Designer de produção de Game of Thrones em Portugal
Abril.2016 – A premiada designer de produção britânica Gemma Jackson vem a Portugal
conversar sobre o seu trabalho com profissionais de cinema e estudantes.
Gemma Jackson - que recentemente terminou a rodagem do filme “Knights of the Roundtable:
King Arthur”, do realizador Guy Ritchie e com actores como Jude Law e Erica Bana – é conhecida
pelo seu trabalho em “À Procura da Terra do Nunca”, com Johnny Depp e Kate Winslet (filme
que lhe valeu a nomeação ao Óscar de direcção artística), bem como pelo desenho e construção
dos sets das primeiras 3 temporadasde Game of Thrones. É, aliás, da sua autoria o desenho do
muito-ambicionado trono de ferro, bem como os sets do histórico episódio “The Rains of
Castamere”. Game of Thrones valeu-lhe o seu segundo Emmy – já tinha arrecadado um em 2008
com a mini-série “John Adams”.
Jackson estará em Portugal em Junho, para o evento Training Ground do FEST – Festival Novos
Realizadores | Novo Cinema – que todos os anos junta em Espinho cerca de quatro centenas de
participantes vindos de todo o mundo, bem como algumas das mais prestigiadas figuras da
sétima arte. Este ano está já confirmada a presença de Gareth Wiley (produtor de Woody Allen
em filmes como “Match Point” e “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”), Joe Walker (editor de “Sicario” e
“12 Anos Escravo”) e Garry Maddison (colorista de “O Cavaleiro das Trevas Renasce”).

Game of Thrones production designer Gemma Jackson at FEST Training Ground 2016
April.2016 – The awarded British production designer and art director Gemma Jackson will be
at FEST Training Ground in 2016 which will take place in Espinho, Portugal, between the 21st and
the 26th June, alongside FEST – New Directors| New Films Festival.
Gemma Jackson, who has worked on both television and film, went to art school and studied
painting and later she did a post-grad in theater design. She worked in theater for about a
decade and then her film career was launched as she scored a job as an art director on Neil
Jordan’s Mona Lisa (1986).
Having spent the bulk of her career in the film industry, she worked on films such as A Far Off
Place (1993), The Borrowers (1997), Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), and Finding Neverland (2004)
for which she was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Art Direction and for a BAFTA.
In 2008 Jackson worked as a production designer on the TV mini-series John Adams, which was
very successful and got her an Emmy award. She is also well-known for her work on Game of
Thrones on Seasons 1, 2 and 3. Jackson was responsible for designing, building, and dressing the
actual physical sets used in filming the series. For her work on the series she was awarded an
Emmy for outstanding art direction and an Art Directors Guild Award for excellence in
production design.
Jackson’s most recently seen design is the environment for the Sky Atlantic series Fortitude
(2015) for which she has recently been awarded a BAFTA nomination. She is now working on a
film about King Arthur, with schedule release for 2017, by director Guy Ritchie at Warner
Brothers.
FEST – Training Ground is an annual educational event where the public and upcoming
filmmakers and film students can attend workshops and masterclasses, lectured by film
industry’s professionals with acknowledged achievements. Jackson’s presence at Training
Ground will be an eye opener for people who never thought about breaking into the film
industry coming from different art backgrounds.
For this year’s editon it has also been confirmed the presence of Gareth Wiley (producer of Vicky
Cristina Barcelona), Paul Miller (producer of Prozac Nation), Scandar Copti (director of Ajami)
Gonçalo Galvão Teles (director of Gelo), among other names that will be announced in the
upcoming months and until the date of the event.
