This last weekend, August
29th and 30th, the Corinthians FC “Pride” U12 girls
of Grand Terrace won the
Brea Kickoff Classic Soccer Tournament. This was
only the second tournament
Pride has participated in.
The girls battled extreme
heat and played hard to win
all their games to advance to
the final. They beat the home
team, AC Brea, in a nail-biting championship game. At
the end of regulation game
time, the game was tied 11. The scored remained 1-1
after two five minute overtimes. The game went to a
shootout, where the Pride
won in dramatic fashion with
goalie, Lexi Accuar, making
two wonderful saves to win
the tournament. The coaching staff and parents are very
proud of our girls and would
like to congratulate them on
a wonderful tournament.

highest recognition.”
“This ballgame and public
tribute is a meaningful way of
expressing our gratitude and
saying a truly heartfelt ‘Thank
you’ to our police and fire professionals. We couldn’t live in
safety without them, and I encourage everyone to join me in
recognizing our first responders,” said Assemblyman Emmerson.
Senator Dutton agreed, stating “I consider it a privilege to
recognize the efforts of these
outstanding members of our
community. These men and
women in law enforcement and
fire protection, our friends and
family, have dedicated their
lives to providing safety and security for us and I am pleased
to honor them and to give our
community a chance to publicly acknowledge their contributions.”
“First Responders Night is
a fantastic opportunity for residents to show their support and
appreciation for the people on
the frontlines of public safety in
San Bernardino County,” Second District Supervisor Paul
Biane said.
A number of public safety
professionals were honored
by Assemblyman Emmerson,
Supervisor Biane and Senator
Dutton.
Officer Alex Blanco of the
Upland Police Department has
been a part of Upland PD for
5 years and joined the department’s SWAT team in September 2008. Alex was recognized
by his shift supervisor for his
exemplary performance in the
department and was lauded
for his outstanding observed
arrests, profiling of street and
outlaw motorcycle gangs, and
for his thorough processing of
crime scenes, particularly where
suspects were not known.
Deputy Audomero Moreno
of the San Bernardino County
Sheriff’s Department has been
with the SB County Sheriff’s
Department for almost 9 years
and has been recognized as a
standout in multi-jurisdictional
and agency crime sweeps and
operations. He is alert to crime
trends and diligent in his pursuit of criminal offenders. He
has served as a field training
officer, is a member of the Major Enforcement Team, and has
been assigned to Operations
Phoenix, Desert Heat, the Mobile Field Force, and the Amber
Alert task force.
Firefighter/Paramedic Chad

of the Technical Rescue Team.

a rescue demonstration, “The
Great Shake Out,” at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center.
Engineer Jeff Schneider’s of
the Upland Fire Department.
Jeff’s unselfish contributions
to the Upland Fire Department
and surrounding communities have been exceptional and
boundless. Jeff excels not only
as a team member, but also in
taking the lead in any assigned
projects such as ladder truck
training and certification, hazardous materials response, as
well as being instrumental in
outfitting new apparatus which
has allowed the department to
utilize their vehicles for public
service more quickly.
Paramedic/Firefighter Robert Martinez of the San Bernardino County Fire Department has been with the San
Bernardino County Fire Department since July of 2005 and
has been recently certified as a
“tiller-man” on Medic Truck
77 in south Fontana. Robert is
known for his easy-going personality, his calmness in the
face of adversity and his ability
to function in a highly professional manner on critical calls.
As an asset to the department,
Roberts works diligently to
teach paramedic trainees, help
with routine vehicle and station
maintenance, and contributes
to the department by routinely
identifying and completing
projects.
Officer Kellie Riley of Rancho Cucamonga CHP has been
a part of the California Highway Patrol since 2001, after
transferring from her first assignment in East Los Angeles
to the Rancho Cucamonga office. Kellie has continually led
her shift in overall enforcement
activity, arrests, and has been
frequently commended by her
supervisors for completing numerous complex investigations
and ensuring pursuits end in a
safe manner without injuries.

