Director Robert provided the nights Rotary information and concentrated on
the recent floods in Queensland and Carnarvon, and the various appeal that

Shelter box Australia has some 200 shelter boxes on stand by but little could
be achieved whilst water levels were still rising

The question was How much - how to – and when to – best help
The Club unanimously decided to contribute $10,000 towards the cause and
nominated Geoff and Wayne to decide where and how the funds should be
used

John Mitchell – was given a new IPad for Christmas – he returned it without even opening
the box

David – driving back from Albany for the meeting and arriving 5 minutes late

Don King – a prospecting member- not requiring a name badge as his shirts are
monogramed

Sec Doug – funded a triple christening – open bar – 100 guests – yet the bar bill was only
$300

Robert for carrying an obscene amount of money – which he assures us was all legal

Gordon - $1 for buying a new car – sedan

Zaneta $2 for buying a new car – Mercedes convertible

Lloyd for boasting his cricket club had won every game this year – they had only played one

John Rechichi – for visiting the mafia in Melbourne ( we won't go there)

Ron Thatcher for tell everyone he was working to hard

Geoff for volunteering to work in the food van and messing up the system

Colin R for complaining that there was no water in the van – finding a vessel – finding a
hose – finding a tap and then realising that you had to turn the vans pump on to get water
flow


David for causing the towing commodore to “Vanish”

Winston is also District
Chairman for PROBUS
In Western Australia, The first PROBUS club was started by the Rotary Club of Thornlie in 1982.
Thornlie PROBUS is still alive and well with 72 members
In total in Australia there are some 1200 clubs with a total of 180,000 members
PROBUS is, according to Winston, Rotary’s best Community project
They are
 Structured similar to Rotary Clubs

Meet 2 or 3 times a month

Meet in the mornings – usually 10.00 am till noon

Have

No Service obligations
Are cost effective – membership id $30 PA
Terrific for retirees
Provide great members benefits – both Physically and mentally

Are multi gender

Provide special interest groups – Dining- walking - social – holidays Etc
Start-up costs are approximately $800 and every Rotary Club is encourages to look at their
community and the advantages a PROBUS club could provide
Calories are those little beggars that get into your wardrobe at
night and sew your clothes tighter!
