Trials for individual-format Grand Prix tournaments award a three-round bye to a
Grand Prix tournament for one or more of
the top-finishing competitors. The number
of three-round byes awarded will be determined by the number of players in the Trial
as shown in the table below. Grand Prix Trial
byes no longer pass down. If a player
already possesses a three-round bye, finishes
high enough to win another bye from a
Grand Prix Trial, that bye will not be passed
down to the next eligible player.

* Travel : The players eligible to receive a travel award will
receive instructions from Wizards of the Coast on whom they
must contact and the deadline by which they must arrange
their travel awards. Wizards of the Coast will not refund travel
made outside this service.
All travel itineraries must be from the international airport nearest the player's home and to the host city of the applicable Pro
Tour or World Championship or event, and must include all the
dates of that event. No award will be substituted if member is
unable to participate. All other expenses are the responsibility
of the member and may include, without limitation, accommodations, ground transportation, taxes, itinerary change fees,
passport and visa fees.
This award must be redeemed through member's arrangement
of travel itinerary no later than (30) days before departure.
Failure to complete travel arrangements as directed by Wizards
of the Coast prior to this deadline will result in forfeiture of the
award. Every member receiving a travel award must provide to
Wizards of the Coast an executed liability release, the appropriate US taxation form (W9 or W8) (or have one on file), current contact information
(http://webapp.wizards.com/dcimember/), proof of ID and passport (when required by international destination). In all cases,
all such documentation must be provided to Wizards of the
Coast, or previously on file, at least thirty (30) days before
departure. Failure to timely provide such documentation will
result in forfeiture of the award.
As with other awards, the players must attend, compete
(though not necessarily on the same team), and be listed as
finishing in the applicable tournament for which he or she
received the travel award. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in forfeiture of the award.
All taxes are the responsibility of the members, and members
acknowledge Wizards' recommendation that they consult a tax
advisor in their jurisdictions for questions regarding their tax
liabilities.
** The “Win a Trip to Worlds” travel prize package includes
round-trip, coach airfare for the winner from the major airport
nearest the winner’s home to Memphis, USA to attend the
Magic the Gathering 2008 World Championship held on
December 11 through December 14, 2008, and accommodations at a hotel chosen by Wizards of the Coast, Inc. or its designate. Meals, gratuities, ground transportation and all other
fees, costs, and expenses not specified herein are the winner’s
sole responsibility. All taxes are the sole responsibility of the
winner.
A representative of Wizards of the Coast, Inc. will contact the
winner regarding this prize package. This prize is non-negotiable, non-transferable, and not redeemable for an alternate
award except in Wizards’ sole discretion. Trip must be taken on
the dates designated by Wizards, or prize will be forfeited and
will not be re-awarded. Specific travel dates and arrangements
are subject to availability. The winner will be required to sign
and return prior to travel (i) a signed Consent and Release
Agreement, (ii) the appropriate IRS tax form, (III) proof of identification, and (IV) and other documentation designated by
Wizards; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Minors
(i.e., those under 18 years of age) who win the “Win a Trip to
Worlds” will receive the travel prize package as described above
for one adult who shall accompany the minor at all times. This
award will be issued only if the player actually attends the
World Championship in Memphis on his or her own.
Prize does not include an invitation to participate in the 2008
World Championship Tournament.

Die in Berlin anwesenden Künstler müssen nicht groß vorgestellt werden: John Avon und das ebenso berühmte

John Avon, an English
freelance illustrator,
works primarily in the
field of Fantasy and
Science Fiction. His
professional art career
started in 1983, when he
worked on all aspects of
commercial advertising, from
local brochures to national campaigns. Soon his work expanded
and he began to paint book-covers, including internationally
distinguished authors such as Steven King, Terry Pratchett,
Arthur C. Clark, among many, many others. Over the last 13
years he has produced hundreds of paintings for Magic.
Der Engländer John Avon, der als Freelancer hauptsächlich
im Bereich Fantasy und Science-Fiction tätig ist. Seine professionelle Künstler-Karriere begann 1983 als
Werbezeichner, wo er an lokalen Broschüren genauso wie
an nationale
Kampagnen gearbeitet
hat. Schon bald weitete sich sein Betätigungsfeld
aus und er gestaltete Buch-Cover,
worunter international bekannte
Autoren wie Steven King, Terry

dreizehn Jahre gestaltete er viele hundert Bilder für Magic.
Zoltan Boros and Gabor
Szikszai, living far from
home, formed a
friendship in highschool, in the residence
halls of Budapest
Secondary School of
Fine Arts. They worked
on their first common
project soon after they
met. At that time they
created illustrations for
Galaktika, one of
Hungary's most popular
science and science fiction magazines. Both were influenced by the other's
talent, style and visions. They accepted each other's critical remarks and
observations and tried to make use of each other's strengths. As time
went by, co-illustrating matured into a steady work affiliation. They are
recognized as the founders
of contemporary sci-fi and
fantasy art in Hungary.

Hollywood – die Pro Tour für alle Nationen
D
uring the last Pro Tour in Hollywood, the German colors
shone brilliantly thanks to Jan Ruess. This doctoral student
from Hamburg just lost to the American Charles Gindy and
his Elvish horde in the very last match of a very busy weekend.
This tournament displayed the diversity of the current Standard,
where it wasn’t only necessary to choose your tribe, but also to
know how to construct your deck once the theme was chosen:
There aren’t two similar elf decks.
The difference is to be found in very small details.
This Pro Tour once again proved that Magic is truly an international game, with four continents (North and South America, Europe
and Asia) represented in the top 8:
two Japanese, one
Singaporean, an
American, A
Brazilian, a
Belgian, a Swiss
and a German. It’s
hard to imagine a
more colorful top
8 for this tournament which took
place in the
cinema’s world
capitol.

Die Pro Tour hat wieder einmal bewiesen, wie international Magic
ist. Vier Kontinente
(Nord- und Südamerika, Europa und Asien)
waren in den Top8 vertreten: zwei Japaner, ein Singapurer, ein
Amerikaner, ein Brasilianer, ein Belgier, ein Schweizer und Jan
Ruess. Man kann sich nur schwer eine variantenreichere Top8 als
die aus der amerikanischen Traumfabrik vorstellen.

Zoltan Boros und Gabor
Szikszai leben weit entfernt
von ihrer Heimat. Sie sind
seit der Schulzeit in der
Fachschule für bildende
Künste in Budapest befreundet. Schon kurz nachdem sie
sich kennengelernt hatten,
haben sie ihr erstes gemeinsames Projekt in Angriff
genommen. Zu dieser Zeit
entwarfen sie Illustrationen für Galaktika, einem von Ungarns populärsten Science-Fiction Magazinen. Sie haben sich gegenseitig in Bezug auf
ihre Talente, ihre Stile und ihre Visionen beeinflusst.
Dazu gehört, dass sie ihre gegenseitige Kritik und
Anmerkungen akzeptieren
und die jeweiligen Stärken
des anderen nutzen. Im
Laufe der Zeit wurde aus
den Co-Illustratoren ein
ständiges Arbeitsteam, das
als Gründer der zeitgenössischen ungarischen
Fantasy und ScienceFiction Kunst gilt.