making many arrests and successfully investigating a variety
of crimes and incidents. Alex
serves as a Field Training Officer and was selected to serve as
one of the station’s prestigious
Multiple Enforcement Team
(MET) members just over a
year ago. He is considered the
MET Unit’s lead deputy and
not only works as a liaison
with city staff and other local
police agencies in identifying and combating graffiti and
gang-related vandalism, but
subsequently also re-wrote the
Neighborhood Watch Program
information pamphlet in Spanish to help gain more understanding and involvement from
members of the community.
Deputy Sheriff John Wilson
of Rancho Cucamonga Police
Department was hired on with
the San Bernardino County
Sheriff’s Department in 2001.
After completing his assignment at West Valley Detention
Center, John was assigned to
the Rancho Cucamonga Police
Station in 2004, where he has
worked assignments in Patrol,
Victoria Gardens Mall, FTO
and MET teams. John is currently assigned to the Crime
Free Multi-Housing program.
John is especially valued as
one of the Rancho Cucamonga
Station’s leading Field Training Officers and is often called
upon to lead trainees through
some of the more difficult training phases.
Officers Brad Guith and
Mike Bernholtz of the Fontana
Police Department are being
honored for their commendable
actions for bringing a quick and
safe conclusion to a violent and
dangerous domestic violence
situation. When Officers Guith
and Bernholtz are not busy
keeping the peace in Fontana,
they are diligently reaching out
to citizens of all ages through
quarterly neighborhood meetings, the annual Child’s Fair,
and Red Ribbon Week. Officers
Guith and Bernholtz’s bravery,
courageousness,
quick thinking

Does Your Cell Phone Cause Cancer?
By: Lori Abbott
Most people don’t think
twice when using a cell
phone, but the death of Sen.
Ted Kennedy (D-MA) from a
brain tumor has drawn more
attention to the possible risks.
A new cell phone industryfunded study on the issue is
soon to be released, but it’s
already being criticized as
flawed.
A report from the International EMF Collaborative
charges that the industry
study made a number of mistakes, including categorizing people who used cord-
less phones as unexposed
- although, like cell phones,
cordless phones emit microwave radiation - and failing
to include many types of
brain tumors.
Lloyd Morgan, one of the
Collaborative report’s authors, is a retired electronics
engineer from Berkeley who
developed a brain tumor in
1995, something his doctor
said was probably caused by
his work around electromagnetic fields.
“Bottom line is, cell
phones are causing brain tumors. If you look at the in-
dependent research, it’s absolutely clear. If you look at
the telecom industry-funded
research, it’s spun such that
it would appear that there are
no risks.”
Sen. Arlen Specter (DPA), who currently has a
brain tumor, is pushing for
Senate hearings next month.
Ellen Marks has already testified before Congress about
her husband’s brain cancer
case - and his heavy cell
phone use.
“My husband is the poster
boy for the cell phone brain tumor link. Unfortunately, Ted
Kennedy, about a week after
my husband was diagnosed,
had a seizure and was diagnosed with the same thing.”
Morgan says the report he
worked on offers recommendations for making cell phone
use safer, such as developing
better technologies, using
wired headsets and not carrying an active phone close
to your body. Entitled “Cellphones and Brain Tumors:
15 Reasons for Concern,
Science, Spin and the Truth
Behind Interphone,” can be
viewed online at www.radiationresearch.org.
Cordless phones, like cell
phones, cordless phones
emit microwave radiation.
Join Us to Learn About “The Great California Shakeout”
Senior Curator of Geological Sciences Kathleen Springer will present a lecture, “The
Great California ShakeOut,”
at the San Bernardino County
Museum at 2pm on Sunday,
September 20.
“This lecture will illustrate that our region straddles
the mother of all faults, the
mighty San Andreas Fault,”
said Springer. “This giant gash
that slices through California
is the boundary between two
of the largest tectonic plates
on the planet, which in turn
makes our area one of the most
geologically active regions in
North America.”
The San Andreas Fault is
the setting for the “Great California ShakeOut,” a statewide
disaster preparedness drill
that will take place on Thursday, October 15. A “ShakeOut” scenario–a hypothetical
earthquake designed by scientists to show what will happen when a major earthquake

