THURSDAY, 24TH SEPTEMBER The triathlon party has started! The front desk opened at 12h00 a.m at Cascais bay, nothing like overseeing the gathering of the athletes and trying to get my athlete’s kit. FRIDAY, 25TH SEPTEMBER PREPARATIONS 2 days until the race: Verified my check-list and I have all the equipment necessary, with Saturday still free to the last minute preparations. Breaks checked changes and tires of my bike. Breaks are not perfect. Tomorrow I have to fix this problem with Bikefix at the event, not only for my safety mas also the other athletes. The referees check all equipment and only allows who comply with all safety. SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER THE DAY BEFORE THE RACE 4H P.M – DETAILS ALERT! In the morning I went to Bikefix at Cascais bay where they fixed my brakes. I am glad that I tested them yesterday, otherwise I was having a bad surprise on the race day! I thought about buying a lycra surf shirt to wear on the swimming segment, swimming with the upper body naked is not allowed by the Regulation. 15 days ago I chose the isothermal suit, certainly I will be warmer and It floats better. I have tested it in several practices and it felt good. THE ATHLETE’S KIT I am now heading Cascais bay to get my kit, that contains the bib, swimming cap, and bike number. The event’s organization has been alerting all participants of the Everis Corporate Super-sprint and longer races that the bib has no elastic band or pin to attach. At Aqualoja shop they sell those elastic bands really cheap and also can be used for other races. regulations, helmets secured, breaks, bib… Com tempo vou focar-me no percurso de natação, aquecer e concentrar-me. NOITE DA VÉSPERA Hidratei-me melhor toda a semana e comi saudávelmente. ELECTRONIC CHIP The elecetronic chip will be marking the time for the races Adecco Super-sprint and Everis Corporate Division Super-sprint and will be delivered at check –in, at the Transition Park entry tomorrow between 1h00 p.m and 2h10 p.m. The chip must be attached to the ankle, not too tight because the body dilates with exercise, but guaranteeing that it is not loose. What a thrill has been seeing all the long races athletes. World race is going to pick up their equipment at 12h00. We will be taking the free spaces that gather more than 700 athletes. Tonight I will leave everything ready. I am also enjoying the presence of the FTP referees to make some questions about tomorrow’s race. On the race’s day, I will be nervous so I want to have time to leave everything at the Transition Park and get to Praia dos Pescadores, peacefully. With time I will focus on the swimming segment, warm up and concentration. EVERIS CORPORATE DIVISION RELAY-RACE I know that in relay race the chip is equivalent to the “testimony”, as well as the bib, which should switch hands at the Transition Park entry, very interesting this team experience! NIGHT BEFORE THE RACE I hydrated better this week and ate healthier. Today I am having dinner at Boost Pasta Party at Hotel Vila Galé Cascais a little pasta recharges batteries. I sticked the number on my bike and adjusted the bib to my waist. I have all the equipment set for tomorrow without forgetting a bottle of water to drink between breakfast and the race, a little bar and an energetic Zipvit gel. Continuo a hidratar-me Daqui a pouco estou a caminho do meu 1º triatlo! I have just eated my breakfast. I drank a natural juice, toasted bread with jelly, a banana and a coffee. I am going straight away to the bathroom. Happily, I have prepared this physiological ritual for weeks now and I am avoiding last minute lines. I am still hydrating and in a little while, I am on my way to my first triathlon! I did a last check, not forgetting anything, helmet, bib placed, bottle with something to drink on the bike, race’s shoes. MANHÃ DA PROVA. SEGURANÇA Sinto-me bem. Mantenho-me sempre hidratado. A partida será às 14h30. SAFETY I feel good. I know that triathlon is a very demanding sport and that I have to be in a minimum physical shape to participate. If I felt ill I would never put my health at risk, it is a day to have some fun. RACE AFTERNOON I had a light lunch, easy to digest at 12h00, with no fats and a banana. I always keep myself hydrated. The race starts at 2h30 p.m. ESTOU NA ÁREA DE TRANSIÇÃO PLENA BAÍA DE CASCAIS. Aqui fervilham as primeiras emoções. Entregam-me o chip e registam-me. I AM AT TRANSITION AREA CASCAIS BAY. Here the first emotions take place. It will be in this park that the