RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research is in the areas of computer vision, machine learning and music information retrieval. I am interested in applying machine learning
algorithms for modeling, tracking and understanding of human and object motion based on video as well as on the development of methodologies to
process and understand music information.

INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE
During the last 10 years I was directly involved in the design and deployment of several machine vision systems as well as on the design of computer
vision based products, project management and corporate management at different levels. The main accomplishments in designing custom machine
vision systems and computer vision based products are described as follows:
•
Machine vision: I was the engineer responsible for the design, selection and integration of the hardware components (camera, optics,
illumination, CPU, sensors, PLCs, cables, etc.) of the following machine vision systems that were deployed between 2004 and 2011:
inspection of welding quality using 4 GigE high resolution cameras led illumination, CPU and software (Águia Sistemas); plain glass
inspection using a high resolution line scan camera, CPU and software (Cebrace); automatic reading of vehicle identification number using
1 GigE high resolution camera, led illumination, industrial sensors and CPU (General Motors); automatic visualization of trim line using 1
fireware camera, CPU and software (Tetrapak); automatic inspection and measurement of electric motor stator gap using a high resolution
GigE camera, illumination, CPU and software (WEG); machine for automatic inspection of valve seats with 14 high resolution GigE
cameras, led illumination, CPU, HMI, belt conveyor, electric panel, PLC, sensors and rejection mechanism (Federal Mogul); automatic
inspection of caps and level of perfume containers with 3 high resolution firewire cameras, led illumination, CPU, PLC and software (O
Boticário).
•
License plate and container code reading gateway: I was directly involved in the design of a modular gateway for reading the frontal and
back license plane of trucks as well as the lateral, superior and back container code number. The gateway integrates up to 8 gigE cameras,
embedded processing, visible and IR illumination, magnetic loop sensors as well as the software that controls all equipment and performs
OCR. Eighteen gateways were deployed up to now (Brado Logistics, Portanave Port, Tupy, Suape Port, Marcon Group, Dry Port).
•
People counting solution: I was directly involved in the design of a people counting solution to retails and shopping malls that integrates lowcost cameras, local CPU for video processing and analytics, on-line quality of service monitoring and remote connection to a server that
performs data analysis and provides report visualization to the customers. More than 500 counting point were deployed up to now
(Boticário, Pernambucanas, C&A, Adidas, Nike, TIM, Hering, Magazine Luiza, etc.)
•
Other: Face recognition for access control into a building (COPEL).
