Day 34 - Olympic Torch Bulletin Board SPECIAL OPERATION ON FERNANDO DE NORONHA This Sunday, 5 June, the Olympic Flame paid a visit to the archipelagoof Fernando de Noronha and its celebrated beaches. · After flying over the island, theOlympic Flame was greeted on the Suestebeach by a team of biologists from the Tamar Project. Environmental inspectorGilvanio da Silva, born and raised on the island, carried the Olympic Torchalong the deserted beach in the company of two couple of turtles, one green andone hawksbill. · "They can survive out of thewater for weeks. They are real combat tanks, and only need hydrating andprotection from the sun," said biologist Felipe Bortolon. The TamarProject has already catalogued a thousand green turtles and 573 hawksbill sea turtles in Noronha. The beachis an important feeding ground for the species, and scientists recentlyobserved turtles using the locality for breeding. · On leaving the Sueste beach, the Olympic Flame headed for the port to board abarge and visit the island’s dolphin population. Torchbearer ZairaMatheus carried the torch on the prow of the barge, and was accompanied byover 50 dolphins swimming between the coastal water and open seas of thesmaller islands in the region. · “It is difficult to choosewhat is most beautiful in the seas off Fernando de Noronha. But the mostspecial moment is when you are diving and the dolphins appear. They swim byyour side, look into your eyes and seem to be giving you permission to be here.It’s incredible,” said Gilvanio, a specialist in underwater photography who hasbeen living on the island since 1999. · On Cacimbabeach, the Olympic Torch was carried by triathlete and radio broadcaster, Thania Brito Pessoa Corredora. “It is anenormous privilege to be here today,” she said. · Unfortunately the weather conditions ruledout crossing from Cacimba to Sancho beach in a Hawaiian canoe, butthe Olympic Flame was taken by boat from the Sancho beach, carried by surfer,Patrick TambergAmarante. · “I love Noronha and have a specialrelationship with this place and the people here. I brought my daughter alongwith me. As someone who loves to work in sport, I am getting a taste of whatit’s like to be an athlete. This experience is really special,” said TV Globosports reporter Carol Barcellos, presenter of the Planeta Extremo programme, who carried the Olympic Torch along thebeach from the fort to Vila do Remédios. · “This is a special moment for mebecause my family has been living on Noronha for almost 100 years. My fatherarrived here in 1916, and today is my father’s birthday,” said Luis Eduardo Nunes,who carried the Olympic Torch along the shortest road link in Brazil, crossing Fernandode Noronha. · Ademir Rogerio, a resident of Noronhafor 28 years, was the last torchbearer of the day. “I am an athlete, and likeany athlete, when I see the pictures of the Olympic Games on TV, I want to bethere. Now I am a part of it, representing this island that I love so much,” hesaid, very moved. · The day on Fernando de Noronha endedwith a celebration bringing together all the 13 torchbearers who had run withthe Olympic Torch on the archipelago. Broadcasters Não Detentores de Direitos (Non -RHBs): Os Non -RHBs podem fazer a transmissão do Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica no Brasil (com exceção das cerimônias de abertura e encerramento), de forma não exclusiva, pelo prazo máximo de 24 (vinte e quatro) horas após o evento. Qualquer transmissão relacionada a este evento, deve ser realizada de forma estritamente jornalística, sem criar ou ser apresentada como um programa focado no Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica. Nenhuma associação comercial / promocional será permitida na cobertura do Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica. Principalmente, a transmissão do Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica não poderá (i) ser patrocinado ou de qualquer for criar uma associação que crie a impressão de que o Non -RHBs e/ou qualquer entidade sem autorização e/ou seus produtos são conectados ou associados ao Revezamento da Tocha Olímpica, ao Jogos Olímpicos, ao COI e/ou ao Movimento Olímpico e (ii) implique, sugira ou represente os Non -RHBs como sendo detentores oficiais dos direitos de transmissão e/ou parceiros do Revezamento da Tocha olímpica, dos Jogos Olímpicos, do COI e/ou do Movimento Olímpico. Cerimônias de Abertura e Encerramento: A parte do revezamento que ocorrerá durante as cerimônias de abertura e encerramento dos Jogos faz parte dos direitos exclusivos concedidos aos RHBs e qualquer transmissão pelos Non-RHBs deve ser realizada em observância às Novas Leis de Acesso do COI. Terms of Use Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs): RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil, on a nonexclusive basis, in accordance with the terms of their respective media rights agreement with the IOC. Non-Rights Holding Broadcasters (Non-RHBs): Non-RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil (with the exclusion of the opening and closing ceremonies), on a non-exclusive basis, for a maximum of 24 hours after the event. Any such broadcast must be positioned as news only and not to create, or be positioned as, Olympic torch relay focused programming. No commercial/promotional association is permitted with the coverage of the Olympic torch relay. In particular, broadcast of the Olympic torch relay may not (i) be sponsored or otherwise be associated in any way to give the impression that Non-RHBs and/or any unauthorized entities and/or products are linked to or associated to the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement and (ii) imply, suggest or represent Non-RHBs as being official rights holding broadcasters and/or partners of the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement. Opening and Closing ceremonies: The part of the torch relay occurring during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games is part of the exclusive rights granted to RHBs and any broadcast by Non-RHBs must comply with the IOC News Access Rules.