SWIMMING to cycling transition will take place, and after also the running transition. The park just opened for the races Adecco SuperSprint and Everis Corporate Super-Sprint . CHECK-IN AT TRANSITION AREA I have already placed my bib, I have the helmet in my head and the swimming cap in my hand, because the referees are now checking all equipment at the park entry. The chip has been delivered to me and I am already registered. As the chip is small and easy to lose, I already have it on my ankle. The park is really big! I could choose the ideal spot for me. It is very important to find a good reference point, a sign, a pole, so you do not get lost looking for the bike and the running shoes in the transitions. I have placed my bike at the support stuck by the seat, but before I checked if the changes where in correct position for when I start pedaling. At the basket that the organization gives you at the entry, I placed the helmet, bib (because we are not supposed to swim with it), shoes for the cycling, running shoes already aligned and ready to wear. I left them untied and opened facing me so I can put them on quickly when coming from the swimming segment. I cannot leave anything else in the Park so I take my backpack with the remaining equipment with me. I have left the transition park by the opposite side of where I entered. I already seen the lign that needs to be respected to mount and dismount the bikes. Leaving the park they did a last check to see if my chip was correctly associated with my bib. I drank some water too. With my wetsuit half dressed ultil the waist, swimming cap on, swimming glasses in my hand I go down to Praia dos Pescadores. In the sand we see hundreds of footsteps of athletes that just like me will have an unforgettable afternoon. This few months of training with Ironconde gave the confidence that I needed and I am ready for the challenge. As I was here early I have time to relax a little bit and foresee my race. I close my eyes and I imagine the race, letting myself go and experiencing One thousand emotions. 15 minutes for the start, already many athletes in the beach. I am fully equipped, swimming cap, glasses, chip, cycling shorts, isothermal suit. I had to get in the water before the race starts, swim a little, and check the swimming glasses, and also get used to the water temperature that is important. Before getting inside, I ran a little in the sand as warm up. The race is about to begin and there are so many athletes that I decided that I will not be swimming in the mess. I will be in the back and in one of the sides. THE RACE HAS STARTED I am swimming towards the first floater of this 300 m of swimming. Initially it was difficult to breathe because of the suit being tight, but now I am fine. There are so many swimmers that I prefer to swim by the side and go around the floater outside the “laundry machine”. I think I will win some more time! Here, far from the floater we are more comfortable. back and in one of the sides. back and in one of the sides. CHEGUEI À AREIA! Estou feliz! AGAIN ON THE BEACH! I am happy! I take the swimming glasses off my head but still with the cap on I run towards the Transition Park. When I first started running I felt some dizziness, but I already was warned that that might happen during the first seconds that you come from a horizontal position to a vertical position to run. I ALREADY ENTERED THE TRANSITION AREA and identified the reference point. My bike is right over there, still it is complicated to find it in the middle of these hundreds of bikes. I put the suit, the cap, and glasses inside the basket, everything in otherwise I may end up disqualified! CYCLING HAS STARTED! In the Super races, we do two laps cycling that makes 8 km. I only imagine the challenge getting bigger next year! On the last lap, at Centro Cultural de Cascais roundabout I turned to the Transition Area access, dangerous descent to be made with moderated speed. Returning to the Transition Area, a referee with the yellow flag and a yellow line on the floor marks the “get off the bike” area. With the bike by my hand, I look to the reference point and I quickly find my running shoes! I reached the right spot, hang my bike and then took off the helmet and the shoes to put inside the basket. I putted my running shoes on and started the running segment. Leaving the park the referees screams “BIB FACING FORWARD!” . I finished my race, and I´m feeling so well! Next year a longer challenge! VIVA O TRIATLO! \HAVE A NICE RACE!
