2010 The year 2010 was, with no doubt a successful one for Habitat for Humanity Portugal. Answering to several challenges with the mission spirit that guides us, we have consolidated our programme and improved some aspects of our organization. We have strengthened our relation with the community by establishing new partnerships with companies and other organizations. These new partnerships allowed us to start building in a new city such as Amarante. But, the most important thing is that we were able to sow new seeds to serve even more families in the future. We share with you, with gratitude, the work developed in 2010. Supported families Serving families is the reason why Habitat exists; it is for them we work every day with the objective of improving their living conditions. In 2010, Habitat Portugal served two more families providing them with a decent place to live. We have partnered with the Costa family in Bustelo, Amarante and the Cerqueira family in Vilarinho, Vila Verde to make their dream become a reality. We also started the construction of the house for the Gonçalves family in Gomide, Vila Verde. This year Habitat Portugal work evolved around 600 volunteers. A big share of these volunteers came through the Global Village programme from several countries around the globe. We have also increased the number of local volunteers, which for the first time outnumbered the international ones. The local volunteers involved 5 schools and 5 companies among other volunteers that help us at an individual level. The participation of local companies through our team building programme is increasing a lot reaching this year 135 volunteers. We still have the need for more volunteers, both local and international so that we can work on both fronts at the same time, Braga and Amarante. 135 Local 139 54 International Companies Schools 253 International 0 100 local volunteers 200 300 400 Habitat for Humanity® Portugal Av. da Liberdade, 505, 2º, 4710-251 Braga, Portugal Tel: 253 204 280 E-mail: [email protected] | www.assoc-habitat.pt Partnerships Throughout the years Habitat Portugal has been establishing partnerships with companies and official entities which allowed us to grow and serve more families. In 2010 several institutions worked and supported our project. From volunteer labour to financial and material donations they contributed to our fight against substandard housing. We also had the support from Habitat Affiliates and individual donors to our projects List of partners in 2010 Companies 3 SSS A. The funds raised by Habitat Portugal are directly used in the building activities, therefore the more funds we raise the more families we can serve and provide them with a better house. Our biggest source of funds is the Global Village programme, an international volunteering programme of Habitat for Humanity International. The international volunteers which participate in this programme not only give their time and effort but also support the project with funds through an individual donation. In 2010 we had an increase in local fundraising but the material donations are still low, but they are essential to our activity. When the work emerges and the Job is being done with so few resources and in the middle of so many uncertainties we have to recognize that Christ is in the centre of this work. He is the one who inspire, to Him we thank. Finally a renewed recognition to all that have been supporting us and to their continuous support and dedication. We also thank to those professionals that dedicate part of their lives with mission spirit. Special thanks to the Construction Committee and to all our international volunteers and supporters, without them it would not be possible for us to keep the work.
