Voorwoord Welkom! Die Sprache, die ich führe Die Taille, die Tournüre, My dear marquis, a man like you Should better understand that, Therefore, I advise you to look more Closely at people! This hand is surely far too fine, haha This foot so dainty and small, haha. The manner of speaking which I have, My waist, my bustle, Dergleichen finden Sie Bei einer Zofe nie! These would never be found On a lady’s maid! You really must admit, This mistake was very comical! Yes, very comical, hahaha, Is this matter, hahaha. So pardon me, hahaha, If I laugh, hahaha! Yes, very comical, hahaha, Is this matter, hahaha! You are very comical, Marquis! With this profile in Grecian style Being a gift of nature. If this face doesn’t say enough, Just look at my figure! Just look through your lorgnette, ah At this outfit, ah It seems to me that love Has clouded your eyes, The image of your chambermaid Has quite filled your heart! Now you see her everywhere, This is truly a very comic situation! Tekst “Verleid me” van Hans Teeuwen. In uomini, in soldati, sperare fedeltà? Paghiam o femmine, d'ugual moneta Questa malefica razza indiscreta. Amiam per comodo, per vanità! In men? In soldiers you hope for fidelity? For pete's sake, don't let anyone hear you! They're all made of the same dough. Windblown branches, changeable breezes Have more stability than men! False tears, suspicious glances, Deceiving voices, lying vices Are the foremost of their qualities! They only love us when it suits their delight They disparage us and deny us affection, It's useless to ask their pity! Let's pay them back in their own coin, This accursed, indiscreet race. Let's love for our convenience and vanity! Engelse vertaling: I used to believe in the days I was pure And I was pure like you used to be. My wonderful someone will come to me someday And then it will all depend on me. If he’s a fine man, if he’s a rich man, Wears a fine cravat, smokes a cigar And if he’s gallant and treats me like a lady, Then I shall tell him Sorry. Chin up high keep your powder dry Don’t relax or go too far. Look, the moon is gonna shine till dawn Keep the little rowboat crusing on and on You stay perpendicular Oh, you can’t just let a man walk over you Cold and dignified is what you are Such a whole lot of things can happen So firmly say but sweetly Sorry. One day comes a man But what kind of a man Do you know why he does what he does He walked into my room and he hung up his hat And I just didn’t know where I was. He was a lean man, he was a mean man He didn’t own a cravat, smoked no cigar And God knows he never made me feel like a lady. Just wasn’t time for sorry. Chin up high, my chin was down My shoes and I relaxed, but far too far Oh, the way the moon kept shining on The night was nice for rowing and this girl was gone Not so perpendicular So you let a man just walk right over you Who said dignified is what you are Such a wonderful lot of terrible things did happen And now it’s you can tell me Sorry. Tekst “Kleine zwakke vrouw” van Annie M.G. Schmidt. Pretty women wonder where my secret lies I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size But when I start to tell them They think I’m telling lies. I say, It’s in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It’s the fire in my eyes And the flash of my teeth, The swing of my waist And the joy in my feet. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can’t touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can’t see. I say, It’s in the arch of my back, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I’m a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That’s me.
