Im Rahmen des DC Open 2016 zeigt die Galerie 100 kubik folgende Ausstellung:
Waldo Balart
„Knotenpunkte“
Über die harmonische Balance zwischen Emotio und Ratio
Die Kölner Galerie 100 kubik
p r ä s e n t i e r t d i e A u s s te l l u n g
„Knotenpunkte“ des kubanischen
Künstlers Waldo Balart (*1931. Banes, Kuba), einem der wichtigsten
und entscheidenden, noch lebenden Künstler der Konkreten Kunst
internationalen Charakters. Es werden Werke aus seinen beiden Serien „Nudos“ (2012 bis heute) und
„Injerencias“ (2008 bis 2012) ausgestellt.
Nach einem Studium der Politik und
Betriebswirtschaft an der Universität
in La Havanna, siedelte er 1959
nach New York über und studierte
dort bis 1962 Kunst an der MOMA
Art School. Während seiner Zeit in
New York war er mit vielen Künstlern
der New York School und der PopArt Bewegung befreundet und
übernahm kleine Rollen in einigen
Filmen von Andy Warhol .
Bis heute wurden seine Werke in
mehr als 50 Einzelausstellungen und
mehr als 100 Gruppenausstellungen
weltweit gezeigt. Balart publizierte
zudem zahlreiche Artikel und zwei
Bücher über das Thema der Konkreten Kunst.
Seine Werke nennt er selbst
„Vorschläge“, denn in ihnen verschmelzen, ohne jeden Bezug zur
Realität, die Form und der Inhalt zu

matischer Formeln, welche er im
Rahmen der Malerei analysiert und
die in systematisch ausgearbeiteten, seriellen „Studien“ des Farbspektrums gipfeln.
Balart ist ein sensibler Künstler, der in
Systemen, Verbindungen, Beziehungen und Kontexten denkt und handelt. Dabei gebraucht er die Farbe
als Bedeutungsträger aus einer objektiven Perspektive heraus. Sein
Werk ist rational und konkret, appelliert jedoch gleichzeitig an ein kollektiv-universelles durch Farben beeinflusstes sowie vermitteltes Bewusstsein für Emotionen.

About the harmonic balance between emotio and ratio
Cologne-based 100 kubik gallery
will be presenting the exposition
“Knotenpunkte” („Junctions“) of
the Cuban artist Waldo Balart
(*1931, Banes, Cuba); one of the
most famous international artists still
alive related to Concrete Art. There
will be shown artworks of the artist‘s
series “nudos” (2012 until today)
and “injerencias” (2008 until 2012).
After studying politics and business
administration at the university of
Havana he moves to New York in
1959 where he studies fine arts at
MOMA Art School until 1962. While
living in New York he becomes
friends with many artists of the New
York School and the pop-art movement and took on little roles in some
of Andy Warhol‘s movies.
To this day his works have been
shown in more than 50 individual
and more than 100 collective exhibitions throughout the world. Balart
also had numerous articles and two
books published concerning concrete art.
The artist himself speaks about his
works as “suggestions”, because in
them, form and content melt together without any reference to reality. He works with mathematical formula which he analyses within the
context of painting so that they can

culminate in serial “colour rangestudies”.
Balart is a sensitive artist who thinks
and acts in systems, connections,
relations and contexts. In doing so,
he uses colour as carrier of meaning from an objective point of view:
His work ist rational, concrete and
nevertheless appeals to a collective and universal conciousness of
emotions, which seems to be influenced as well as conveyed by
colour.
