Hello my name Is...
Activity 1 – Hi!
Objective
To practice introductions.
Procedure
1. Introduce yourself to the class saying “Hi, I’m (your name).”
2. Repeat “Hi, I’m (your name)”, then point to a S, and ask “And you?”
3. S replies “Hi, I’m (S’s name).”
4. S repeats “Hi, I’m (S’s name).”, then points to another S, and asks “And you?”
5. Continue this procedure until all Ss have introduced themselves.

Option A
Procedure
1. Introduce yourself to the class saying “Hi, I’m (your name).”
2. Ss walk around the class, introducing themselves to as many other Ss as possible. You can also join in.
Option B
Preparation
Bring a music CD to class.
Procedure
1. Play the music CD.
2. Ss walk around the class in silence.
3. Pause the music.
4. Ss introduce themselves to the S or Ss closest to them.
5. Play the music again and continue the activity.

Procedure
1. Ss stand in a circle.
2. Ss introduce themselves individually to the group and then ask the S on their left “And you?”
3. Continue the activity until all Ss have introduced themselves.

Objective
To practice introductions.
Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 01.
Procedure
1. Give a different number to each S. Keep the duplicate pack.
2. Say “Hello, my name’s (your name).”
3. Choose a number from the duplicate pack and show it. The S with this number (S1) goes to the front of
the class.
4. Repeat “Hello, my name’s (your name) and this is (S1’s name).”
5. S1 chooses a number from the pack and shows it. The S with this number (S2) goes to the front of the
class.
6. S1 repeats “Hello, my name’s (S1’s name) and this is (S2’s name).”
7. S1 goes back to their seat.
8. S2 chooses a number and the game continues until all Ss have introduced themselves and another S.

Procedure
1. Do steps 1-3.
2. S1 says “Hello, my name’s (“S1’s name), this is (your name).”
3. S1 then chooses a number from the pack and shows it. The S with this number (S2) goes to the front of
the class.
4. S1 stays at the front and S2 says “Hello, my name’s (S2’s name), this is (S1’s name), this is (your name)”
5. The Ss stay at the front, forming a line.
6. The game continues until all the Ss are at the front.
7. Encourage the other Ss to help a S who can’t remember the names.
Option B
Procedure
1. Divide the Ss into two teams A and B.
2. Draw two columns on the board A and B to keep score.
3. Choose a S from Team A to go the front.
4. Say “Hello, my name’s (your name) and this is (S’s name).”
5. Choose a S from Team B to go to the front of the class.
6. The S from Team A says “Hello, my name’s (S’s name) and this is (other S’s name).”
7. To win a point the S must say the whole sentence correctly including the other S’ name.
8. The S from Team A returns to their team.
9. The S from Team B stays at the front.
10. Choose another S from Team A to go to the front.
11. The S from Team B says “Hello, my name’s (S’s name) and this is (other S’s name).”
12. To win a point the S must say the whole sentence correctly including the other S’ name.
13. The S from Team B stands to the side.
14. Ss take turns until all of them have had a chance to win a point and all Ss are standing to the side.
15. The team with the most points wins.

Print and cut up enough copies of Student Page 02 to give one name card to each S.

Procedure
1. Give one name card to each S.
2. Ss stand in two lines (A and B), facing each other (see diagram).
3. Ss in line A practice the following conversation with Ss in line B:
A) Hi, I’m (name on the card).
B) Hello. My name’s (name on the card).
A) How do you spell that?
B) (S spells name on the card).
4. When you clap your hands, Ss in line A exchange name cards with Ss in line B.
5. Ss in line A all move one step to the right, facing the next S in line B.
6. One S at the end of line A will not have a partner so this S runs quickly to the beginning of line A, facing
the first S in line B.
7. Ss then practice the conversation with their new names and new partners.
8. Continue the activity until Ss return to their original partner.
9. Switch roles so that Ss in line A can spell the names.

Activity 04 – Bingo!
Objective
To practice the alphabet.
Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 03 with enough bingo cards to give one to each S.
Procedure
1. Give a bingo card to each S.
2. Say different letters of the alphabet.
3. Keep a record of the letters you say so you can check the winning card at the end.
4. Ss cross out the letter you say if the letter is on their card.
5. The first S to cross out all the letters on the card shouts out BINGO! and wins the game.

