Objectivos da unidade curricular e competências a desenvolver:
A História da Medicina e História da Medicina Dentária é a área da Medicina
Dentária que tem por objectivo o estudo da História da Medicina, da Medicina
Dentária, e da Cirurgia utilizando para tal factos, documentos e provas na
natureza e no meio ambiente que rodeou a evolução e a vida da espécie
Humana. Estas informações chegam à actualidade até de livros e textos
elaborados e copiados ao longo dos séculos. Este estudo está também
fundamentado em referências e achados que a arqueologia nos forneceu ao
longo dos tempos e que ainda hoje são memórias vivas do exercício da
Medicina. A História da Medicina será tratada e apresentada com a mesma
honestidade, o mesmo rigor de método e espírito científico, fundamentais para
que os estudantes de uma área da Medicina Humana que é a Medicina
Dentária adquiram conhecimentos básicos sobre a evolução do saber médico
através dos tempos, dos seus protagonistas e respectivas práticas,
conhecimentos e conceitos.
Objectives of the curricular unit and competences to be developed:
The History of the History of Medicine and Dentistry is the field of dentistry that
focuses on the study of the History of Medicine, Dental Medicine and Surgery
for using such facts, documents and evidence on the nature and the
environment surrounding the evolution and life of the human species. This
information comes to the timeliness of books and texts written and copied over
the centuries. This study is also based on references and archaeological
findings that have provided over time and which are still vivid memories of
medical practice. The History of Medicine will be treated and presented with the
same honesty, the same rigorous scientific method and spirit, essential for
students from one area of Human Medicine and Dentistry which is to acquire
basic knowledge about the evolution of medical knowledge through the ages, its
actors and their practices, knowledge and concepts

1 – Introdução ao estudo da História da Medicina e da Medicina Dentária em
Portugal e no mundo;
2 – Objectivos do estudo da História da Medicina e da História da Medicina
Dentária;
3 – A medicina pré-histórica;
4 – A medicina instintiva, a medicina empírica, a medicina religiosa e a
medicina mágica;
5 – A Estela de Hammurabi (séc. XVIII a.C.);
6 – A medicina científica e suas origens. Escolas médicas e filosóficas da
antiguidade;
7 – Hipócrates e a medicina Hipocrática;
8 – A medicina pós-hipocrática;
9 – A evolução da anatomia. A evolução do saber e da prática cirúrgica. A
evolução dos instrumentos cirúrgicos. A evolução das ideias médicas e
cirúrgicas;
10 – A história da medicina, da cirurgia e da medicina dentária do séc. II ao XV;
11 - A história da medicina, da cirurgia e da medicina dentária do séc. XVI ao
XVII;
12 - A história da medicina, da cirurgia e da medicina dentária do séc. XVIII ao
XIX;
13 - A história da medicina, da cirurgia e da medicina dentária a partir do séc.
XX;
Syllabus:
1 - Introduction to the history of medicine and dentistry in Portugal and
worldwide;
2 - Objectives of the study of medical history and the history of dentistry;
3 - The prehistoric medicine;
4 - The instinctive medicine, empirical medicine, medicine, religious and
magical medicine;
5 - The stele of Hammurabi (XVIII BC) and its importance for medicine;
6 - Scientific medicine and its origins. Medical and philosophical schools of
antiquity;
7 - Hippocrates and Hippocratic medicine;
8 - The post-Hippocratic medicine;
9 - Evolution of anatomy. The evolution of knowledge and practice of surgery.
The evolution of surgical; instruments. The evolution of medical ideas and
surgical;
10 - The history of medicine, surgery and dentistry century. II to XV;
11 - The history of medicine, surgery and dentistry century. XVI to XVII;
12 - The history of medicine, surgery and dentistry century. The eighteenth
century;
13 - The history of medicine, surgery and dental medicine from the century. XX.
Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os

a) AVALIAÇÃO CONTÍNUA (AC) 40%

•Atitude do aluno na sala;
•Participação no desenvolvimento das aulas;
•Dedicação continuada à disciplina;
30% Trabalho de monografia
b) AVALIAÇÃO TEÓRICA (AT) VALOR DE 60%
Se faltar ou obtiver <10 valores não obtém aprovação devendo efectuar exame
final.
A prova será constituída por 30 questões de escolha múltipla, 10 de resposta
directa e 1 de desenvolvimento.
Avaliação Final (AF) = Avaliação Contínua (AC) + Avaliação Teórica (AT)
Se obtiver na AF <10 valores, ou ultrapassarem o número legal de faltas, não
aprovam na área disciplinar.
B) EXAME FINA
Exame final é obrigatório para quem não obteve aprovação na avaliação final.
A prova será constituída por 30 questões de escolha múltipla, 10 de resposta
directa e 1 de desenvolvimento.
COTAÇÃO MÍNIMA PARA APROVAÇÃO NO EXAME FINAL 10 VALORES
O Exame de Recurso e o Exame para Melhoria de Classificação será
constituído por uma Prova Teórica e por uma Prova Oral

• Participation in the development of lessons;
• Continued Dedication to the discipline;

Thesis work.
b) EVALUATION THEORY (AT) 60% VALUE
If you miss or get <10 points does not obtain approval should make the final
exam.
The proof will consist of 30 multiple choice questions, 10 a direct response and
1 development.
Final Assessment (FA) = Continuous Assessment (CA) + Evaluation Theory
(AT)
If you get in the FA <10 values, or exceed the legal number of faults, do not
approve of the subject area.
B) FINAL EXAM
Final exam is mandatory for anyone who has not obtained a pass at the end.
The proof will consist of 30 multiple choice questions, 10 a direct response and
1 development. MINIMUM PRICE FOR ADOPTION IN FINAL EXAM 10
VALUES.
The Final Exam and Review for Improvement Rating will consist of both a
theoretical and an oral exam.

A abordagem dos temas e das matérias, assim como, a envolvência dos
discentes na execução de trabalhos relacionados com a História da Medicina e
da Medicina Dentária fará despertar a consciência dos futuros Médicos
Dentistas a uma abordagem do saber e postura médica como algo que foi
evoluindo e transformando ao longo dos séculos chegando até nós como um
legado a transmitir e que naturalmente irá evoluir ou retroceder nos tempos
futuros.
Teaching methodologies (including evaluation):
The approach of the themes and materials, as well as the involvement of
students in carrying out work related to the History of Medicine and Dentistry
will be raising awareness among future dentists to approach knowledge and
medical posture as something that has evolved and turning over the centuries
came to us as a legacy to pass and that will naturally evolve in times to come or
go back.