Improving Energy Efficiency: Eco Friendly, Wallet Smart
(NAPSA)-Making
ecofriendly choices is not just an
investment in tomorrow; it is
also an investment in your financial health today. Becoming more energy efficient can
reduce your carbon footprint
and help lower your utility
bills-putting money back in
your pocket where you need it
most.
The average homeowner
spends more than $2,200 a year
on energy bills, according to the
U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)-and heating and
cooling can account for more
than 40 percent of that energy
use. To reduce these costs, consider the following:
¥ Adjust your thermostat.
By raising your thermostat
just a few degrees in mild temperatures and lowering it in
cooler temperatures, you can
help your heating and cooling
system work less to maintain
a comfortable indoor temperature. Programming your thermostat to accommodate your
family’s time away from home
and sleeping schedules will
also help to ensure your system is operating only when you
need it.
¥ Install a dehumidifier. Humidity can make the air feel
hotter and heavier in warm
weather. By removing the humidity, the air will feel drier
and cooler and you will be able
to rely less heavily on your
heating and cooling system to
make the air comfortable.
¥ Perform regular maintenance. Clean air filters and
make sure the areas around
your system are clear of obstructions. Something as simple as ensuring proper insulation can improve the efficiency
of your system by as much as
20 percent.
¥ Have your existing home
comfort system inspected and
serviced by a qualified technician. The technician will make
sure your system is working
properly and at peak efficiency.
A knowledgeable technician
will also be able to recommend
a new, more efficient replacement system, such as Energy
Star-qualified equipment or a
two-stage heating and cooling
system that offers two levels
of operation to improve energy
efficiency.
For example, York Affinity
air conditioners from Johnson
Controls use an industry-leading, two-stage scroll compressor design to operate at partial
capacity when conditions are
mild-about 80 percent of the
time. When temperatures rise
and maximum cooling is required, the unit automatically
(ARA) - A leaky, un-insulated garage door may not be
an obvious culprit in rising
monthly utility bills, but it’s
worth a second look if you
have an attached garage.
Replacing an older garage
door with a new, energy-efficient model can reduce energy
loss by up to 71 percent, according to a comparison study
conducted by Clopay Building
Products engineers.
Homeowners who purchase
an energy-efficient garage door
now through Dec. 31, 2010,
will not only save on their

may qualify for up to $1,500 in
federal tax credits. Visit www.

If your garage door is a
hold-over from the dark ages,
here are some things to look
for when making an upgrade:
* 2 inch-thick, three-layer
“sandwich” construction including environmentally safe,
chlorofluorocarbon-free
insulation layered between two
sheets of heavy-duty galvanized steel.
* R-value or U-factor - these

kicks into full capacity. This
results in a system that cycles
on and off less frequently, consuming less energy and maintaining more precise temperature settings.
¥ Save on taxes. Installing qualified, energy-efficient
equipment can mean a tax
credit of up to $1,500 for installation costs, thanks to the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

CA Schools Brace for Swine Flu: Closings Only a Worst-Case Scenario
With the number of H1N1
swine flu cases expected to increase as California students
go back to school this month,
the federal government has
told local officials to get ready,
but not to be too quick to close
schools. If the virus starts
to spread faster, schools are
urged to slow it by stressing
hand hygiene and other means,
keeping school closures as a
last resort.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says the state has been
working around the clock to
prepare for the coming flu season, but every Californian has
to take action.
“Keep yourself healthy.
Don’t infect others. Take precautions by washing your
hands, covering your cough
and staying home when you
are sick. Parents need to plan
for the kids to be home from
school.”
The federal guidelines also
urge schools to prepare takehome packets so students who
stay home with the flu can
keep learning, and to be ready
to do that on a larger scale if a
school is forced to shut down.
The governor says many
Californians view the virus as
no worse than the typical flu,
but he says history has shown
that flus such as this can spread
quickly or mutate.
“The H1N1 is unpredictable. Through this summer, we
have seen an average of one to
two Californians die each day
from it. And about 25 percent
of those who die had no preexisting health conditions.”
State health officials say the
H1N1 virus has the potential to
sicken as many as one in four
Californians. That’s more than
9 million people. A vaccine
aimed at H1N1 is expected to
be ready by mid-October.

