Seit das Stethoskop im Jahre 1816 von dem Franzosen Th. H. Laennec
erfunden wurde, ist der Einsatz weiterentwickelter Produkte in der
medizinischen Diagnostik noch immer unverzichtbar. Bis heute ist bei
der primären Herz-Kreislauf-Diagnostik das Stethoskop durch kein
anderes Verfahren zu ersetzen.
Since the stethoscope was invented in 1816 by the Frenchman
Th. H. Laennec, the use of further developed medical diagnostic
products has been indispensable. Even today the stethoscope cannot be
replaced by any other technique in primary cardiovascular diagnostics.
Die vielseitigen Einsatzmöglichkeiten werden auch durch die große Zahl
der Benutzergruppen deutlich: Internisten (Kardiologen, Pulmologen
etc.), Anästhesisten, Kinderärzte, Allgemeinmediziner, Rettungsteams,

The application versatility of this instrument is illustrated by the large

Je nach Art der Untersuchung ändern sich die Anforderungen an
ein Stethoskop. Während für die Blutdruckmessung nach Riva Rocci
ein einfaches Stethoskop ausreichend ist, benötigen Internisten
(Kardiologen, Pulmologen) ein hochwertiges Stethoskop mit einem
breiten Frequenzbereich und sehr guter Verstärkung.
The performance requirements of a stethoscope change according to
the type of examination being performed. While a simple stethoscope
is sufficient for a Riva Rocci blood pressure measurement, internal
specialists (cardiologists, pulmonologists) need a high-capacity
stethoscope with a wide frequency area and very good amplification.
Bei der Auskultation werden Herz- und Lungengeräusche,
Darmgeräusche (Peristaltik etc.), der Blutfluss in Arterien (Stenose) sowie
in der Geburtshilfe die kindlichen Herztöne und die Geräusche nach
Korotkow bei der Blutdruckmessung beurteilt.
During an auscultation, heart and lung noises, intestinal noises
(peristalsis etc.), and the blood flow in the arteries (stenosis) are
examined. During a birth as well the baby’s heart rate and the Korotkow
sounds during the blood pressure measurement are evaluated.
Alle heute gebräuchlichen klassischen Stethoskope funktionieren
nach dem gleichen Prinzip. Sie machen durch bestimmte physikalische
Eigenschaften Körpergeräusche besser hörbar und bestehen aus einem
„Kopf“ oder Bruststück, einem Schlauch und einem Ohrbügel mit so
genannten „Oliven“ zum Abdichten der Gehörgänge des Untersuchers.
All classic stethoscopes in use today operate according to the same
principle. Through certain physical characteristics they serve to make
noises in the body more audible. They consist of a “head” or chest piece,
a tube and a head piece with so-called “ear tips” that seal the auditory
canals of the examiner.
Die Bauart und das Material der Stethoskope bestimmen, mit welcher
Intensität die Luftsäule im Schlauch durch bestimmte Körpergeräusche
in Schwingung versetzt wird, und damit auch die Lautstärke, die beim
Untersucher ankommt.
The type and material of the stethoscope determine with which
intensity the air column in the tube is made to oscillate through certain
bodily noises, and thereby determine the volume of the noise that
reaches the examiner.

DIE
AUSKULTATION
DES HERZENS
Das Herz ist ein muskuläres Hohlorgan durch dessen Kontraktion die
Blutversorgung des menschlichen Körpers erfolgt. Der anatomische
Aufbau des Herzens mit rechtem und linkem Vorhof und rechter
und linker Kammer (Ventrikel) zwischen denen sich die sogenannte
Ventilebene mit den 4 entscheidenden Herzklappen (Mitralklappe,
Tricuspidalklappe, Aortenklappe und Pulmonalklappe) befindet,
ermöglicht einen geordneten Pumpvorgang und gibt die Richtung des
Blutflusses vor, der normalerweise im Herzen immer nur in eine Richtung
fließen kann.

