Week 2, Term 3 – Thursday 31 July 2014
Currently there are two safety issues that are causing angst and concern amongst the
community. Firstly there are some drivers who do not adhere to road rules and, in particular, do not stop at pedestrian crossings and park illegally. Over the last month, we have
been in discussions with ACT Roads Management and Safety who are now monitoring
the traffic and motorist’s behaviour. Last week, Traffic Infringement Officers attended
and took action against offenders. They were in attendance again this morning. Both ACT
Roads Management and Safety, staff and a number of parents have been in contact with
Act Policing Traffic Operations.
The other issue is the building at the Canberra Hospital and the suggested impact that
this is currently having on the pedestrian crossings on Gilmore Crescent. We are focused
on being good communicators and committed to ensuring that our community have our
common understandings about situations. We, therefore, have organised an information
session next Wednesday, 6th August at 3.00pm in the school library. In attendance will be
Brett Price (Hindmarsh Project Manager), Brendan Byatt (Project Manager, Point Project
Management), Elizabeth Porritt (Healthscope) and Robyn Hawkins (Roads ACT, Traffic Investigations) to discuss the works. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further information, ([email protected])
Best wishes

Musica Viva Performance
Musica Viva has been inspiring students at Garran Primary School for over twenty years. More than thirty
groups from all genres of music tour to over 1000 schools each year. This year there will be a performance by
Makukuhan.
Makukuhan is a mini gamelan orchestra which bring that distinctive and stirring Indonesian sound to life.
Using traditional masked dance and instruments like the kendang, angklung and rebana, “Great Gamalan” is
the perfect window into thye exotic music of our northern neighbours. Three outstanding Indonesian
musicians explore a number of styles from Bali and Java, with a focus on melodic percussion and rhythm. This
performance is an a wonderful addition to the school’s music program.
Please complete the permission note attached to the email and send it with payment to the front office
before the performance date of Monday 18th August 2014.