pre-cycling, free-cycling, upcycling, down-cycling and ecycling.
Amy Hock with Metro
Waste Authority says these
green “cycles” can help you
save money, make for a healthier environment and be a good
teaching tool for children. For
instance, she explains, the
practice of not buying more
than you need is called “pre-
Cartoon
cycling.”
“Buy what you need and use
what you buy, that is a way of
pre-cycling - thinking before
you make a purchase. Freecycling is a term that is used
when you give items away instead of throwing them away.”
“Up-cycling” is creating
useful items from recycled
material. “Down-cycling” is
reusing a product for an alternative, lesser-quality purpose
to keep it out of the landfill;
and “E-cycling” refers to the
recycling of electronics. If the
terms are confusing, however,
Hock says all you really need
to keep in mind is the “3 R’s.”
“They just need to keep remembering three words - it’s
reduce, reuse and recycle - and
those three words can go a
very long way.”
Hock says any of these
“cycles” can be used at home,
school, office or wherever you
find yourself, to keep material
out of landfills.

Hey, Who’s in Charge Here?
The job of parenting doesn’t
seem to have much in common with being a professional baseball pitcher or
golfer.
But a child psychology
expert with the University of
Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health says
parents—and their children-could be a lot happier if they
focused on the two things
that make those professional
athletes successful: consistency and discipline.
“One of the things parents struggle with on a daily
basis is not being in charge,”
says Dr. Katie Watermolen,
an assistant professor of
psychiatry at UW School of
Medicine and Public Health.
“And the one thing I always
tell parents is not to be afraid
to be in charge--set consistent limits, establish clear
boundaries and spell out
what the consequences will
be if the rules are broken.”
Unfortunately, as any
parent can tell you, children
don’t often make the process
easy. Whether it’s a toddler,
‘tween or high school senior,
children will always try to
push boundaries.
“What I see with children
of all ages, is that somewhere
along the way, the parents
have lost control. Their
roles as parents have been
taken over by the children
or the children have come to
believe that they should be
on equal footing with their
mother and father,” says Dr.
Watermolen, who never hesitates to remind the adults:
“You’re the parent. Don’t be
afraid to be the parent.”
Dr. Watermolen is the first
to acknowledge that taking
charge can be challenging,
especially if the parent has
allowed consistent discipline
to slide and chaos to reign.
She advises parents faced
with re-establishing authority to be prepared for temper
tantrums, and, worse, for
being told that they’re hated
and the worst parent in the
entire world.
It’s okay, says Dr. Watermolen. It’s all part of the
sometimes difficult process.
“Work on being extremely clear and concise about
the rules, and what the specific consequences will be
if those rules are broken.
Sit down with your children
and talk to them. Write the
rules down if you have to—
just be sure they’re clear and
that you follow through on

museum will also be open on

Visitors will enjoy special
exhibits as well as displays of
specimens and artifacts that interpret local history, anthropology, geology, paleontology, and
biological sciences in regional
context. Special exhibits are
“Gadgets and Gizmos: inventing the modern world” and “The

