• U-M returns a little more than 75 percent of
its scoring output from a year ago, including
its top four goal scorers, and currently holds a
four-match home winning streak after going
a combined 8-3-1 in 2013 home matches. The
four-match streak includes a 3-1 win over
Niagara on Nov. 15 in the first round of the
NCAA Tournament. Last fall, Chaka Daley
led the Wolverines to a six-win turnaround
and 11-10-1 overall record, a berth in the
Big Ten championship game and an NCAA
Tournament victory. The squad returns 2012
All-Big Ten first team midfielder Tyler Arnone,
All-Big Ten second team goalkeeper Adam
Grinwis, All-Big Ten Freshman honoree James
Murphy and 2011-12 leading goal scorer Fabio
Villas Boas Pereira.
• Michigan enters the opening match of the
season after compiling a 1-0-2 ledger in the
2013 exhibition season, having tied No. 10
Louisville by a 1-1 score line on Aug. 17 and
downing Cincinnati, 2-0, on Aug. 18. The
final exhibition resulted in a 0-0 draw against
DePaul on Saturday (Aug. 24). Junior transfer
Marcos Ugarte led the team’s offensive efforts
with two goals, as he scored off a free kick
against the Cardinals and also netted a score
against the Bearcats during the run of play in
the second half.
• Several Wolverines spent the summer months
training with multiple Major League Soccer
clubs. Arnone (Philadelphia Union, Sporting
KC), Pereira (Sporting KC), Ugarte (Houston
Dynamo), Grinwis (Columbus Crew) and
freshman Rylee Woods (Columbus Crew) had
training stints. Additionally, Lars Eckenrode
appeared in several reserve league matches for
D.C. United.

Michigan career record books in assists, shots
attempted and games played. Most notably
is the program assist record, as he holds 18,
which is 10 helpers behind program leader
Adam Bruh (2002-05), who paces the program

leading the Wolverines to an 11-10-1 record in his first season in Ann Arbor, a six win turnaround from the previous season.
In his first season as the head man for the Maize & Blue, Daley guided the Wolverines to a berth in the Big Ten Championship game, defeated Niagara 3-1 in an NCAA
Tournament home match, and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. The Wolverines finished No. 21 in the
NCAA RPI on the heels of playing the fourth toughest schedule in the nation. U-M defeatead the eventual NCAA Champion Indiana by a 2-1 count on Oct. 19 in its
signature win of the season.
Daley’s guidance resulted in the emergence of First Team All-Big Ten selection Tyler Arnone, Second Team All-Big Ten honoree Adam Grinwis, and Big Ten AllFreshman squad member James Murphy.
Prior to arriving in Ann Arbor, Daley spent the previous 12 seasons as head coach of the Providence College Friars.
In 2011, Daley guided Providence to an 11-8-1 record and an NCAA at-large bid, as the Friars defeated Dartmouth in the opening round of the 2011 tournament. In
the past seven seasons, he guided the Friars to a 72-47-21 mark, and led his alma mater to seven consecutive winning seasons and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Friars hosted NCAA Tournament match-ups during the 2010 and 2011 campaigns.
The 2010 Friars squad made a run during the latter half of the season, reeling off seven consecutive wins and going unbeaten in 10 matches (8-0-2) for the first time
since 1984. The Friars earned a berth in the Big East Tournament and notched road victories at Villanova and at No. 1-seed Georgetown to advance to the semifinals. In
the semis, the Friars defeated Cincinnati and earned a spot in the championship match for the second time in school history where they lost in penalties to No. 1 seed
Louisville.

(NY Red Bull, 2012)