AUSCULTATION
OF THE HEART
The heart is a muscular hollow organ, the contractions of which ensure
the blood supply to the human body. The anatomy of the heart with
its right and left atrium and right and left chamber (ventricle) between
which the so-called “valve area“, the four decisive heart valves (mitral
valve, tricuspidal valve, aortic valve and pulmonal valve) are situated,
enables a well-regulated pumping operation and determines the
direction of blood flow in the heart, which normally can only flow in one
direction.
Die rhythmische Kontraktion des Herzens wird als Systole bezeichnet.
Dabei öffnen sich die Aorten- und Pulmonalklappen und das Blut
strömt in den großen und kleinen Kreislauf. Durch das anschließende
Erschlaffen des Herzens mit dem Öffnen von Mitral- und Tricuspidalklappe werden die Kammern wieder mit Blut gefüllt. Dieser Vorgang
wird Diastole genannt. Aus der Anzahl der Pumpvorgänge pro Minute
ergibt sich die Herzfrequenz. Durch das Schließen der Klappen und dem
Strömungszustand des Blutes entstehen der 1. und 2. Herzton. Mitralund Tricuspidalklappenschluss führen zum 1. Herzton, Aorten- und
Pulmonalklappenschluss zum 2. Herzton. Turbulenzen des Blutstromes,
z. B. pathologische Veränderungen an den Klappen (Stenose/Insuffizienz) oder Verengungen der großen Gefäße (z. B. Aorten- und Pulmonalstenose), führen zur Entstehung von typischen Herzgeräuschen. Herztöne und Herzgeräusche werden durch die Auskultation mit einem
Stethoskop erkannt. Die Frequenz der Schallwellen, deren Intensität
(Amplitude), Klangcharakter und Dauer führen zur Diagnose.
The rhythmic contraction of the heart is called systole. In this period
of the cardiac cycle, the aortic and the pulmonary valves open and
the blood flows into the large and the small blood circuit. Due to the
subsequent relaxing of the heart with the opening of the mitral and
the tricuspidal valves, the heart chambers are once again filled with
blood. This process is called diastole. The heart rate is determined by
the number of pumps per minute. The first and second heart sounds
are created by the closing valves and the flow condition of blood. The
mitral and the tricuspidal valve closure create the first heart sound,
whereas the aortic and the pulmonal valve closure create the second
heart sound. Turbulence in the bloodstream, e.g. pathological changes
of the valves (stenosis, insufficiency) or vasoconstrictions of the large
blood vessels (e.g. aortic and pulmonal stenosis) cause the development
of typical cardiac murmurs. Heart sounds and cardiac murmurs are
recognized through auscultation with a stethoscope. The frequency of
the sound waves, their intensity (amplitude), sound characteristics and
duration all give necessary information for a correct diagnosis.
Entscheidend für die Güte eines Stethoskopes ist also sein
Frequenzbereich und die mögliche Verstärkung. Im hochfrequenten
Bereich sowie bei adipösen Patienten, empfiehlt sich die Auskultation
mit der Membranseite des Stethoskopes (geschlossene Luftröhre).
Im tieffrequenten Bereich (Originaltöne) wird die Benutzung der
Trichterseite empfohlen. Auch an behaarten Patienten ist der Einsatz
der Trichterseite zu empfehlen, um Kratz- und Nebengeräusche zu
vermeiden.
Therefore, the frequency range and the possible amplification are
crucial for the determination of the quality of a stethoscope. In the highfrequency range and for obese patients auscultation with the diaphragm
part of the stethoscope (closed trachea) is recommended, whereas the
bell side should be used in the low-frequency range (original sound). The
use of the bell side of the stethoscope is also recommended for patients
with a large amount of body hair in order to avoid scratching or ambient
noises.
Die Schaubilder zeigen die Ergebnisse einer Frequenzanalyse des
Schallverhaltens der Stethoskope Planet, Prestige und Rapport. Gemessen wurde über ein Frequenzband von 15 Hz bis 3000 Hz. Frequenzbereich des gesunden Herzens 50 Hz bis ca. 200 Hz. Pathologische
Herzgeräusche befinden sich im höherfrequenten Bereich von
über 450 Hz bis 1000 Hz. Mit den Stethoskopen von KaWe wird der
erforderliche Frequenzbereich hervorragend erfasst und die natürlichen
Herztöne sowie die pathologischen Geräusche für ein exzellentes
Auskultationsergebnis verstärkt.
The figures show the results of a frequency analysis of the sonic
characteristics of the Rapport, Planet and Prestige stethoscopes. The
measurements were taken using a wave band from 15 Hz up to 3000 Hz.
The frequency range of the healthy heart is between 50 Hz and approx.
200 Hz. Pathological heart murmurs are in the high-frequency area
of greater than 450 Hz up to 1000 Hz. KaWe stethoscopes excellently
measure the required frequency area, and the natural heart sounds
as well as the pathological noises are amplified so that an excellent
auscultation result is attained.

