The young architect chose to live in a small studio in Londrina,
Brazil. The place would lodge an artist's painting atelier and was
under redecoration for over 10 years by the architect himself.
The present project came to life due to several problems found in
the building such as electricity mains and rewiring, wall cracks
and seepage. Within a month, all wall coatings were removed and
rebuilt whilst the architect decided to build a brick table and
couch. "As a furniture designer, I decided to follow an opposite
thread to what I usually do and create something permanent,
stable", says the architect. The couch stands from wall to wall
and has two black fabric mattresses. The cushions were made
with fabric cutouts with patterns designed by the stylist Adriana
Barra to Micasa, São Paulo's design temple. The kitchen was
compressed in a 1.40m wide by 3m long space. Modern and
avant-garde, the whole building cost approximately U$ 6,000.00.

The Santuario Dom Bosco (Sanctuary of Dom Bosco) in Brasília
honors the Italian saint who dreamed of a utopian city in 1883.
Brasília, the modern capital city of Brazil, is inspired by this
dream. From the outside, the Santuario Dom Bosco is a concrete
box with tall lancet window openings. The interior of the shrine
is a wondrous space, filled with heavenly blue light filtering
through windows that cover virtually the entire walls - 2200 sq.
m. in total. The windows of the Dom Bosco Shrine are made of
small squares of stained glass in 12 different shades of blue with
dots of white, designed by Naves and manufactured by Belgian
artist Hubert Van Doorne in São Paulo. Some of the windows
swivel open for ventilation. At night, a different spectacle of
light dominates the interior: a huge golden chandelier made of
7400 pieces of Murano-glass by architect Alvimar Moreira. A large
crucifix above the altar was carved from a single cedar tree by
Gotfredo Tralli (text from Sacred Destinations).

The architect’s primary task was to design an economic house for
a young couple, which should combine a living room, dining
room, kitchen and two rooms, one of which an adjacent office
and one bedroom for the couple. The context of the surroundings
is characterized by the narrow and winding road tracings, and the
small spots for construction, the presence of great tree masses
and many agricultural parcels. The land is of modest dimensions
(526 m2). When studying the program and possibilities of the
plot, it became clear that part of the plot had to be left free, to
be able to expand the house. So the house can grow in volume,
and the additions still fit in the interior dimensions of the lot.
The gradual form of the volume is the immediate expression of
the interior space organization of the house.

The design of the residence came from a basic premise: maximum
use of land for a huge program. Thus, the strategy was to locate
specific areas and vertical circulation In a way that the rest of
spaces enjoy extreme flexibility and a wide visual range, profiting
the structure and volume.
This transition provided by two
metal beams allows the floor of the garage to spread to the
maximum boundary of the site. Maximum occupancy without
affecting ventilation and lighting guaranteed exactly by that
range. A container rests on two 'bars' and stands out in access
and uses of their immediate surroundings. The prismatic volume
contains the program of the residence on two floors plus a roof
garden. The container openings are extremely flexible in the
front and back façades, while quite tenuous on the side walls.
This is a consequence of the immediate surroundings because the
common practice of the neighbours is constructing on the border
of their private grounds.

The Putti apartment, being a home of a young couple, should
have to offer expansion possibilities and hybrid spaces. This is the
case of the office that could be the future son´s bedroom, by
simply adding a cradle to the niche left in closets and also, in the
living room, puffs that offer extra seating for the couple guests.
As a consequence of the reduced space (60m2), the premise was
to define a functional layout and further control the sizes of
furniture in order not to invade minimal circulation areas. From
the dark brown wood panel until the beige floor, the project
sought to compose, within the same palette of colours,
integrated spaces and promote continuity between them. The
conviction that the intervention has to be an answer of the
client´s life style, which will change within time, allowed us to
work, in this case, only with available resources and strategically
empower them. PS: The intervention consisted in changing all
the original features and personalizing the spaces.