Option A
Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 03 with enough bingo cards to give one to each S.
Procedure
1. Do steps 1-4.
2. The first S to cross out all the letters in one line (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) shouts out BINGO!
and wins the game.
Note: To be able to play the game more than once, using the same cards, ask the Ss to cover the letters
(with coins, for example) instead of writing on them.

Activity 05 – New Names
Objective
To practice introductions.
Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 02 with enough name cards to give one to each S and one for yourself.
Procedure
1. Give a name card to each S and keep one for yourself.
2 . Show your card to a S and say “Hi, I’m (name on the card)”.
3. S looks at their name card and replies “Hello, my name’s (name on the card)”.
4. You then say “Nice to meet you, (name on S’s card)”.
5. S says “Nice to meet you, too, (name on your card)”.
6. Ss stand up and walk around in the room, introducing themselves to as many other Ss as possible, using
the model above.

Option B
Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 02 with enough name cards to give one to each S and one for yourself.
Procedure
1. Divide the Ss into two groups of equal number (If there’s an odd number of Ss, you join in).
2. The groups form two circles (circle A and B), one inside the other (see diagram).
3. Each S in circle A faces a S in circle B.
4. Do steps 1-5 of the activity (or 1-5 in Option A).
5. Ss introduce themselves to the S they are facing, using the model conversation.
6. When you clap your hands and call out CHANGE, Ss in circle B move to the left.
7. They then practice the conversation again with a different S in circle A.
8. Continue the activity.
9. When you clap your hands twice and call out ALL CHANGE, Ss in circle A exchange places with Ss in
circle B.
10. Continue the activity.

Preparation
Bring a light ball to class.
Print and cut up Student Page 02 to use if Ss already know each other.
Procedure
1. You and Ss stand in a circle.
2. Say “Hi, I’m (your name)”.
3. In unison, Ss say “Hello, (your name). How do you spell that?”
4. Spell your name.
5. In unison, Ss say “Nice to meet you, (your name).”
6. Say “Nice to meet you, too.”
7. Throw the ball to a S.
8. The S says “Hi, I’m (S’s name)”
9. The rest of the group repeat steps 3-6.
10. The S then throws the ball to another S and the game continues until all Ss have introduced
themselves.

Preparation
Print and cut up Student Page 04.
Procedure
1. Do steps 1-6.
2. Throw the ball to a S and say the name of another S in the circle, without looking at this S.
3. The S with the ball does steps 2-6 of the activity with the rest of the group.
4. The S then throws the ball to the S you named in step 2.
5. If the S can’t remember the name or throws the ball to the wrong person, draw one of the name cards
from Student Page 05.
6. The S then has to spell the name on the card correctly.
7. If the S misspells the name, they are out of the game.
8. Continue the activity.
Note: This activity can also be used as a warm-up or review activity in the next class.

Activity 07 – Writing: Words I know in English
Objective
To raise Ss awareness of their knowledge of English.
Preparation
Print and cut up enough copies of Student Page 05 to give one card to each S.
Prepare a list of English words used in your country to contribute to the activity, if necessary.
Procedure
1. Give each S a copy of Student Page 05.
2. Ss think about English words that are used in their own language or any English words they might
know.
3. Give Ss a time limit.
4. Ss write the English words on the paper until the time limit is up.
5. Ss share their words with the rest of the class when they finish.

Option A
Preparation

Preparation
Print and cut up enough copies of Student Page 05 to give one card to each S.
Prepare a list of English words used in your country to contribute to the activity, if necessary.
Procedure
1. Do steps 1-4.
2. Collect the papers when the time is up.
3. Choose some of the words and write them on the board.
4. Tell the Ss to find out what the words mean and bring their findings to the next class.
Note: You can do this activity individually, in pairs, in groups or in teams. You can also give prizes/points to
the Ss that come up with the most words.
Self Assessment - Performance and Enjoyment
Objective
To allow Ss to reflect on their performance and grade their enjoyment of the lesson.
Preparation
Print and cut up enough copies of Student Page 06 to give one card to each S.
Procedure
1. Ss evaluate how well they think they now know the content of the lesson and how confident they feel
with the new language, by choosing one of the three options.
2. Ss assess their enjoyment of the lesson – both online and in class – by giving a rating and also writing
comments, if appropriate.
Note: You can either tell the Ss that no one will read this self assessment – it is for their own use – or you
can ask them to hand it in. You can also write your own assessment of each S on the card and later compare
with the S’s self assessment.
