Message of Mercy
Jesus to St. Faustina
My daughter, be at peace; do as I tell
you. Your thoughts are untied to My
thoughts, so write whatever comes to
your mind. You are the secretary of My
mercy. I have chosen you for that office in this life
and the next life. That is how I want to be in spite of
all opposition they will give you. Know that My
choice will not change. (9)
Mensaje de la Divina Misericordia
Jesús a Santa Faustina
Te he elegido para
Mensagem da Divina Misericórdia
Jesus a Santa Faustina
Minha filha tenha paz, faça como lhe digo. Seus
pensamentos estão unidos aos meus, por isso
escreva tudo o que tem em mente. Você é a
fazer a você. Saiba que a minha vontade não
muda. (9)
From the Pastor’s Desk
This past week we celebrated our annual parish
carnival and with all my heart I want to thank Paul
Gerardi, our “Carnival Leader” together with Dennis
Bochichio and all the men from our various parish groups
together with the many women who helped work, set-up
and take down, that made it such a success! Thank you!
For the first time it was truly the Carnival of Corpus
Christi-Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and it was a
beautiful experience in family spirit and a willingness to
work together for the common good of our parish! Thank
you!
This parish carnival has given me some pause for
reflection. No doubt, one of the main purposes of the
Carnival is to help raise much needed funds for the parish
and we certainly need that extra financial help! (Some of
you may have noticed we have begun to put a new roof
on the Corpus Christi-Holy Rosary School building to the
tune of $501,000!!!) So, “yes” we need money.
However, money is not the most important thing! The
most important thing is that we witness as a Christian
Community; that we love one another, serve one another,
pray for one another and that we are a community of faith
that weekly comes together to worship and adore Christ,
the Lord in our Sunday Liturgy. We are a family of
different cultures and ethnic backgrounds and languages,
but which recognizes we have a common Father –God!
Just two weeks ago we celebrated the first
anniversary of our two churches coming together to form
a new parish. The unity of the churches is complete.
However, the question remains: “Have we really become
one?” or do we continue to live in parallel communities,
like strangers riding in the same elevator but having no
interest or relationship with one another? Being in the
same place or under the same roof does not make a parish
family and we are called to be a Christian Catholic
community of faith where people know one another and
pray together. Are we moving in this direction or are we
“fixed” in our attitudes and actions continuing to live in
parallel worlds? Here are some questions to ask
ourselves: During this past year have I met, spoken to and
enjoyed the company of someone from the other
church? (As a former parishioner of Corpus Christi have I
reached out to someone from Holy Rosary? As a former
parishioner of Holy Rosary have I reached out to
someone from Corpus Christi?) If we continue to live in
our separate communities, then we are not becoming
one.
Setting up and taking down the Carnival, it was
great to see members of the Brazilian Community, Anglo
community and Hispanic Community working together
to have a successful parish event. It was great to see
people and families from the different communities
enjoying the festivities each night. During the past year
the parish has had a number of events either at the Corpus
Christi location or the Holy Rosary location: processions,
The Feast of Mary Help of Christians, Don Bosco
Triduum, Brazilian festival in July, Wednesday Lenten
Soup Suppers and programs like Discovering Christ and
the Gospel of Luke. Can I say that I allowed myself to
take part in some of these parish events even if they took
place in “the other Church”, or did I just remain in my
own comfort zone instead of participating in the life of
my new parish of Corpus Christi-Our Lady of the
Rosary? On occasion, do I willingly participate in parish
prayer moments that may be bi or tri lingual? Am I trying
to make real the beauty and richness of the challenge
before us as we bring together so many different cultures
and languages: Italian, Spanish, American, Brazilian,
Polish (in the future!) Indian, Philippino and others?
We live in a world filled with divisions, hatred
and mistrust. Here, we have the opportunity to witness to
the world that faith in Jesus can bring different people
together in love and service and support of one another. I
believe we can meet the challenge and make it happen in
Port Chester/Rye Brook (I saw it at the Carnival!) Now
that the “bricks and mortar” of coming together is done
for the time being, are we willing to work to become one
in spirit and heart with each other? If I refuse to change
my heart, this won’t happen; but this is exactly what
Jesus is asking of us to do. What will be my (your)
response?
God bless you!
agradecerles a Paul Gerardi, nuestro "Líder Carnaval"
necesitamos ayuda financiera adicional!
¿Estoy tratando