routine. We use high-quality materials for the production of these
stethoscopes. Due to its first-rate workmanship, this stethoscope is
suited extremely well for daily use in clinics or by nurses for all types
of examinations. The double-sided chest piece can be switched from
diaphragm to bell mode by twisting the tube. The exchangeable
diaphragm is reinforced with fibre-glass and is therefore especially
sensitive. The sound bell is made of metal and guarantees such a

Unser Baby-Color-Stethoskop wurde

und dank der Intercostal-Membrane

umschaltbar. Durch Drehen am Schlauch
kann der Trichter, welcher identisch

Die Kindermembran mit Schwingknopf
entstand ursprünglich aus der
Notwendigkeit intercostale Räume
abzuhören. Vorteil der IntercostalSchwingknopfmembran ist die
punktgenaue Auskultation in
den kleinsten Räumen (auch bei
Frühgeborenen zu verwenden).
Einzigartig beim Baby-Color ist,
dass nur durch die Berührung des
Schwingknopfes am Körper die gleichen
Frequenzen übertragen werden,
wie beim Auflegen der gesamten
Membranseite.

that is especially child-friendly, and
the Intercostal diaphragm itself is
excellently suited for the auscultation
of infants. The stethoscope can be
converted by twisting the hose so
that the bell side, which is identical
to our successful Petiphone
stethoscope, can be used.
The child’s diaphragm with swing
head was developed due to the
necessity to auscultate intercostal
parts. The advantage of the
intercostal swing head diaphragm
is exact auscultation even in the
smallest areas (can also be used for
premature infants). The Baby Color
stethoscope is unique due to the
fact that the same frequencies can
be transferred by the mere contact
of the swing head with the body as
in the case of the application of the
complete diaphragm side.

TRICHTERSTETHOSKOPE
BELL TYPE STETHOSCOPES
Eine besondere Position nehmen unsere Trichter-Stethoskope ein. Die
Trichter funktionieren im Gegensatz zu den Membran-Stethoskopen wie
die Ohrmuschel des Menschen und haben dadurch sehr gute Höreigenschaften. Durch das Andrücken des Trichters wird das Geräusch sogar
noch lauter. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, dass der Schall gleich vom Trichter aufgenommen wird. Bei den Trichtern hört der Anwender über den gesamten Durchmesser gleich, bei den Membran-Stethoskopen hört man nur in
der Mitte.
Die robust gefertigten Metall-Bruststücke werden Ihnen viele Jahre zuverlässig dienen, die Aufsatztrichter können problemlos ausgetauscht werden und tragen so ihren Teil zur Hygiene im Praxisalltag bei. Das Doppelschlauchsystem sorgt für eine gute Akustik und mit dem zusammenlegbaren Ohrbügel lässt sich das Stethoskop leicht in jeder Kitteltasche verstauen.

Our bell type stethoscopes have assumed a special position in our
product line. The bells of these stethoscopes operate (unlike diaphragm
stethoscopes) like the human concha and can therefore detect sound
very well. By pressing on the bell, the sound is amplified even further. A
further advantage is that the sound is captured directly by the bell. With
the bells, the user hears sound evenly over the entire diameter of the
bell. With diaphragm stethoscopes, one can only hear sound in the very
middle.
The robustly crafted metal chest pieces will serve you dependably for
many years. The bell can be easily removed for cleaning and therefore
guarantee a high every-day hygienic standard. The double-tube system
ensures good acoustics and together with the foldable head piece, this
stethoscope can be easily stowed in any lab coat pocket.

the fabrication of this stethoscope. Due to its top-rate

for daily use in doctoral or nursing clinics for (among other
things) measuring blood pressure as it fits very well under
any blood pressure cuff. The exchangeable diaphragm
is reinforced with fibreglass and is therefore especially
sensitive. The bells are made of metal and guarantee such

The available selection of thirteen different colours almost
