Word of welcome
Dears Friends and Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the historical city of Cracow. Cracow is not only one of
the best preserved Renaissance cities in Europe, but has also contributed significantly to the
development of modern medical science.
The EAU Central European Meeting (CEM) is therefore pleased to organise this outstanding
annual event in a centrally located venue. Under the auspices of the EAU Regional Office, the
Scientific Office and the International Relations Office, our concerted efforts help identify
future leaders and talents during the CEM, advancing our specialty in clinical and basic science
research.
This year’s meeting has an exceptional programme with state-of-the-art lectures, ESUT handson training courses, ESU courses, ESOU lectures and a line-up of poster and EAU highlight
sessions. The Young Urologists Competition provides a platform for young talents from each
country in a friendly competition, and we have prepared for this year a special social event.
Besides these new meeting features, opportunities for EAU fellowships, short visits and ESOU
visits will be highlighted. And as can be expected in regional meetings, participants will have
the chance to meet their colleagues, friends, experts and key opinion leaders from all over
Europe.
CEM has steadily attracted more participants over the years to become one of the main annual
meetings for urologists based in central and east Europe, providing an informative and
warm welcome to our younger colleagues and urologists as they embark on their career in
international urology.

Aims and Objectives
Laparoscopic procedures are continuously evolving in urology based on the increasing expertise
of urologic surgeons. This includes ablative procedures, such as radical nephrectomy as well
as reconstructive techniques, such as pyeloplasty. Some advanced procedures (i.e. radical
prostatectomy, radical cystectomy) have both, ablative and reconstructive steps. Since the number
of centres with laparoscopic expertise is still limited in Europe, laparoscopic training programmes
have become very important. Hands-on training courses at the pelvi-trainer represent one of the
main steps of such courses. Finally, all remaining questions can be answered and discussed with all
tutors including the demonstration of tips and tricks.
