“The art form that I am speaking of is performance art, and although
this work is classified as dance, I am tempted to resituate the
discussion of this work into the world of performance art for one key
reason: the relationship between performers and audience.
Performance art demands this relationship—whether asking audiences
to feed caged performers as in Coco Fusco and Guillermo GómezPeña’s Two Undiscovered Amerindians Visit the West, or masturbating
underneath the floorboards and fantasizing about the audience in Vito
Acconci’s infamous Seedbed. These performances, much like Still
Standing You, achieve a visceral reaction from their audiences; the
experience of the work is embodied and often difficult—if not
impossible—to intellectualize” - Katie McMillan is a director, writer,