The Exploration Station live
animal gallery will be open

and caboose, mining and lumbering equipment, heritage orange groves, and sculpture.
From 3 to 4:30pm on Sunday,
the San Bernardino Symphony
Trio will perform in the Hall of
Geological Wonders amphitheatre. Comprised of concertmaster Todor Pelev, principal cellist Ana Marie Maldonado and
violinist Tom Sender, the trio
will play a selection of engaging
musical pieces ranging from the
Baroque era to the 20th cen-
tury.
Ana Marie Maldonado of
Fontana, who leads the trio,
teaches at CSUSB, Cal Poly Pomona, Chaffey College and Cal
Baptist University. She is also
a member of the Loma Linda
Lyric Orchestra.
Todor Pelev, who became
a Concertmaster for the San
Bernardino Symphony in 1993,
teaches at Pomona College, Cal
Baptist University, and Idyllwild
Arts. He serves as the principal
violinist for The Pageant of the
Masters Orchestra, and has
performed as a soloist internationally as well as throughout
Southern California.
Violinist Tom Sender of Los
Angeles, who joined the San
Bernardino Symphony in 2003,
them. Children learn very
quickly where the cracks in
the discipline are, and will
use that to their advantage
to get their way.”
Some parents worry that
there’s a risk in being too
strict--that they’ll stifle
their child’s individuality by
exercising too much control.
Dr. Watermolen says the
best strategy to avoid that
scenario begins with determining what is developmentally realistic to expect from
children when it comes to
discipline and control. Doing so can also help parents
avoid the kinds of situations
that often lead to a loss of
parental control and frustration.
“If a child can’t sit still
for an hour at home, there
shouldn’t be an expectation that they can sit still
for an hour in a public setting, like a restaurant,” she
notes. “Likewise, if a child
doesn’t behave at the dinner
table at home because they
are not expected to, parents
should not take children to
restaurants and expect good
manners. Children need to
learn appropriate behavior
at home, before they can be
expected to demonstrate this

behavior in public.”
Child psychiatry experts
can often be a good resource
for parents to help determine
how much responsibility
they can expect from their
children, and when they
should be offering more.
And parents should remember to have realistic
expectations for themselves,
too.
“As a parent, you’re going
to make mistakes,” says Dr.
Watermolen. “I tell parents
not to beat themselves up
when they try to make these
decisions about control and
discipline, because there
isn’t any right or wrong answer. That’s one of the most
wonderful and scary things
about being a parent--there
is no rule book.”

Grand Terrace Shows Camera Payment Deficit
By: Helena Mitchell
Staff Writer
Red-light cameras were
installed at two intersections in Grand Terrace nearly
two years ago by a company
called Redflex. The company
was not paid one payment in
those two years. The cameras
were installed at Mount Vernon and Barton Road as well
as Michigan Avenue and Barton Road.
As reported in the Sun
newspaper the reason for this
was that there were complications in how the court processed the tickets. In addition
to this problem, until recently
the city was unaware of how
much they owed the company because of the multiple
ways that the bills and ticket
revenues get split up. As reported in the Sun newspaper,
Bernie Simon, acting city
manager and finance director
said “That money is split up
so many ways, it’s difficult to
trace.”
On average Redflex bills the
city $6,000 a month for each
intersection, however the city’s
contract with the company is
set up so that they do not have
to pay more than they receive
in ticket revenues. The costneutral contract between the
city and Redflex runs through
2012.
The city recently learned
that they were not putting
away enough money to pay the
company. With ticket revenues
amounting to $141,520 from
October 2007 to May, the city
only put away $87,400, which
leaves an additional $54,120
that is needed. The city’s traffic reserve of $25,000 can help
cushion the deficit; however,
nearly $30,000 still needs to
be made up. The city says that
some of the money might have
been used for street signs and
to pay some of the contract
with the Sheriff’s Department
for law-enforcement services,
said the Sun newspaper.
The city recently agreed to
pay Redflex the $87,400 and
examine what exactly happened to the $30,000. City officials requested a record of all
red-light fines. The company
agreed to give the city some
time to sort everything out.
The council is scheduled to go
over the issue again in about
two weeks.

