Repeated Wednesdays at 2:00 pm. OFFICE HOURS Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. From Pastor Doug During the month of July we celebrate freedom. It began with freedom from a king and unfair taxes, and led to freedom for life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So we continue to celebrate on July 4th our national freedom. The Bible uses the word "freedom" as well, and words of that vein, to talk about our spiritual life. Here are a few Bible verses for July which talk about our being set free from many things by God's power. 2 Corinthians 3:17: "For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." Romans 8:21: " the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. " Romans 8:32: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Galatians 5:1: "Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law." 1 Peter 2:13-17: "For the Lord’s sake, respect all human authority—whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right. It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king. Psalm 119:45: " I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments." May we all have a wonderful 4th of July. And may all of the month of July be a time to remember that God has set us free, and we are free indeed. Amen. For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. [Galatians 5:13] 2 Caring For Our Neighbors This month we are asked to consider several areas of need. First of all, is the 10-18 year old boys and girls that reside in “Luther Hall”. They can use single blankets, quilts, afghans, fleece throws, personal care items, games, puzzles and craft items. A box for these will be by the church office. The school supply ads remind us that school supplies are needed for the “United Way Community Needs”. A designated box will be by the church office. A list is posted in all the stores. The “CART” is designated for the “New Life Center” (toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, shampoo, combs and deodorant). With all these requests, we pray . . . “O Lord, help me to be sensitive to the needs and pains of those around me.
