Keywords. Mapping, Lichens, Mosses, Antarctic flower plants
The objective of this work was the to present a study about plant communities on icefree areas of Hennequin Point, eastern coast of Admiralty Bay, King George Island,
Antarctica. The study of started with the classification and description of the plant
communities based primarily at phytosociological and biodiversity data. The area was
mapped by using an Astech Promark II® DGPS, which is able to obtain a submetric precision
after post-processing with the Astech Solutions® software. The five plant communities were
described as following: 1. Lichens and moss cushions communities, 2. Moss carpets and
crustose lichens communities, 3. Emergent communities, 4. Deschampsia antarctica and
ornithocoprophilous lichens communities and Deschampsia Antarctica, mosses and lichens
communities. The plant communities were presented on a map in a 1:5000 scale containing
the community characterization and distribution.
