I Fratelli Dinamite was advertised as Italy‘s first animated cartoon feature, though historians would
hold out for the now-lost 1930s film Pinocchio. Released in the U.S. as The Dynamite Brothers, the
film concerns the misadventures of three brothers, musicians all. (...) The message is that happiness must be earned, a sugar-coated pill of wisdom that went down easily with the film‘s youthful
fans.

When the three cunning Dynamite brothers, Din, Don and Dan, decide to bunk off school for the
day, mayhem ensues: they become trapped on a desert island, are kidnapped by the Devil and travel to the Venice carnival. Luckily, the siblings are all musicians and their music helps them through
their adventures.
Full of bright colours, playful humour and light-hearted songs, Nino Pagot’s recently restored film –
the first European animation shot in Technicolor – is a sure-fire hit with both children and adults.

Nino Pagot (1908 – 1972) entdeckte schon früh seine Leidenschaft fürs Zeichnen. Neben Illustrationen für verschiedene Jugendmagazine beschäftigte er sich ab 1927 auch mit dem Trickfilm. Sein
erster Kurzfilm „Lalla Piccola Lalla“ wurde im Jahre 1936 vollendet.

He succeeded Antonio Rubino as the art director of Balilla, and worked as an illustrator for Travaso,
Guerin Meschinio and L‘Audace. Pagot drew adventure comics for Argenovivo!, such as ‚Il Segreto
della Miniera‘. Between 1937 and 1941, he drew for the Disney magazines Topolino and Paperino of
the publishing house Mondadori. There, he did two ‚Snow White‘ stories with Federico Pedrocchi, as
well as the realistic comics ‚Il Bandito dell‘Amba Uork‘ and ‚La Mia Avventura tra gli Arussi‘. In 1940
and 1941 he drew ‚Casimoro Centimetri‘ and ‚Poldo e Paola‘ for Il Corriere dei Piccoli.

Nachdem Walt Disney 1937 mit dem ersten abendfüllenden Zeichentrickfilm „Schneewittchen und
die sieben Zwerge“ Aufsehen erregte, gründete Nino Pagot die Firma „Pagot Film“ und begann
zusammen mit seinem 13 Jahre jüngerem Bruder Toni die Arbeit am ersten abendfüllenden italienischen Zeichentrickfilm „I Fratelli Dinamite“, der Aufgrund des zweiten Weltkrieges jedoch erst im
Jahre 1947 vollendet werden konnte.
In den folgenden Jahren konzentrierten sich die Pagot-Brüder auf die Produktion von Werbefilmen.
Für einen Wasch-mittelhersteller entstand 1963 Calimero, der aufgrund seiner Popularität 1970 seine
eigene Zeichentrickserie bekam.
Nachdem Nino Pagot 1972 starb, führte Toni Pagot das Trickfilmgeschäft mit weiteren Zeichentrickserien fort. 1975 entstanden die ersten Folgen der Serie „Grisu der kleine Drache“, deren Idee von Nino
Pagot vor seinem Tode noch mitentwickelt wurde.