The Lucas Nogueira Garcez pavilion was originally named the
Palácio das Exposições and nicknamed 'Oca' (meaning hut, given
its round shape). It harbors both the Museu da Aeronáutica and
the Museu do Folclore. It is located in Parque do Ibirapuera, a
large green area for leisure, jogging and walking, which has a
convention centre as well. Its importance to São Paulo is
comparable to Central Park in New York City (text from

Livraria da Vila in Alameda Lorena is a unique bookstore,
designed by Isay Weinfeld. It is located in a refurbished house.
The hermetic volume, with a pivoting bookshelf façade, contains
an interesting space distributed over three levels. The inclusion
of the basement allowed for an entire floor exclusive for
children, in addition to a small auditorium to hold courses and
lectures. Voids connecting one floor to the next invite customers

This project used to be a factory complex, located in São Paulo.
Between 1977 and 1982, it was converted into a multi-purpose
building by Lina Bo Bardi, a collaboration between Italian
architects Lina Bo and P.M. Bardi. It now houses one of the units
of SESC, a private, non-profit organization which promotes
cultural and educational activities all over Brazil. The SESC
Pompéia complex became hugely successful, and now contains
theatres, gymnasiums, a swimming pool, snack bars, leisure
areas, restaurants, galleries, workshops and other kind of
services.

The Copan Building (Edifício Copan) is a 140-metre, 38-storey
residential building. Constructed between 1957 and 1966, the
concrete structure has an estimated 1160 apartments and 5000
residents. The ground floor is home to 70 businesses and
establishments including, but not limited to, a church, a travel
agency, a bookstore, and 4 restaurants. Due to the large number
of residents, the São Paulo City Hall gave the building its own ZIP

Hotel Unique is an architectural landmark first, a hip venue for
beautiful trendies second, while its role as a hotel comes in a
third. The greenish, copper-plated half sphere (hence the
nickname 'watermelon'), dotted with giant porthole windows is 25
metres high and stands alone in an otherwise low-rise area. With
residences to one side and services to the other, it is hard to
miss.

The original program anticipated the construction of a 3 building
complex determined to house the administrative complex of the
company. The built tower was implemented perpendicularly to
23 de Maio Ave with a perspective to the Ibirapuera Park. Its
majestic mass of apparent concrete and glass fits vigorously into
the landscape. Due to the lower levels program with a more
extended plan, there were located the sectors where there would
be more contact with the public. A spacious underground houses
the necessary parking lot.

The Eldorado Business Tower imposes its majestic architecture as
an urban landmark of the region. The gigantic tower totally
covered with special glasses- white at the closures and green at
the openings- it also distinguishes itself by the adoption of
innovative technological solutions which allow the reduction of
the operational costs and low environmental impact. The ground
level with a double high ceiling , elevated to 4m above the United
Nations Avenue level, provided the desirable distance from the
intense traffic of the area and a privileged view of the
surroundings. The building plan, almost square to serve the
occupational interests of large offices, has its perimeter softened
by discrete curves. The 141m tall tower has 32 stories. It was one
of the first buildings of the city designed with the concept of
sustainability and certified by LEED.

The resulting volumetry of the building is a consequence of a
desire: that its site plan provides an ample space in its main
access, trough a huge and unique reception plaza. In addition to
that, the building is stoned by its facades, where distinct
openings have different aesthetic finishing in order to provide a
more efficient building. In that matter openings oriented to the
sunshine and to the sunset (east and west facades), that always
suffers with sun light, were minimized; where the height is 1,40
meters - half of its floor. The openings oriented to north receives
direct sun light during all day, in a lower intensity, and for this
reason it was covered with brise-soleils that allows the facade to
be a curtain wall.

The São João National Theatre Archive is located in a small lane
behind the neoclassical building of the Teatro Nacional São João
on Praça da Batalha. It sits in a narrow site between old town
houses that form part of the UNESCO world heritage site. The
façade is composed of singular slabs of polished white concrete,
which sit at angles to define the storeys and articulate the
openings. The building acts as an archive of all the theatre's
props, costumes and sets.

The Museu de Arte de São Paul, or MASP, is an art museum
located on Paulista Avenue in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is
well-known for its concrete and glass structure, whose main body
is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 metres freestanding
space. It is considered one of the landmarks of Brazilian modern
architecture. From the site on which the building was raised, it is
possible to watch the downtown area and the Cantareira
Mountains. Joaquim Eugênio de Lima, who donated the plot of
land to the City Hall, tied the donation to a commitment that no
building should ever be constructed in that plot that would harm
the amplitude of the view. Therefore, the project demanded an
underground construction or, otherwise, a sustained one. The
architect Lina Bo Bardi and engineer José Carlos Figueiredo
