Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. BERNIE CUNNINGHAM Bernie is one of our most dedicated members and probably the oldest in our club. He joined the Wausau Noon Kiwanis Club in 1961 but shortly after transferred to our club. He was our President in 1973-1974 and Club Secretary, Treasurer, and Bulletin Editor for 10 years. He was awarded the George F. Hixson Fellowship for his outstanding service to the club and the community. Prior to retirement, Bernie was an educator for 42 years. His 34 years with the Wausau School District included nine years as the first principal of John Muir Middle School. He and his wife Alberta, also a retired educator, have two daughters. Bernie’s hobbies include traveling, collecting antiques, reading, and cross word puzzles. Bernie has been the Club’s Historian for many years. His favorite Kiwanis projects include the Popcorn Wagon and the Travel & Adventure series. He has served on many committees over the years and is currently one of our dependable House Committee members. GREAT JOB BERNIE! Club members singing Christmas carols with Bernie at Terrace Court December 15, 2005.
