grown German event-industry.
Since 2010 the Location Award is a seal of
quality for top locations offering “that certain
something”. With this chronicle, we as hosts,
would like to warmly thank all our customers,
our supporters, the participants and further
interested persons without whom none of this
would have been possible.

When Frank Lienert came to
visit our offices in the summer
of 2010 to persuade us to
become a partner for the
Location Award we were a bit
cautious at first. Does anybody
really need such an award?
Does the industry really need
something like this? Somehow
however I could not help feel
it sounded quite interesting
and I started to want to be
there. Thanks to a mindless statement from my
side I suddenly found myself in the jury.
And off it went!
Already the first award in the Olympic Stadium of
Berlin was a really fine occasion, handpicked at its
best: nominees, audience, location. The question
about the benefit and the demand was answered
very quickly in respect of the steady increase and
interest in the Location Award. Today we are very
proud to have been present from the beginning
and supporting the award ceremony.
Starting signal…
Each further event was a further development of
the idea. We have always considered oourselves
to be part of the team with locationportale as
well as in the work of the jury, which we are
constantly trying to improve. For us it is a terrific
experience to work within such an environment
where everyone is willing to learn.
On the 3rd of September, 2010 locationportale GmbH for the very first time awarded
the six best venues out of 6,000 event locations in Germany. The place of event was
the Jesse Owens Lounge in the Olympic
stadium Berlin.
The Location Award puts the place of the event in
the focus, and this is then also the focus of
satis&fy: the technical implementation and
creation of a concept, something which is very
close to our hearts as our motto "The True Colours
of Events" means exactly this. We, of the Berlin
satis&fy team, have been concentrating for a long
time in the comprehensive care of high-quality
event-locations.

With this ceremonious event the starting signal
of the Location Awards went off. More than 450
guests from the event and communication industry
celebrated together with the three nominated
contestants from each of the six well-chosen
categories till the early morning hours. The after
show-party in the legendary Trompete in the Lützowufer was a fine way to introduce out-of-town
and foreign guests to the thriving Berlin nightlife.
More than twelve-thousand users participated in
the first open online-voting. Main supporters of
the first hour were the Party Rent Group and the
satis&fy AG.

It is not possible to imagine without…
The incredible feedback after the first
Location Award meant a move was required for the second to Berlin’s premium location the AXICA on the Pariser
Platz 3 in Berlin on October 8th, 2011.
This special event was already initiated the evening
before with an exclusive guided tour of the Madame Tussauds exhibition and afterwards a party in
the Adagio on the Potsdamer Platz.
The invitation list had already grown to 500 guests
to cheer on the 24 nominated contestants across
eight categories. The winners from now on have
the extra benefit of being able to use the awards
logo as seal of quality feature in their own corporate presentations. With a great party mood a perfectly produced network event took place in this
evening between business, event service providers
and those running locations.

Now the third Location Award, already embedded in the
event-industry, was awarded on the 8th of September, 2012
in the Berliner Ullstein Halle and Axel-Springer-Passage. The
evening before the guests met in the party-location Trompete
on Lützowufer. The festival evening was rounded off with a
rushing after party in the Adagio on the Potsdamer Platz. The
significance of this event also has made itself noticeable in the
steady growing applicant‘s circle and the active participation
in the online-voting.

The best locations under one roof
On October 17th, 2013 the presentation of
the Location Award took place for the first
time in Hannover – under the roof of the Expo-Holzdach of the Deutsche Messe AG. This
time nine categories celebrated the wealth of
the German event industry.
In an open online-voting system the users could vote which
three applicants in each category they would like to nominate
for the Location Award in 2013. The expert‘s jury had determined the prizewinners according to strict criteria. Beside the
specific criteria in each category, general factors were evaluated, such as additional services for events, external appearance,
flexibility, design, logistics, environmental sustainability,
technology and the level of innovation of the location.

In contrast to the open online-voting experienced
in the previous years in 2014 for the first time the
more than 500 submitted applications were evaluated by event planners within companies, from event
agencies and associations as well as from experts
of the event industry.
In the next step, event experts then employed a
points system to evaluate the applicants. These
event experts had been pre-qualified by virtue of
an online-registration system whereby they had to
submit information referring to company, agency or
association they belong to as well as branch affiliation and the number of events carried out per year.
At the end 1,800 event planners delivered 5,000
votes.
The result of this evaluation was three nominees for
each category. The 11-strong expert jury selected
the winners from the nominees through a multi-stage procedure. In the first step the experts judged
the locations with the help of more detailed evaluation forms. These were tuned to consider contents
to the specific features of each single category
enabling a differentiated judgment. The possibilities
of utilisation, the infrastructure, the representation
on the internet and the explanatory power of the
presentation documents, for example, belonged to
the assessment criteria.
According to category concerned, features such as
sustainability, uniqueness, flexibility, design, size
and history of the location were noted on the
evaluation forms of the jury. Also ghost event inquiries were sent out to test the locations under almost
real conditions. Finally, selected jury members visited well-chosen locations to further get a personal
impression. At the final jury meeting the experts
arduously consulted on each category – until in the
end the eleven best locations of 2014 were certain!
