Era um T3+1 excessivamente compartimentado, desactualizado sob o ponto de vista funcional e da decoração, com papel de parede antigo, alcatifa velha e
madeiras escuras. Mas apresentava traços distintos.
Michael Miranda, arquitecto de formação, reconheceu o potencial deste apartamento, inscrito numa zona
nobre da Boavista. Desconstruiu-o para o transformar
num T1+1 de 160 m2 que acolhe os dias com amplidão e conforto. Da remodelação profunda ao modo
como é habitado, eis um exercício prático de liberdade.
A escolha foi facilitada. Ao sócio e criativo da Ding
Dong - Arquitectura e Interiores começou por agradar
o bairro, “tranquilo, mas perto de tudo”, e a qualidade
dos edifícios, um conjunto dos anos 70. Já o apartamento “permitia uma configuração que se ajustava ao
ideal de casa que pretendia para mim”, conforme nos
salienta. A transformação efectuada acaba por revelar
pragmatismo: este T1 tem uma boa zona social, “com
espaço onde é preciso e eficácia onde faz falta”, e uma
zona íntima que, não sendo grande, “é muito confortável” e tem bastante arrumação.
Se pedirmos a Michael Miranda para identificar o seu
espaço de eleição, a resposta é “A sala, sem dúvida”.
Ao oferecer-lhe o quarto maior do apartamento original, conseguiu uma divisão ampla de duas frentes. É
nela que estão algumas das peças que mais aprecia. E
se lhe perguntarmos por uma? “O lustre Carlo Scarpa,
dos anos 60, talvez seja mesmo o preferido”…
A estética dos anos 70 é, contudo, a que mais se evidencia na decoração, de forma contemporizada e não
ostensiva. De resto, o nosso anfitrião quis um ambiente “o mais neutro possível” mas pontuado por detalhes de forma e cor fortes; soluções que interditam a
monotonia. É o caso da grelha do hall de entrada, que
influencia a atmosfera da sala. Trata-se, explica o criativo, de “um desenho claramente neoplasticista, mas
os materiais utilizados, latão, carvalho preto, espelho,
bronze, vidro com linho, atribuem-lhe um sentimento
muito seventies”.
Concluída a visita, o arquitecto admite que “pode parecer um pouco excêntrico transformar um T3 num
T1”. O certo é que “o +1 [onde está o escritório] fez a
diferença; permitiu-me questionar a tipologia de uma
forma que se adapta muito bem a mim, e acho que
pode ser uma tipologia forte para o futuro”. Também
acreditamos que sim. ::
It was a 3 bedroom +1 convertible room home divided into too many rooms, out of date in terms of functionality and decoration, with old wallpaper, old carpet and dark wood. But it did have distinctive features.
Michael Miranda, an architecture graduate, immediately spotted the potential of this apartment, located
in a smart part of Boavista. He deconstructed it in order to transform it into a 1 bedroom + 1 convertible
room home of 160m2 which now offers spaciousness
and comfort suited to day-to-day living. From the profound refurbishment to the way in which the home is
lived in, is an example of the exercise of freedom.
The choice was made easy. This partner and creative
at Ding Dong - Arquitectura e Interiores began by immediately warming to the neighbourhood, “quiet yet,
near to everything” and the quality of the set of buildings, dating from the 1970s. The apartment itself “allowed for a layout that would suit me”, he emphasises.
The transformation carried out reveals pragmatism:
this one-bedroom home has very good reception areas, “with space where it is needed and efficiency where
it was previously lacking”, and a more private part of
the home which, although not large, “is very comfortable” and offers plenty of storage space.
If we ask Michael Miranda to identify his favourite space, the answer is “the living room, without a
doubt.” By creating this room in the largest bedroom
of the original apartment, he managed to create a spacious area with two fronts. It is here, that we find some
of the pieces that he most appreciates. And what if we
ask him to name one of his favourites? “The Carlo
Scarpa lamp, dating from the 1960s, is probably my
favourite”... The 1970s aesthetics, however, are what
most stand out in the decoration, yet it feels contemporary and discreet. In everything else, our host wanted
an ambience that was “as neutral as possible” although
punctuated by details with strong shapes and colours;
solutions that keep monotony at bay. An example is
the grille in the entrance hall, which influences the atmosphere of the living room. The creative designer explains, “it is clearly neo-plastic in design but, the materials used, brass, black oak, bronze mirror, glass with
linen, give it a very Seventies feel.”
When the visit is over, the architect admits that it
“might seem a bit eccentric to turn a three-bedroom
home into a one-bedroom home.” What is clear, however, is that “the additional room (where the study is)
made all the difference; it enabled me to question the
typology of the home in way that adapts very well to
me and, I think this might prove to be a strong layout
for the future.” We feel the same way. ::
