Regional Plan against Pain
Since 2009 we had a Regional Plan for Pain Control aplying nationl and
international guidelines.
The Plan is for Acute Pain, Chronic Pain and Delivery Pain.
The Regional Plan for Pain Control has a Coordinator.
A priority was
education of professionals
public information (campaigns, partnerships, patients Associations)
2013 this Plan was selected as a Good Practice in a national competition
(selected in the first group - eleven programs - in a total of 75)

Courses to all nurses and physicians in small groups in the place of work ( 3
Hospitals and 17 Community Health Centers)
362 physicians in hospitals and 151 Familiy Doctors;
899 nurses in hospitals and 501 in community.

Outcomes
Professionals are aware about pain evaluation and treatment,
pain impact, drugs and technical;

The power of Patients Associations
Here represented by Dr. Ivone Coutinho
- Social and community integration of diabetics and the protection of their rights;
- Encourage and promote education, prevention and scientific research in the scope
of diabetes;
-To enhance alert to Chonic Pain in diabetic persons;
- Information, support and capacity-building of individual patients;
- Help to deal with their conditions, including their social, psychological, and other
impacts.

Added Value
- Improving the dissemination of chronic disease control;
- Professionals and public know better what is Chronic Pain, his consequences
and that we can minimize this impact;
- Patients are alert to the need of treatment, to the prevention of risk factors

chronic pain;
- with screenings, it is possible to implement initiatives low cost, getting
volunteers among students.