Empty ink jet cartridges
are often a hassle when trying
to dispose of them. However,
for every empty ink jet cartridge dropped off at the Terrace View office, the school
receives money back for recycling them. All monies collected from this fundraiser
will help pay for field trip admissions and transportation.
Another way to help Terrace View out is by using your

Donated new or gently used
books are greatly appreciated and go to good use in the
school library. Books are also
given to students and used as
incentives to learn.
Capri Sun pouches are also
a way for Terrace View to accumulate funds. The school
earns 2¢ for each pouch. All

Chuck Berry and Little Richard Show How It All Began
By: Jules E. Beuck and
Rose Botkin-Beuck
Entertainment Writers
It has been said that the
beginning of Rock and Roll
dates back to 1955. Two of
the pioneers that were around
to create and mold Rock and
Roll in those days were Little
Richard and Chuck Berry.
They influenced such notables as The Beatles, Rolling
Stones, Led Zepplin and everyone who came after them.
Now in their seventies, these
pioneers of Rock and Roll
are still touring and showing where it all came from.
On August 27th it was at San
Manuel Indian Bingo and
Casino.
Opening the show was
Little Richard. The curtain
opened to show Richard sitting at the piano backed by
his band. The band started
into an instrumental that
Richard cheered and clapped
along to. He followed that
with a rollicking rendition of
“Good Golly Miss Molly.”
Other famous Little Richard tunes he performed included “Keep A-Knockin’,”
“Slippin’
And
Slidin’,”
“Long Tall Sally” and “Jenny
Jenny.” He also covered other artists’ tunes such as Fats
Domino’s “Blueberry Hill”
and “Larry Walker’s “Boney

Maronie.”
He did not seem to care if
the lyrics were right but his
piano playing was as vibrant
as ever. At one point he asked
for women from the audience
to come on stage, “I want
juicy ones.” He had them
dance as the band performed
behind them. One woman got
so carried away she fell on
stage but was OK.
Chuck Berry closed the
show and performed what
must be considered an abbreviated set which is not
uncommon for him. Still, he
performed such classics as
“Nadine (Is That You),” “Roll
Over Beethoven,” “You Never Can Tell,” “School Days”
and of course “Johnny B
Goode.” He also performed a
little ditty with many double
entendres.
During his set people
were dancing in the aisles.
One group of people started
dancing around the Yuhaviatam room in a line as Berry
played.
Not to be outdone by Little
Richard, Berry also invited
women from the audience
to join him on stage. They
danced while he walked

around the stage performing
an extended guitar solo.
Little Richard gave the
longer and more energetic
show but both performers
received multiple standing
ovations from the near capacity crowd.
Upcoming shows at San
Manuel include comedian

Diabetic Patients Can Prevent Nerve Pain
(ARA) - A common complication of diabetes is the development of nerve damage,
also known as diabetic nerve
pain. This damage affects the
nerves that allow patients to
feel sensations such as numbness and debilitating pain also called neuropathy.
More than 20 million people
have diabetes, according to the
American Diabetes Association. By the end of the decade,
this number is expected to rise
dramatically. When high blood
sugar levels damage nerves,
diabetic neuropathy can occur
and eventually 40 to 60 percent of diabetics will develop

diabetic nerve pain.
Mostly it affects the hands
and feet, with mild to severe
numbness, and sharp pain like
pins and needles. Limbs feel
alternately burning hot and
icy cold, accompanied by pain
and muscle fatigue.
Treating diabetes may
halt progression and improve
symptoms of the nerve pain,
but recovery is slow. The painful sensations of diabetic nerve
pain may become so severe it
can lead to depression in some
patients.
This chronic painful condition is often puzzling and
frustrating for patients and
physicians, as it is difficult to

diagnose and seems to respond
poorly to standard pain therapies. Countless people with
diabetes have suffered from
nerve pain for years.
Diabetic neuropathy sufferer Ron Morrison developed
so much discomfort from his
condition in his legs and feet
that he was, “seriously shopping for a wheelchair because
it was becoming too difficult
to stand and walk,” he says. He
began using a topical ointment
called Neuragen that provided
instantaneous relief from the
burning sensation in his feet.
“It has returned quality back
to my life,” he says.
“I was introduced to a wonderful new product at my local pharmacy, Neuragen, that
provided instantaneous relief
from this burning sensation in
my feet and have been using
this product ever since. It has
returned quality back to my
life.”
In clinical trials, Neuragen
provided rapid and effective
pain relief without significant
side effects. It has been recommended by health care professionals in the United States and
Canada since 1996 for treatments of chronic pain associated with a variety of conditions.
Good glucose control can
also help control diabetic neuropathy along with a balanced
diet, rich in fiber, regular physical activity and limiting alcohol
consumption.

