Writing Part 2: Social Networks
Hi Gloria,
Chin up! In our modern world of tablets, internet and social networking you are not the only one who
is confronted with problems like that. So it’s important to face up to the risks and opportunities of
social networks.
As far as I’m concerned, I also spend some time on sites like Facebook or Twitter, chatting with
friends, checking the latest news or watching funny videos. However, I set myself a certain time
limit of about an hour and a half to be online. Moreover, I never go online until I’ve finished my
work, so I usually spend my time on the internet in the evenings, between 8 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.
In general, I think social networks are a great invention because they connect people and help them
to stay in contact more easily. On the other hand there’s the danger of becoming addicted to them –
and as far as I can judge it, this is the problem your boyfriend has.
The first thing I think you should do is talk to your boyfriend. It’s always good to have an honest
conversation. Maybe it would be a good idea to set aside specific times for going online and other
times for activities that the two of you can do together. Maybe you could also plan a weekend
somewhere else (in the mountains or at the sea), where it’s only the two of you and you can spend
some quality time together.
All the best and warm regards,
…
Writing Part 3: Two Tickets
Hey…
I’ve just got a super birthday present – two tickets for an event of my choice, And that’s something
that we could do together when you are here. Here are the two events I find most interesting.
In your last e-mail you told me that you would like to see something that’s typical for our city, Berlin, and learn something about its history. I found out that there is a guided tour through the undergrounds of Berlin where you can take a walk through secret dugouts and old unused roads. You
needn’t worry that you won’t understand the guides because the brochure says that the tour can be
taken in different languages. So, in case we do this tour, bring some warm clothes and good shoes for
it might be cold down there.
Another idea is to visit the T-Hall in Berlin which offers climbing courses for beginners and advanced climbers. I know you’ve got some experience of climbing, just like me, so we could do the
course together. Just imagine: there are walls up to 12 metres height! If we should get hungry in
between, we can go to the bistro there and at the end of the day we can go to the sauna, which is also
part of the hall.
Doesn’t this sound great? I don’t really know how to decide, so it’s up to you now:
Which of the two would you like to go to? Tell me what you think.
