxide is offered
as a stimulating sparkling bath or
a Hauff arm bath. The mofette
(gas source) is located in the historical spa gardens and taps the
largest carbon dioxide deposits in

Horn castle and castle
museum
They grew up around the mofette
(gas source).
The significant historical landmark
of regional history with the castle
courtyard complex houses a
museum with a permanent exhibition (town, castle, Externsteine
rocks). Museum-related educational tours for children and adolescents are offered.
Bad Meinberg lake spa gardens
Kempen tractor museum
A private collection illustrates yesteryear's agriculture. Interested
persons are offered a show of
agricultural implements and 60
steam-driven to diesel-powered
tractors at Eggewald camping site.
Bellenberg open-air theatre
The only partially-roofed natural
stage in Lippe offers theatre performances against a magnificent
natural backdrop. Dedicated amateur actors perform on this stage.
Bad Meinberg historical spa
gardens
The historical spa gardens open
to the public free of charge
extend over an area of approx.
6.25 ha. The patrons of the spa
gardens were the founders of the
spa, Dr. Trampel and the Count
Simon August, Lord of Lippe.

The lake spa gardens were landscaped between 1952 and 1955
according to the plans of Herrmann Niemeyer. The gardens are
famous for their water fountain
12 m high.
Silvaticum Bad Meinberg
The country forest park with an
area of 30 ha boasts 110 different
species of trees and shrubs from
14 parts of the northern hemisphere. It is used as a local recreation area and as an educational
area in dendrology.
Bad Meinberg hill spa garden
This terraced park created in
1932 is characterised by its
geometric layout. A broad flight of
steps, natural stone walls, rose
beds, groups of shrubs and box
bring variety to this garden with
an area of 3 ha.
Fantastic spectacles of nature
Norderteich lake
The oldest nature and bird sanctuary in the Lippe district around
the Norderteich is also known by
many locals as "Lippe lake". The
artificial lake created in the 12th
century in the locality of Billerbeck
is a popular excursion and hiking
destination.
Silberbachtal valley
The wild and romantic Silberbachtal is one of the most popular
hiking areas in the natural park
and lies at the foot of the highest
elevation of the Teutoburg Forest,
the Velmerstot, in the locality of
Leopoldstal.
Velmerstot
The highest peak of the Hermannshöhen (Hermann Heights)
has a twin summit: the Lippe
Velmerstot (441.4 m above sea
level) and the Prussian Velmerstot (approx. 464 m above sea level) with the Eggeturm panoramic
platform.

the Descent from the Cross hewn
in stone can be admired here.
"Our" Hermann
His sword scrapes the clouds and
his gaze is directed westwards.
More than 60 m high, the emblem
of the Teutoburg Forest can
already be seen from afar. The
Hermann Monument commemorates Arminius (Hermann), a
Cheruscian prince, under whose
leadership the Roman legions
were defeated in the Battle of the
Teutoburg Forest.

The region's most important natural and cultural monument, 40 m
high and more than 80 million

The main shopping street in the
historic town centre in Horn leaves
nothing to be desired with many
small retail shops. The range of
services is supplemented by a
weekly market on the marketplace
every Wednesday and Saturday.
The shopping boulevard in Bad
Meinberg also appeals by its close
proximity and the adjoining catering facilities. Every Friday is market day here.
