A cozinha, designada de ‘camouflage’ e feita pela Eternit,
foi desenhada pelos destilat. O design da mesa de jantar
'4tothefloor', em carvalho e revestida a linóleo, é também da
autoria dos destilat. Cadeiras Flow da MDF Italia e duas
cadeiras antigas da Walter Knoll.
The kitchen called ‘camouflage’ and made by Eternit, is
designed by destilat. The dining table, called ‘4tothefloor’, is
also by destilat: it’s an oak table covered with linoleum. Flow
chairs by MDF Italia and two old chairs from Walter Knoll.

É num edifício em Viena, construído na viragem do século, que encontramos este elegante e amplo apartamento, restaurado pelo estúdio
destilat, e convertido na casa de um casal com dois filhos pequenos.
Preservando a sua estrutura antiga, foram efectuadas algumas alterações à tipologia original, adaptando-a às exigências actuais de uma família moderna. São disso exemplo o quarto de banho, fruto da união do
antigo guarda-fatos com uma parte do corredor e transformado numa
generosa área de wellness com sauna incluída; a nova cozinha que se inseriu na zona da sala, cedendo o seu anterior espaço a um quarto extra
para as crianças; e ainda o quarto do casal, aumentado substancialmente graças à integração de uma pequena sala adjacente, agora preenchida
por armários embutidos cobertos por enormes cortinas.
Substituindo portas e paredes em algumas divisões, e conferindo
uma agradável sensação de suavidade e conforto a todo o apartamento, as cortinas atribuem uma natural fluidez aos 130 metros quadrados
que nos rodeiam: veja-se o caso, mais notório, da remoção da parede
que separa o quarto de banho da entrada e substituída por uma vasta
cortina que acompanha todo o corredor até à sala.
De sublinhar também o visível despojamento – contido e nas proporções certas, para não comprometer o conforto nem retirar a calidez
aos espaços – que imediatamente se denota e se traduz numa atmosfera fresca e leve, reforçada pela dominância das tonalidades neutras que
contrastam com subtis e pontuais apontamentos de cores mais vivas.
“Acreditamos que o facto de nos termos restringido a um design
e um conceito cromático discretos realça a beleza deste apartamento
tipicamente vienense, com os seus tectos trabalhados e azulejos originais em cimento”, comenta Harald Hatschenberger dos destilat.
A máxima ‘menos é mais’ aplica-se na perfeição à personalidade
desta casa, desprovida de qualquer excesso e que espelha bem o estilo
de vida dos seus proprietários. Foi desejo do casal dotá-la de peças de
mobiliário contemporâneo, resultando numa harmoniosa convivência
entre elementos restaurados que recuperam a história do edifício e
uma decoração moderna, assumidamente minimalista.
In a turn-of-the-century building in Vienna, we discover this elegant
and spacious apartment, refurbished by the destilat studio and transformed into a home for a couple with two young children.
Maintaining its original structure, only some alterations to the layout were carried out, so as to adapt to the needs of a modern family.
Some examples of these modifications can be seen in the bathroom,
which was created from the union of the old wardrobe with part of
the corridor, thus transforming it into a generous wellness area complete with sauna; the new kitchen which is now found in the living
room area, with the original kitchen space having been converted into
a spare room for the children, as well as the master bedroom, which
was substantially enlarged through the annexation of a small adjacent
room, now lined with fitted wardrobes concealed by enormous curtains.
Curtains have substituted doors and walls in some of the rooms, bestowing an agreeable sensation of softness and comfort throughout the
apartment, as well as suggesting a feeling of natural fluidity throughout the apartment’s 130 square metres. The most noticeable example
of this is the removal of the wall that separated the bathroom from the
entrance and which was substituted by a vast curtain that runs along
the whole corridor until the living room.
Another of the highlights is the visible restraint – which is carefully
controlled and applied in the correct proportions, so as not to compromise comfort nor strip the spaces of their warmth – and this is immediately palpable in the fresh and light atmosphere, reinforced by the
dominance of neutral tones that contrast with the subtle and discerningly-chosen details in livelier colours.
“We think that the restriction to very low-key design and colour
concept accentuates the beauty of the typical Viennese apartment with
the ornamented ceilings and the original cement tiles”, states Harald
Hatschenberger from destilat.
The motto ‘less is more’ is perfectly suited to the character of this
home, which is devoid of any excess and which skillfully reflects the
lifestyles of the owners. The couple also wished to furnish it with contemporary pieces of furniture, establishing a stimulating harmony between the restored features that revive the history of the building and
its modern and proudly minimalist decoration.
