A ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS Very basic information on the word classes can be found in the Viewfinder Reference Library under section “A.2.2.2 Improving your grammar (A Life‐Raft of English Structure)”; you will find some more examples on the internet, e.g. here: http://www.grammarbook.com/grammar/adjadv.asp Adjectives are defined there as “words that describe nouns or pronouns.” Sometimes they come before the word they describe (She is a clever student.), sometimes they follow the word they describe (This student is clever.).” Adverbs, on the other hand, are “words that modify everything but nouns and pronouns.” And “everything” means adjectives, verbs, other adverbs, and whole sentences. A word is an adverb if it provides information on how, when, or where. For more information on adverbs and adjectives, refer to a grammar book of your choice, e.g. Sonia Brough and Vincent J. Then define what the adverb refers to (what it modifies) and what word class the modified word belongs to; put your results in a table like the one below ‐ the first item has been done for you as an example: adverb (line number) refers to (word class) truly (l. 3) historic (adj.)
