Marist Missions
Dear Rev. Tchingui,
On behalf of Father Kevin Stewart, S.M., who represented the Marist Missions, and all the Marist Fathers and Brothers, I would like to
thank you for the hospitality shown in welcoming us into the Our
Lady of Fatima Parish community on the weekend of July 30-31,
2016.
The Marists are grateful to you and your staff for having made this
mission appeal possible. This is especially true knowing how busy
Parishes are today and of the many demands placed on clergy,
religious and laity involved in keeping these Church communities
alive and growing. So, for all your efforts in setting the dates for the
appeal and making whatever arrangements were needed for the
appeal, we thank you.
Please extend to the other members of your staff and the Parish
community our appreciation for having had the opportunity to share
a little of the story of our Marist international missions. We are
grateful to everyone for your moral and financial support.

MESA DA PALAVRA
O “REINO”
A Palavra de Deus que hoje nos é servida convida-nos a
tomar consciência da radicalidade e da exigência da missão
que Deus nos confia. Não há meios-termos: Deus convidanos a um compromisso, corajoso e coerente, com a construção do “novo céu” e da “nova terra”. É essa a nossa
missão profética.
A primeira leitura apresenta-nos a figura do profeta Jeremias. O profeta recebe de Deus uma missão que lhe vai
trazer o ódio dos chefes e a desconfiança do Povo de Jerusalém: anunciar o fim do reino de Judá. Jeremias vai cumprir a missão que Deus lhe confiou, doa a quem doer. Ele
sabe que a missão profética não é um concurso de popularidade, mas um testemunhar, com verdade e coerência, os
projetos de Deus.
O Evangelho reflecte sobre a missão de Jesus e as suas
implicações. Define a missão de Jesus como um “lançar
fogo à terra”, a fim de que desapareçam o egoísmo, a
escravidão, o pecado e nasça o mundo novo – o “Reino”. A
proposta de Jesus trará, no entanto, divisão, pois é uma
proposta exigente e radical, que provocará a oposição de
muitos; mas Jesus aceita mesmo enfrentar a morte, para
que se realize o plano do Pai e o mundo novo se torne uma
realidade palpável.
A segunda leitura convida o cristão a correr de forma decidida ao encontro da vida plena – como os atletas que não
olham a esforços para chegar à meta e alcançar a vitória.
Cristo – que nunca cedeu ao mais fácil ou ao mais
agradável, mas enfrentou a morte para realizar o projeto do
Pai – deve ser o modelo que o cristão tem à frente e que
orienta a sua caminhada.

ANNUAL ARCHDIOCESAN SOCIAL JUSTICE DINNER
The Office for Catholic Social Justice Ministry (OCSJM) will present
awards for exceptional efforts in social justice ministry at its Annual
Dinner on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT, beginning with a reception at 5 pm. Kerry Weber will present
the keynote address. Kerry is a Mercy Associate and managing editor
of America Magazine. She is the author of “Keeping the Faith: Prayers for College Students” and “Mercy in the City: How to Feed the
Hungry Give Drink to the Thirsty, Visit the Imprisoned, and Keep your
Day Job”.
Being honored with awards at the dinner are: Fr. Stephen Sledesky,
the Collaborative Center for Justice, and St. Louis Church in West
Haven,

Beginning Experience weekend designed for those who wish to resolve the pain and grief of losing the marriage relationship and create
a more peace-filled future.
The Beginning Experience Weekend will be held September 30 October 2, 2016 at the Archdiocesan Conference Center at St.
Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield.
The weekend begins Friday evening, September 30 and continues
through Sunday afternoon, October 2, concluding with Mass. The
weekend fee is $235/person, which includes the program and materials, all meals on Saturday and Sunday and two nights’ stay, as well
