Mr Roebuck Head of School Cypress Football Squad An incredible number of children (75!) took part in Monday's football trials. It was wonderful to see so many children wanting to be active and sporty and represent their school - nearly half of Year 5 and more than half of Year 6! Mrs Hart, Mr Todd and I deliberated for a long time over who to include. The standard was very high, especially for Year 5, and we had to leave out a number of very talented players to try and get down to a squad of just 15. In the end we arrived at the following children for our squad: 6BEE- Zach (GK) Aaron-Donnae Khanel 6LAR- Alexandra Tanae Michael 6OAK- Kyle-Luke George Lucas Micah 5HORC – Christian Kehfai Lorik Laila 5SYC - Ruben P e a , M i nt a nd V e g e t a b l e S o up A healthy and filling addition to your child's packed lunch... Ingredients • 15ml vegetable oil • 250g onions, peeled and chopped • 150g leeks, trimmed and sliced • 100g celery, diced • 3 cloves garlic, crushed • 100g dried split peas, soaked overnight • 250g potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes • 2 litres water • 1 stock cube • 250g frozen peas • 10g fresh coriander leaves, chopped • 25g fresh mint, chopped Our first fixtures will be happening soon, and our match-day team of 7 plus 3 substitutes will be drawn from this squad for each game. Method 1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onions, leeks and celery. Cook slowly until they begin to soften. 2. Add the garlic, split peas, potatoes, water and stock cubes to the pan. Bring to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes. 3. Add the frozen peas and cook for 10 minutes, until the vegetables are soft and the split peas have dissolved. 4. Add the herbs and part or fully blend before serving. 5. Garnish with a little mint if desired and serve each portion of soup with a bread roll. A huge thank you and a well done to all the children who took part. Enjoy...