Things are going a little
more smoothly at the Senior
Center! In August we had a
very good program on Fall
Prevention by Sally McGuire.
Few of us at the center have not
fallen . . . it seems to be a fact
of life if you live long enough.
We also had Operation Medicine Cabinet which allowed
many people to dispose of outdated or unused medications
without adding to contamination of our water supply. We
will try to get this again next
year. All in all, a really very
good day.
Coming on September 11th
we will have another male vocalist, Dan Damon. He is also
appearing in a play on December 5th and 6th in Calimesa.
We will have flyers at his performance in September.
Also, on September 11th we
are going to try a “Good Stuf
Day” since we don’t have our
Good Stuf Table. So, if you
have items you wish to contribute, please bring them on
Thursday afternoon before 3 or
Friday morning. The sale will
be from 8:30 until 3:00 except
that we will close the sale for
our program from 10 to 11. We
are going to see if this works or
if a different day would be better. It has to be on a day when
we have nothing scheduled for
our Card Room.
We are also trying a nurse
provided by Family Services
Association. A nurse will be
in the Card Room on the second Monday each month from
8:30 to 11:30. If you wish to
know more about this, call
951-369-8036. Flyers will be
available at the Senior Center.
Don’t forget: Our monthly
programs are always on the
SECOND Friday each month
and always at 9:30 for social
and 10 o’clock for the program.
Lunch is served at 11:30
each day. The requested donation for those 60 and over is
$3.00 and the charge is $5.00
for those under 60. We always
celebrate birthdays on the
third Wednesday with Birthday Cakes courtesy Emeritus

NOTICE OF PETITION TO
ADMINISTER ESTATE OF:
Niva Mildred Garner,
deceased
CASE NO. PROPS 0900614
To all heirs, beneficiaries,
creditors, contingent creditors, and persons who may
otherwise be interested in the
WILL or estate, or both of Niva
Mildred Garner, deceased.
A PETITION FOR PROBATE
has been filed by Raymond
Hughes in the Superior Court
of California, County of SAN
BERNARDINO.
THE PETITION FOR PROBATE requests that Raymond Hughes be appointed
as personal representative to
administer the estate of the
decedent.
THE PETITION requests authority to administer the estate under the Independent
Administration of Estates
Act. (This authority will allow
the personal representative
to take many actions without obtaining court approval.
Before taking certain very
important actions, however,
the personal representative
will be required to give notice
to interested persons unless
they have waived notice or
consented to the proposed
action.) The independent administration authority will be
granted unless an interested
person files an objection to
the petition and shows good
cause why the court should
not grant the authority.
A HEARING on the petition
will be held on 10/13/09 at
9:00AM in Dept. 34 located at
303 West Third Street
San Bernardino, CA 92415
IF YOU OBJECT to the granting of the petition, you should
appear at the hearing and
state your objections or file
written objections with the
court before the hearing. Your
appearance may be in person
or by your attorney.
IF YOU ARE A CREDITOR
or a contingent creditor of the
deceased, you must file your
claim with the court and mail
a copy to the personal representative appointed by the
court within four months from
the date of first issuance of
letters as provided in Probate
Code section 9100. The time
for filing claims will not expire
before four months from the
hearing date noticed above.
YOU MAY EXAMINE the file
kept by the court. If you are
a person interested in the
estate, you may file with the
court a Request for Special
Notice (form DE-154) of the
filing of an inventory and appraisal of estate assets or of
any petition or account as
provided in Probate Code
Section 1250. A Request for
Special Notice form is available from the court clerk.
Attorney for petitioner:
