The focus is not on quantity but on the contribution made to the cultural environment in the field of construction, and on the question of appropriate and sustainable construction. The objective is to show that wooden architecture is becoming increasingly attractive for the resulting symbiosis of quality and the responsible use of resources. Market analysis and market opportunities Chair: Rudolf Sellhorst, German Federal Society for Prefabricated Housing, DE-Bad Honnef The construction market has been changing for some time now, leaving the buyer in a position of strength. But there has been no change so far in the self-perception of the contractors, no move away from “We can build houses” to “We can sell houses”. And yet the process is inevitable. Analysis of the market must be followed by definition of a clear profile on that market and consistent marketing with the help of modern tools and technologies. Those who offer everything will be compared with everybody – leaving the price as the only distinctive feature for the customer. This seminar offers an introduction to the analysis process. 13.15 Arrival of attendees 13.15 Arrival of attendees 13.50 Welcome Ralph Schläpfer, Lignatur, CH-Waldstatt Casa Montarina, the timber tower Lorenzo Felder, Studio d’architettura, CH-Lugano 13.50 Welcome Detlef Bühmann, President of the German Federal Society for Prefabricated Housing (BDF),DE-Bad Honnef Market analysis for Germany, Austria and Switzerland – potential and opportunities in the construction of detached and semidetached houses and rehabilitation measures for enhanced energy efficiency Martin Langen, B+L Marktdaten, DE-Bonn 14.00 14.40 15.20 16.00 16.30 17.10 17.50 14.00 Planning with wood – precision reduction Stefan Kamm, Kalliopi Gkeka Stefan Stamm Architekten, DE-Stuttgart Of firs and linden trees Matthias Bischoff, Arge BMBK, CH-Zürich 15.00 Coffee break in the exhibition area Coffee sponsored by Stora Enso Timber Deutschland, DE-Pfarrkirchen 15.20 Competitive pressures and customer behavior – success through clear brand and company profiling Michael Brandtner, Focusing-Consultant, AT-Rohrbach 16.20 Coffee break in the exhibition area Coffee sponsored by Stora Enso Timber Deutschland, DE-Pfarrkirchen 16.40 Turning customers into fans: marketing in the Web 2.0 Christoph Windscheif, INSM – Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft, DE-Cologne 17.25 Increased market opportunities through greater flexibility in the production of prefabricated wooden houses Jürgen Klaus, Weinmann Holzbausystemtechnik, DE-St. Johann Coffee break in the exhibition area Coffee sponsored by Holzindustrie Pfeifer, AT-Imst Norwegian wood Reinhard Kropf, Helen and Hard Architects, NO-Stavanger Of steep slopes and dizzy heights Andreas Cukrowicz, Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten, AT-Bregenz Weightless Patricia Capua Mann, Graeme Mann et Patricia Capua Mann, CH-Lausanne approx. 18.30 Final discussion approx. 18.40 Final discussion Pre-Conference Seminar III Pre-Conference Seminar IV Wooden House Construction Forum Organized by the European Federation of Timber Construction (EVH) Connector Technology Forum Organized by TU Graz in collaboration with Vinzenz Harrer (AT) and Schmid Schrauben (AT) Added value of sustainable construction Chair: Ullrich Huth, President of the Association of German Master Carpenters (BDZ), DE-Berlin Such developments as climate change, dwindling resources, fluctuating energy prices and demographic change significantly impact the value of real estate. Thursday, 3 December 2009 MARKET FRAMEWORK – Like all industries, the wood industry is dependent on the political and economic framework in which it operates. In the run-up to an international conference it is therefore meaningful to consider the relevant political tendencies and economic developments at the national and international levels. 08.10 Arrival of attendees and coffee Coffee sponsored by Steico, DE-Feldkirchen 08.40 Welcome Prof. Dr. Matti Kairi, TU Helsinki, FI-Helsinki Structural change: crises and opportunities Chair: Prof. Uwe Germerott, BFH Biel, CH-Biel In the last few years the raw materials crisis, energy crisis and world economic crisis have also im-pacted the construction industry. The resulting necessary rethink in society and the business commu-nity is generating an increasing focus on the sustainable use of resources in life in general and con-struction in particular. A rethink in the marketplace in terms of new products takes courage, and that in turn presupposes a need. Seite 5 | 6 09.00 The world after the crisis: What is left, what is new? As a natural and renewable resource, wood has qualities that are vital to our survival. If wood as a building material did not exist, we would have to invent it. All actors in the construction industry are accordingly called upon to ensure that wood plays a greater role as a construction material than in the recent past. Block A Block B Host country Sweden Bridges and recreational walkways Chair: Tobias Schauerte, Växjö University, SE-Växjö Timber construction in Sweden has undergone a transformation. For 130 years it was illegal to use wood in supporting structures with more than two stories, but that changed 15 years ago. The Swedish Wood Construction Strategy (2004-2008) set the scene for improving the competitive position of wood construction. The main focus was on practical requirements calling for further developments in wood construction in various respects. Our Swedish colleagues will present the results achieved in the country to date, the challenges that lie ahead and the new Swedish strategy for the future of wood construction. Chair: Prof. Michael Flach, University of Innsbruck, AT-Innsbruck With new methods for analyzing existing structures and examples of modern timber bridges, this block will give an insight into the state of the art with regard to maintenance and the service life of timber bridges. New challenges await timber construction companies in the form of high-level recreational walkways in spectacular designs. 08.30 Wood construction in Sweden from 1994 to 2008 Niclas Svensson, Sveriges Träbyggnadskansli, SE-Stockholm 08.30 Today’s procedures for analyzing existing timber bridges Dr. Andreas Hasenstab, Remmers Fachplanung, DE-Löningen 09.00 An architect’s view of wooden buildings erected in the last few years Prof. Magnus Silfverhielm, AIX arkitekter AB, SE-Stockholm 09.00 Oloron St. Marie edestrian bridge Jean-François Blassel, RFR-Paris, FR-Paris 09.30 Industrial timber construction Prof. Lars Stehn, Luleå Tekniska Universitet, SE-Luleå 09.30 Block-bonded bridges for the German Federal Garden Exhibition Prof. Dr. Johann Pravida, HS Ro Rosenheim, DE-Rosenheim 10.00 Coffee break Coffee sponsored by Saint Gobain Rigips, DE-Düsseldorf 10.00 Coffee break Coffee sponsored by Saint Gobain Rigips, DE-Düsseldorf 10.20 Challenges in timber construction Prof. Charlotte Bengtsson, SP Trätek, SE-Borås 10.20 A bridge for the Dragon King in Bhutan Wolfram Kübler, Walt + Garmarini, CH-Zürich 10.50 Limnological potpourri – practical experience with 8-storey wooden buildings Prof. Erik Serrano, Växjö Universitet, SE-Växjö 10.50 Rachau treetop walkway Wolfgang Wild, Almholz VertriebsGmbH, AT-Fladnitz 11.20 Strategy for the future – Timber City 2012 Prof. Erland Ullstad, Växjö kommun, SE-Växjö; Niclas Svensson, Sveriges Träbyggnadskansli, SE-Stockholm 11.20 Raised bog walkway in the Wilder Kaiser Dr. Christian Stöffler, FS1-ZT GmbH, AT-Innsbruck 11.50 Coffee break Coffee sponsored by Türmerleim, DE-Ludwigsburg 11.50 Coffee break Coffee sponsored by Türmerleim, CH-Basel Seite 7 | 8 Block C Energy-efficient construction Chair: Prof. Andreas Müller, BFH Biel, CH-Biel Wood is an ideal material with diverse potential for the construction of energy-efficient buildings, a fact that is being recognized by more and more investors, planners and clients.
