Na esteira das correlações propostas por Roland Barthes “entre a palavra
e a sua vocalização”, coligidas no livro de ensaios The Rustle of Language,
Vera Cortês Agência de Arte concentra a sua selecção nos múltiplos discursos
entre a linguagem e sua expressão na arte contemporânea. Abrangendo
um amplo espectro de posições, — desde o político ao contemplativo —,
de diferentes media, — do vídeo à performance, à fotografia, desenho
e instalação —, os artistas e as obras expostas oferecem uma visão
generosa e panóptica do mundo.
Following Roland Barthes’ correlation between the word and its voicing, as
expressed in his essays The Rustle of Language, Vera Cortês Art Agency has
focused its selection in the multiple discourses relating to language and its
expression in contemporary art. Covering a wide range of positions, — from
political to contemplative —, of media, — from video and performance, to
drawing, photography and installation —, the artists and the works exhibited
offer a generous and panoptical worldview.

Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, nasceu
em Lisboa em 1987. Estudou na
Central Saint Martins (University of
the Arts London), em 2008. Vive e
trabalha em Londres e Lisboa.

Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, was born
in Lisbon, in 1987. He graduated in
Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins
(University of the Arts London), in
2008. He lives and works in London
and Lisbon.

de Alexandre Farto tem especial
relevância e impacto o trabalho
desenvolvido no contexto da street
art, quase sempre em intervenções
site specific, em edificios, ruinas,
armazens ou bairros sociais em
Moscovo, São Paulo, Lisboa, Los
Angeles, Bogotá, Beijing, Puglia and
Xangai, entre muitas outras.
Besides gallery and museum
exhibitions, the work developed in
the site-specific context of street
art is of particular relevance for
Alexandre Farto. It includes multiple
city-scale interventions in buildings,
bridges, warehouses and ruins in
Moscow, São Paulo, Lisbon, Los
Angeles, Bogotá, Beijing, Puglia and
Xangai, among many others.
DETANICO E LAIN
Angela Detanico (1974) e Rafael
Lain (1973) vivem e trabalham em
São Paulo e Paris. Seus trabalhos
foram apresentados em diversos
países, em instituições como
CCS Bard Hessel Museum (USA),
Jeu de Paume e Musée Zadkine
(França), Museu de Arte da
Pampulha (Brasil), Centro Galego
de Arte Contemporánea (Espanha),
ICC (Japão), Malba (Argentina),
Camberwell College of Arts
(Inglaterra), Württembergischer
Kunstverein (Alemanha) e
Optica (Canadá). Participaram
em diferentes exposições
internacionais como a 10ª Bienal
de la Havana, 3rd Media City Seoul,
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2006,
Medellín 07, 26ª e 28ª Bienais de
São Paulo e 8ª Bienal do Mercosul.
Em 2004, receberam o prêmio Nam
June Paik. Em 2007, representaram o
Brasil na 52ª Bienal de Veneza.

GABRIELA ALBERGARIA
Gabriela Albergaria (n. em 1965 em
Vale de Cambra, Portugal) vive e
trabalha em Lisboa e Nova Iorque.
Estudou na faculdade de Belas
Artes do Porto (1985-90) e foi artista
residente no programa internacional
da Kunstlerhaus Bethanien em
Berlim (2000-01.
Tem participado em exposições
individuais e colectivas nacional e
internacionalmente desde 1990.
Nos últimos anos GA tem usado a
fotografia, desenho, instalação e
escultura no desenvolvimento de
uma linha de trabalho que tem como
ponto de partida os jardins e a sua
história. Estas referencias sociais
e colectivas interligam-se com
memorias pessoais e subjectivas.
Os seus projectos foram mostrados
em vários locais destacando-se
a galeria Vera Cortês Art Agency,
em Lisboa, a galeria Vermelho
em São Paulo, Centre Culturel
Calouste Gulbenkian, Paris, França,
Kunsthalle Emden na Alemanha,
Vancouver Artgallery em Vancouver ,
Canadá, Centre d’art Contemporain
Villa Arson em Nice, França, Museu
de Arte Moderna de São Paulo,
Brazil.
O ultimo projecto é um livro
“Hither and Thither” resultado
de uma residência de artista no
Jardim Botânico da Universidade
de Oxford em associação ocm a
Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art
durante 2009/2010. Com o apoio da
Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

Gabriela Albergaria (b. 1965, in
Vale de Cambra, Portugal) lives
and works in Lisbon and New York.
Studied at the Fine Arts University
of Porto (1985-90) and was an
artist-in-residence at Kunstlerhaus
Bethanien, Berlin, Germany 2000/01.
She has been participating in
individual and group exhibitions
internationally since 1990.
She has used photography, drawing,
installations and sculpture in
developing a line of work that
takes gardens and their history as
a starting point. These social and
collective references intercross with
personal and subjective memoirs of
her intimate experiences.
Her projects were shown in several
places like, Vera Cortês, Art Agency
in Lisbon, Portugal, Galeria vermelho
in São Paulo, Brazil, Centre Culturel
Calouste Gulbenkian, Paris, France,
Kunsthalle Emden in Emden,
Germany, Vancouver Artgallery in
Vancouver, Canada, Centre d’art
Contemporain Villa Arson em Nice,
França, Museum of Modern Art in
São Paulo, Brazil.
The last project is an artist book
“Hither and Thither” after an artist
residency at The University of Oxford
Botanic Garden in association with
the Ruskin School of Drawing &
Fine Art.during 2009/2010. With the
support of the Calouste Gulbenkian
Foundation.
